I travel extensively and Kasteel Vaeshartelt was one of the finest European experiences I have ever had. A beautiful historic country estate with formal gardens and arboretum; the estate house is seamlessly integrated with the adjoining accommodations. The English-speaking staff was superb, the breakfast expansive, and the sitting rooms and outdoor patios for meals, drinks, and socialization artfully decorated. Frankly I felt as though I was part of the elite "1 percent" staying here, but at "99 percent" prices--actually less than a room in downtown Maastricht. About 8 km from Maastricht, a car would be useful--though bikes (available from the front desk) are available. Highly recommended for romantics and nature lovers!

The staff was very friendly. Because we had no idea about the time, we were too late for check-out. This was no problem at all!!! The prices for drinks in the bar were reasonable. There were terrasses everywere outside and we could enjoy the lovely garden. We really enjoined everything and are planning to come back in july but for a longer stay!!

The castle was located in a beautiful spot, with opportunities for walking in the adjacent park. Room was smallish but comfortable. It was outside Maastricht, but there is a bus service available (one bus every hour, check timetable). We took the bus one way and walked the other.

It provided the perfect balance between business meetings and the countryside relaxing environment. The huge amount of green and the feeling of being so close to nature combined with our daily trips for working purposes were the perfect match.

The grounds were beautiful. Surprised that for a 4-day visit, the sheets were never changed. I'm a tree hugger, but hotel sheets lose their crispness after a couple of days.

The grounds were very peaceful and the castle was beautiful. We walked the grounds and enjoyed seeing the original photo's of the castle at various area's along the journey. I shared a bed with my 10 year old who is difficult to sleep with, but I never felt her once given the size of the bed. It was also extremely comfortable. It's about a 5 min. Drive to the city center. We look forward to staying here again in the future.

Excellent staff, location. The hotel itself is not in the castle but in building behind the castle a bit of a pity.

Very nice location. Easy to find with gps (but without...certainly not so easy). Calm and still close to the city of Maastricht and not too far from highway and airport. Free internet. Plenty parking space not far from the entrance. Bed is ok, but a bit small. Basic facilities (no minibar in the room, no water offered, no facilities to make tea or coffee, tiny bathroom with shower). The gravel (difficult for pulling your suitcase) is only in the interior courtyard, maybe just 20 m to the entrance, so not really a problem. I will certainly come back to try this hotel for a city trip with my family to Maastricht. For 82 € (without breakfast) good value for money. If you offer it as a castle and in your brochure as a hotel "with love" a small bottle of water in the room (and maybe some nice toiletries) would be a finishing touch.

It was easy to get to via the bus, and really attractive. The staff were incredibly friendly! Breakfast was nice and our room very clean. I wish that use of the hotel bikes was gratis. For 165/night, it should be!

The hotel is in a nice country setting. The hotel appears to host lots of business conferences which means, depending on the time of day, having to walk through large groups of people attending a conference to get to and from your room. Because of this not most relaxing of places to stay.

It has beautiful gardens, it is eco-friendly and it is located between Maastricht and Valkenburg. This location is beter in the summer, good for hiking and walking, but you can do the same by taking the train from Maastricht and stopping at any station between both cities. I was very dissapointed with the modern-cheap decoration of the rooms which does not match at all with a castle/palace of this kind. This hotel will improve a lot with a decoration that gives more feeling to be in a palace/castle.

Chose the hotel only because of free parking and just as a staging post, rode from Belgium to Germany. By itself, the hotel is great, is perfect! But here it is located so that only a taxi to get to the city.

Wonderful hotel, great design, modern and at the same time an old castle. A bit expensive for a solo traveller. The hotel certainly lacks sauna or spa.

Though difficult to find in the dark, not using gps and getting lost several times, it was a truly wonderful place. We were well received with a friendly welcome and wereimpressed by the friendliness and courteous responses at all times. Everything at Vaeshartelt spoke of good care and a search for perfection. So we took the initiative to edit and recommend corrections to the english version of the one page description and history of Vaeshartelt that had been given to us at reception. Unfortunately it contained a number of punctuation errors and embarrassing typos. We were not certain that our intervention would be appreciated and we therefore approached reception with some trepidation with our edited version. To our delight our initiative was gratefully received. I trust that this edit of ours will add to the high quality of which Vaeshartelt speaks.

Great bed - big and very comfortable. Loved the castle - quirky and interesting. Good breakfasts. Enjoyed the bar - good decor and nice atmosphere. Bar staff very friendly. I would have liked tea and coffee facilities in the room especially as there is no room service.
