Fantastic location. Spacious rooms (had a triple - room #115) On major lines of public transport. Very close to restaurants and shopping. Heating worked very well. Very quiet, clean and great internet connection in room. Requested a room that was not in the basement area, based on other reviews, and hotel was more than happy to honor our petition.

Only Location I do not have enough time to express how bad this hotel is. 1. Upon arrival we were given a room number that was 002. They did not tell us which direction the room was and when I asked one fo the staff,he grunted and stated "to the basement". This ofcourse rang alarm bells as we both said BASEMENT? We went down some dirty steps to our room 002, which smelt of damp. We immediatly went to the front desk and requested another room, which we were told would be looked into in the morning. We turned on the air conditioning which sounded like a steam train the whole night and to make matters worse, it sounded like the grand station above our heads the WHOLE NIGHT LONG. We did not sleep a wink. In the morning we again requested another room, which we were told was being looked into, and the person on the phone added " oh we never had complaints about this room" which is not something you want to hear. After I rang the front desk again, and demand another room or FULL REFUND, they called back 5 minutes later with another room. Nobody should be put in the BASEMENT! this is not acceptable. iT'S A HOTEL. NOT A HOSTEL!!! Yes we did get a better room ,however we only received a 20.00 EURO refund which is peanuts for how hard we had to fight for a room that we paid good money for. The only good thing about this hotel was the location. We strongly suggest that you think twice about booking this hotel. Lastly we believe we were charged TWICE for the room!!

The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly and it wasn't that far from the main road---easily walkable to tram/bus stations. The walk to the Anne Franke house was a little lengthy, but it was a gorgeous walk along the canal. Somewhat steep stairs, but I hear that's common for Amsterdam and there is an elevator (slow) available. I wouldn't necessarily call it a complaint, but their breakfast buffet (offered for 7.50 euros) was simply "ok." Cold lunch meats, rolls, lukewarm eggs/bacon, yogurt and juice/coffee/tea. Certainly a fine spread, but seemed a bit pricey for what you got.

Location, quiet, able to open window in our room, good fresh air, hot water, free internet, breakfast ,helpful staff Would have liked to have a bar fridge or small fridge in the room, better towels, ours were old and thin, the bar of soap was very tiny and cheap quality

The only thing I liked about this hotel was the location. It was on a very quiet street but only a few minutes walk from Leidseplein near shops, trams and restaurants. However service was dreadful, we had no power in our room and it took three and a half hours to have it restored, and then only after a very loud demand for a new room.On the first night I asked for an extra pillow ,we stayed five nights and I never received my pillow.I Also had to provide my own milk for my coffee,no milk ever left in room.

This hotel is a great value. One can't beat the great location coupled with great price and well kept place. The rooms are small and there is a steep staircase to climb. However, an elevator was added (recently). Breakfast is austere and offer minimal selection but probably worth it's 7.5 euro cost (an advance order at the front desk). Overall, I had a good stay and my 3rd floor room above the crowd was everything one could ask for that cost. As a business traveler I enjoyed the free high speed internet that actually worked! Also the small downstairs bar is functioning if one needs a last one... Friendly and efficient staff is the bonus. Poor room to room isolation

The best part was leaving and going to a better hotel. Have stayed at this hotel a number of times but never again. I was given a basement room with windows on the street right next to front door. When checking in I asked for a different room but was told the hotel was fully booked. I had a shower at 3pm and the drain in shower/toilet was blocked and when staff saw the basement flooding they told me they need to change my room to one of the rooms on the 2nd floor despite telling me earlier there was no free rooms. This was after I had spent 2 hours setting up the room for my girlfriends birthday(flowers petals candles balloons) so it would have taken more than 2 hours to move everything to another room. This was as I was leaving to pick her up from central station so changing rooms at this point in time was not an option. The room was extremely hot(in October not summer) so much so that we could not breathe unless the windows were open at all times and the noise kept us awake until 4am with people smoking and talking directly outside the window and we were waken again at 7am by the street cleaners. The noise was so strong after 7 going back to sleep was impossible and during the day you can not even hear the tv over the sound from the street. Wifi signal was so weak in basement the connection dropped out every 2 mins. The mattress was a piece of foam not a mattress and I woke with a painful back both mornings. And despite having the do no disturb sign on door a member of staff came into the room at 7am and turned light on when we were trying to sleep.

Good location close to the main attractions. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. We were extremely disappointed, as we had a mouse in our room. It sniffed through our bags and contaminated my clothes and an air mattress that we were carrying. In addition, on my second day in Amsterdam, I developed rashes and an allergy, possibly due to contact with fecal material from the mouse that contaminated my clothes. When we asked the hotel to bring a doctor, they recommended me to go to the nearest pharmacy and asked me to leave my email for further contact. A day after checkout, they did contact me offering a refund of 25% of my stay (I.E. 50 euros from the total of 200 euros we paid for the 2 nights), which even the most non-hygienic traveler would find insulting. As of today (10 Feb 2012), we paid 150 euros to had a mouse in our room and had our clothes and belongings contaminated by the faeces. Do not stay at this hotel!

The breakfast was worth the additional 7 Euros per person compared to the local cafe prices. Reception staff are very welcoming. I would stay here again. The rooms and bathrooms are small compared to the normal standard of Best Western Hotels, not quite up to the normal 4 star standard.

Great location, approx 5 mins to leidesplein, which is a great area for going out. Less than 10 mins walk to the main museams. Really clean room, great shower! Would stay again at the if I were travelling with a few friends for a going out weekend. The colour scheme in the hotel is fairly depressing. Although our room was spotlessly clean, it was functional otherwise. Wouldn't recommend it for a romantic getaway or anything!

Wifi free and safe in room. You could alter temprature in room. Reception not very friendly and not informative, only noticed a map was available on last day which would have been helpful. Tea and coffee facility poor, no milk! Just creamer, Quite a distance from amsterdam central would have been helpful before booking what the walking distance was, as would not have chosen this hotel. Good selection for breakfast however scrambled egg dry and crusty and bacon very fatty and chewy.

The Best Western Leidse Square is very well located for the activities on Leidesplein. It's also close to the museums. It's very clean and the staff were helpful. Room was a little small for 3 people.

As a solo traveller, I found the hotel accommodating, with comfort and ideal location. Friendly staff, and a cosy little bar. Furthermore, the room was well heated, and the coffee/tea making facility in the room was most welcomed. The elevator was a little slow, but, nothing to complain about.

To tell you the truth didnt know what to expect from this hotel and was a bit worried that we`ll end up in a horrible room over the Holidays. When we arrived my mouth dropped. This was the best room I`ve ever been to. So clean and just loved the big beds. The room was warm with big windows and felt like home. Bathroom was nice and clean. 10-15 mins walk from centraal train station. Perfect location. Quiet still close to Museums and shopping streets. Just loved this plac. Propably we got the best room in the whole hotel, but would go back anytime. Best Christmas ever!!!! The Internet was down after the first day and only got it working before we left. Dont blame the hotel because it was christmas, but still. Gotta have internet! :)

location was brilliant found small spatters of blood on the cover of the duvet, asked them to change the duvet, when i came back the bed had been made but the sheets were not changed and the blood was still there. No offer of an upgrade or discount or even a free bottle of water was made for this which was very disapponting as staff were very nice!!!
