The simple, elegant guest rooms and the modern lobby of this hotel provide a homely ambience for your stay in the Dutch countryside. The famous Dutch polder of Beemster is listed as world heritage by UNESCO and is a very popular environment for hiking and cycling.

From this idyllic location you can easily visit traditional fishing villages, such as Volendam and Marken. Alternatively, why not unwind with some water sports on the lake of IJsselmeer. Only a 30-minute drive will bring you to the bustling capital of Amsterdam.

We welcome our guest for breakfast in the breakfast room or on our terrace (weather permitting).
For lunch, tea and coffee "The Serre" is a bright and sunny place to spend the afternoon. Our restaurant offers a la carte choices as well as daily specials.

All food and beverage locations have been renovated spring 2008, including our restaurant outlets, the bar, TV lounge and billiard room.

Upon request rooms with fabulous and infinite views over the Ijsselmeer (former Zuiderzee) are available. Recently the older rooms have been renovated up to modern standards.

Area information

Hem Hotel 't Tolhuus is located at the heart of the UNESCO protected World heritage site "The Beemster". The hotel, uniquely located at het Ijsselmeer dyke, can be reached within 30 minutes from Amsterdam centre.

- Volendam and Marken (15 minutes). Two unique fishing villages famous for their traditional outfits and their daily fished fresh eel and grey shrimp.

- Edam (9 minutes) cheese market. The BeemsterKaas is a product of superior quality produced and sold in the same way as decades ago.

- The Zaanse Schans (26 minutes). A delightful old hamlet on the banks of the river Zaan with characteristic green wooden houses, charming stylised gardens, small hump-backed bridges, tradesmen's workshops, historic windmills and engaging little shops.

The hotel was quaintly situated, clean with friendly and helpful staff. We were pleasantly surprised to find such a lovely place to stay.

Our bathroom had no place to put anything down and no towel bars. Our room had no telephone. The lobby was shabby looking.

The place is very beautifull. Not so far from the Amsterdam (we were with the car), nearest small city was EDAM, there we were leaving the car for free and take the bus get to Amsterdam center. Value for money is very good, if you are with the car and hotel you need is only for night sleeping and rest.

Breakfast is not so rich. Hotel is not new, rooms small, is no hairdryer, there was not enough soap for bathing. Jaccuzzi works very loud, the water offloud mechanizm was broken. In the room you can hear your neigbour:)

The price and location! It is a no frills hotel but that was what I wanted since I just wanted a place to sleep (actively sightseeing all the time so why pay a lot of a hotel?). Very close to Volendam and Edam and an easy bus ride into Amsterdam. Warder is very small but extremely safe and quiet. There is a playground/pool/boating place within walking distance too

Pain peeling in bathroom, an outlet in beat up shape but these were merely cosmetic and for the price, did not bother me! Did send the hotel an email asking about the bus process for getting to Amsterdam and never received a reply (they did answer at the desk)

Small space for the family room (4 persons) we stayed and poor conditions: On first arrival room door handle fell and only 2 sets of quilt/blankets were available. Bedside lamps too dim to read and the switch of one of them not working, bedside radio not working, poor air con, no curtain for the roof window in the loft area where 2 beds are placed!

Nice, quiet location. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Smoking in the hotel is not allowed, but we had a room with balcony.

We booked a room with jacuzzi, but it turned out to be unavailable.

This is a really pretty area to visit. If you have a car you can visit many cute villages in the area. A car is really a must here! The hotel staff were extremely friendly. We enjoyed our stay here very much and wouldn't hesitate to come back...actually we hope we will! Thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcome.

It would be great if the hotel would have an emergency hair dryer.
