A wonderful hotel belonging to the Historical Hotels association - rooms are modern decorated in Norwegian style whilst the hotel itself is full of charm with its magnificent hallways, staircase and dining room . The dining room is magnificent with it's open fire, large lounge chairs (fit for kings and queens) and elegant antique furniture- you can sit at your leisure here and drink self service coffee, enjoy a drink from the Whisky bar, read, or enjoy a wonderful home cooked meal from the small but appetising menu. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Good ambience and beautifully restored building. Room spacious (there were four of us). Good value for money (taking into account that Norway is very expensive). Very attentive, courteous staff. Lovely lounge with access to free tea and coffee all day. Excellent location (we chose it because of its proximity to train station as we were taking the train to Oslo afterwards). Breakfast buffet was ample, with only one exception (see below). Super range of muesli with different seeds, etc. Great bread! Shower head definitely needs to be replaced (Room 508). Kept jumping off the wall with pressure from water. Didn't have plain yogurt at breakfast. It wasn't always easy to find hot water to make tea. They are big coffee drinkers, so coffee was always readily available, both at breakfast and in the lounge, but on more than one occasion I couldn't find hot water.

Beautiful old hotel with modern conveniences located across the street from the train station. This location was perfect after the long "Norway in a Nutshell" journey. The wharf and shopping area are within an easy walk. The taxi stand is located directly outside making it easy to get to the airport the next morning. The buffet breakfast starts early and was very good. We enjoyed our stay.

Great location across the road from the central station and very close to the old part of town. The room was of a very high order and the hotel has some interesting historical features.

We booked 2 nights at the GT because of its proximity to the railway station. This fitted our travel plans for one of the "Norway in a Nutshell" tours. What we didn't expect was a truly grand hotel with warm architecture, an interesting history and very helpful staff. And that's what we got!

The ambience in this grand old hotel is very special. It is rare these dyas to find a nearly 100-year old hotel so well preserved. The Whisky Bar with its 508 varieties of single malts is worth the visit alone! A wonderful stay.

The receptionist was incredibly helpful, You could not change money into Norwegian Krone. The price of everything in Norway is eye watering. A burger and beer in the hotel is £30 and the taxi meter rates start at £8-12 depending on time of day!

Excellent location right next to the train station and close to the city centre. There is an old charm and cosy feel to this hotel and the room was lovely. One reason why we chose this hotel was for the free bike hire, but upon arrival, there is only actually one bike available, which was disappointing. Tea/Coffee making facilities were in the bar and often ran out of hot water/milk and staff appeared to be a little impatient when asking if this can be topped up.
