The Grand Amsterdam building has a very rich history. It has been a convent in the 15th century, a Royal Inn during the 16th century and the headquarters for the Dutch Admiralty in the 17th century (the Golden Age of the Netherlands). In 1966 it was the setting for the wedding of Her Majesty the Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. The Grand has certainly left its mark on the history of Amsterdam.

The wine list consists of over 400 wines, acknowledged with the ‘Award of Excellence’, to complete your gastronomic experience in The Grand Restaurant. Our Chef-Sommelier Hans Tuin is happy to assist with your choice of wine.
Our personal and informal service team, lead by Maitre d'Hotel Jos van Hunen, will provide a relaxed and luxurious dinner or lunch.
The lounge bar, connected to the hotel lobby, is open between 09:00 and 01:00. Here you can enjoy afternoon tea, a drink after a busy day or a snack all day long.
The guest rooms have their own unique style, dictated in part by the original layout of the building that has been respected wherever possible. High ceilings and huge windows are a feature of almost all the rooms giving an additional sense of light and space to what are already some of the largest hotel rooms in Amsterdam. Decorated in a chic Anglo-French style in colours of salmon or blue with bold stripes or floral prints, each guest room has beautiful heavy drapery with custom made light wood inlaid furniture.
3 of the main presidential suites, which are named after 3 former mayors of Amsterdam, the Van Thijn, Polak and Samkalden suites, were inaugurated by their namesakes on 20 May 1992. There are also 3 2-bedroom royal suites featuring stunning curved windows overlooking the encircling canals. Named in honour of 3 famous former guests - William V, Maria de Medici and William of Orange - all offer a separate dressing area, marble bathrooms and a dining area seating from 4 to 6 people.
The Grand Amsterdam is located in the heart of Amsterdam’s historic, shopping and financial district. The hotel is just one block from Dam Square where the Royal Palace stands, the Euronext and the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. The hotel is just 20 minutes by taxi from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and 5 minutes from the Central Station.

It's right in the city center. Hotel has bikes to rent for customers and cycling is the best option for sight seeing

Not really, however the taxi driver (from the airport) dropped us off at the other Sofitel which led to an inconvenience. Your receptioniste was very hospitable.
