wonderful staff location breakfast area view
Check in very slow with insufficient staff. Room small and noisy. Only view was of other tourist facilities in front of the hotel. Cannot see the fiord. Food abysmal, particularly the breakfast buffet.
Great location Comfortable
The dinner buffet is ok, but overpriced for what you get. I'm not sure there are many options in the town however.
The location is spectacular, and the facilities are excellent. Don't miss the look-out deck (above reception).
Great room, great location. Front desk was super helpful letting us know what activities were available around the area. Breakfast was quite good and well-stocked.
Room could have used a little more cleaning attention: noticed right away some powdery substance on a chair, and found an old sock under the dresser. Also, Room 462 didn't get the wi-fi which was unfortunate.
The hotel is gorgeous and the food was amazing. It's the most expensive hotel in flam, but for good reason. It was magical, the location could not be more perfect. I can't wait to return.
Location, location, location! Lovely lounge, breakfast and tea and coffee making facilities! Very comfy bed too!
Thin walls, could hear EVERYTHING!
Booked 3 rooms but when we got to hotel there was only one room booked under my name.
That I got there at 1.30 and could not book in until 4 pm - on the dort - ridiculous!
The "new part" we stayed in was very simple. Nice central gathering area if you are going to be there for several days and are with friends/family. Excellent location near train/cruise ship, and easy access to roads.
VERY expensive for a simple hotel room. Perhaps the historic side feels more special, but the new side seems very overpriced at $350-$475 a night. Wifi did not work well in our corner room. View was of the hill sloping away from the hotel. Very difficult to get a room here, must book well in advance and just be happy you can say you stayed in the Historic Fretheim Hotel.
Advertised sauna has been "broken" for a year.
great views, friendly and comfy hotel
The Hotel is well located The old part of the hotel is much nicer with alot more character. It should be used more and not isolated as much from the newer part.
We booked 4 nights and had made 4 separate bookings due to lack of availability. I had advised the hotel of this in advance but they still were not aware of it on arrival and had to rejig so we did not have to move room each night. Every morning of the 4 our room key ceased working and each afternoon when locked out we had to get a new room key which was frustrating. For the 4th and final night, we had booked a twin room as that was the only room available for that date when we booked. It was a slightly lower rate than the double room we had booked for the first 3 nights. However on the final day they told us we could remain in the double that night, but there would be an additional charge. We were surprised given our overall custom and the size of the bill we were going to pay at the end of the stay. When we said we would not pay the premium they moved us to the twin room that evening which I thought was mean.
Old fashioned, comfortable, clean, very quiet in the Suite. Food was good. Pleasant atmosphere.
Internet did not work in the room. It was not working in our suite, but worked outside the suite. Parking is outdoor, not really a parking.
Location, breakfast, wifi
We were notified at the last minute that they overbooked and downgraded us. You would think they would hold open a room as an accommodation so when we got off the boat from Bergen we would be able to check in. Nope. You would think we could get a later check out as an accommodation. Nope.
nice view and very clean area , polite and kind staff. great breakfast, everything ok .
Comfortable beds View of Fjord
We stayed in " superior room" which was expensive even by Norwegian standards.Went from here to Augustin hotel in Bergen which was considerably cheaper yet much more customer friendly. Lack of attention to detail- meagre toiletries in small bathroom ( with door which didn't close because wood was swollen, despite warnings that it must be closed when showering to avoid setting off fire alarm!! ) Kettle in room but again meagre tea/coffee supplies,no milk or creamer,no spoon. Check out 11 am but check in not until 4 pm - way too late.Luggage stored when we arrived early but no attempt made to speed up availability of room. Very little info in room. Breakfast buffet/cafeteria style - selection adequate but "hot " food was lukewarm at best. We had stayed at Fretheim in the past but ambiance and customer care much reduced from previous stays.
very convenient location but still not right beside all the tourist activity. Hotel was fine, no problems, quiet at night, friendly staff.
The location and interior decoration at the lobby were great, same for the garden.
It was inconvenient that we couldn't refill our own bottles with water for free. Not very considerate for a hotel in an area with hiking trails!
Kitchen could improve
nice location. nice fjord view from the balcony (we stayed at the 3rd floor). The hotel was not very nice but it was very nice to stay at Flam, then no choice...
Minimum facilities. The room was small. Food was ridiculously priced.
Location is good. Seating area at ground floor lounge is lovely & service was quick! The brightness & decor at restaurant is good. Clever & tasteful integration of new and traditional architecture.
Expensive for what you get! Breakfast was a big disappointment at this hotel which boasts of tradition and luxury..!!?( Our previous breakfast was at Finse 1222 which offered a SUPERB breakfast! Fretheim is in the same Historic Hotels book... but offer a very different level of ambience and food unfortunately.. ) We had booked 2 luxury rooms with fjord view, but there was nothing luxurious about the view on 3rd (top) floor - or indeed the size, especially the bathroom which is TINY and didn't even have towl rail or toilet roll holder, let alone space for any of your own toiletries... and the complimentary stuff on offer is nothing I would call luxurious...) The dinner options were very limited so we opted to eat out. (Would recommend the Brewery restaurant!!). No entrance to hotel from car park so you have to walk around hotel on gravel pathway with your luggage... Don't be fooled by the hype of this hotel... they offer a guided tour in the brochure... Made us giggle...
The recepcionist who checked us in was excellent
