I chose this hotel because it is right next to the train station and because it has lots of character. The clerk upgraded me to a larger room. Buffet breakfast was fine. Hotel could use a makeover if it can be done without loosing the character of this wonderful old establishment.

I especially liked the fact that it was an older, traditional hotel not lacking in modern conveniences. The free tea and coffee around the clock was an added bonus, especially considering the high prices in Norway. What really surprised me was the fact that there was only a very small roll of toilet paper in the bathroom that was nearly used up with no replacement roll in sight,However, there was enough kleenex available, so the situation wasn't critical, but one would still expect better of a classy place like the Grand Terminus.

It's a great hotel and fantastic value for money - I guess you could say that parts could do with a bit of a re-furb - but to me, that's part of it's charm - with a sort of faded baronial thing going on. Particularly loved the breakfast which is amazing - I've never seen so much choice. (For some reason though, the cooked section was pretty cold - or are cold scrambled eggs a Norwegian thing??) The Whisky Bar is a wonderful place to relax or get on with some work - plug sockets behind voluminous sofas, with free tea and coffee on offer there all day. There was a free concert there on the Friday night that I was there & the band was pretty good. They had finished by about 11.00 though so no problem with noise. I had really noisy neighbours downstairs but fortunately the rooms/ceilings are solid enough that even their group singing (!) didn't keep me awake. I would definitely stay here again and strongly recommend it, although I've read on some of the other reviews that some rooms are definitely better than others, so it might be an idea to check first. All in all a great stay though. Cold scrambled eggs !!

The ambience in this grand old hotel is very special. It is rare these dyas to find a nearly 100-year old hotel so well preserved. The Whisky Bar with its 508 varieties of single malts is worth the visit alone! A wonderful stay.

A wonderful hotel belonging to the Historical Hotels association - rooms are modern decorated in Norwegian style whilst the hotel itself is full of charm with its magnificent hallways, staircase and dining room . The dining room is magnificent with it's open fire, large lounge chairs (fit for kings and queens) and elegant antique furniture- you can sit at your leisure here and drink self service coffee, enjoy a drink from the Whisky bar, read, or enjoy a wonderful home cooked meal from the small but appetising menu. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Good ambience and beautifully restored building. Room spacious (there were four of us). Good value for money (taking into account that Norway is very expensive). Very attentive, courteous staff. Lovely lounge with access to free tea and coffee all day. Excellent location (we chose it because of its proximity to train station as we were taking the train to Oslo afterwards). Breakfast buffet was ample, with only one exception (see below). Super range of muesli with different seeds, etc. Great bread! Shower head definitely needs to be replaced (Room 508). Kept jumping off the wall with pressure from water. Didn't have plain yogurt at breakfast. It wasn't always easy to find hot water to make tea. They are big coffee drinkers, so coffee was always readily available, both at breakfast and in the lounge, but on more than one occasion I couldn't find hot water.

We arrived late but received a friendly welcome and a large clean and comfortable room. Bar was excellent and breakfast was good, realxed about staying later than 10am when breakfast finished. Hotel happy to store cases and arrange dry cleaning even though we were staying only one night and returning to pick up cases. Wilingness to suggest things to see in Bergen and point out routes etc Decor is charming if slightly quirky bit I suspect not out of character with rest of Norway. An enjoyable overnight.

Perfect location for anything in Bergen to do with the train - it is directly across the street from the terminal. Breakfast was the best we had in all of Norway. Nice staff.

Proximity to the train station, very friendly helpful staff, old fashioned style and design. Our first night we stayed in a large nice room on the top floor, after our cruise we had a beautiful room on the 5th floor. In spite of being a large hotel, being there felt somehow homely.

The location and comfortable and quiet room were great, especially after a night in a tiny room at the Sandviken, also outside the charming center of Bergen. Breakfast was also excellent. This was a relatively expensive choice for us - $350ish - but about average for expensive Norway. Was super quiet considering its location just next door to the train statin - couldn't have been more convenient. Cost, but Norway is super expensive everywhere.

The Hotel has a very nice whisky bar. The breakfast room is in grand European style. You can feel the history of this hotel and its connection to the railroad (the train station is just across the road). Very good for a relaxing weekend break.

Room was very nice, great bathroom. Very comfortable, and we enjoyed the large breakfast buffet. Men's sauna wasn't working . Bathroom needed a lip on the floor to keep water from going all over.

Fine traditional hotel in a central location just a short walk from the train station and airport bus stop, and 10 minutes stroll from the city centre. Comfortable well kept room and the staff were helpful and pleasant. Help-yourself tea, coffee and fresh fruit available continuously in the lounge. Although the breakfast choice was good and varied, on one of our days there replenishment of some of the breakfast items was very slow and chaotic.

I liked everything! The room was great and clean, the building is really pretty (old-style) and the location is perfect. There was also free tea&coffee at the lobby (which is an amazing present in such an expensive city). The staff was amazing, helping, assisting and apoke perfect English!
