This hotel is strategically located at the end of beautiful fjords. Stay was excellent and felt close to nature away from crowd. Staff are excellent and very co-operative. We were allowed to late checkout by almost 4 hours which was a nice gesture. Facilities and room design matches nature around so don't expect a overly luxurious room . Food. No good choice for veggies. But there is always the kitchen to get over it. The price is also quite high which can be made competitive.

Beautiful countryside and scenery of the fjords, excellent buffet breakfast including make your own waffles, very friendly staff, gorgeous setting. Our room had a skylight that was a great view of the waterfalls when lying in bed! Bed was uncomfortable and pillows were very lumpy

The location is excellent, just right at the dock. The view is fantastic. The more important is the hospitality of the staff and the owner. We are the only guests for that night (6 people). They treated us so well. Even give us an extra room free when we mentioned the apartment room is a little crowded for 6 of us. Since it is just beginning of another season in 2011. We also like to design for the facility of gift shop and the those luxury room for couple. They are absolutely beautiful and fit in the nature so well.

The view over the fjord, where the hotel is on, is magnificent. You can also take a walk on the borders of the lake which we did and the view was stunning. We were there at low season so not so many boats were leaving from the peer, no tour busses which, I expect ,make the place rather crowded in summer. The hotel itself has funny, tacky Viking rooms and nice big enough motel-style rooms with their own little kitchen with sink, fridge and cooking possibilities. At the nearby gasstation/supermarket you can buy what you need to prepare your own meal.My daughter left het Nintendo DS at the hotel and when we phoned them (after a week) they had found the thing and sent it to our house in Holland without extra costs. That is what I call good service! The rooms are rather dark and when we arrived, after having booked online through this site, our family room was already taken. Luckily they still had 3 double apartmentstyle rooms which we got for the same price as the family room. Which was nice

There are few towns and little accommodation in this area of western Norway, so being able to find a hotel of any type is a bonus. Our premium room was reasonably large, and had a good bathroom. We were driving to the Flam railway, and this was the closest hotel that had a vacant room the night we wanted. Hotel is more like a motel, but at hotel prices. It has a row of rooms, all with doors directly to the outside, and some premium rooms in a circular building, all opening direct to the outside with no corridor. The hotel is next door to the Gudvangen ferry terminal, and hotel breakfast and dinner is in the shop/cafeteria for the terminal. The path to the cafeteria is made of stepping stones in the grass, outside the buildings. On a cold wet winter night it could be difficult to get to and from the cafeteria while staying dry and warm. There is no way that non-residents can be restricted from the area around the rooms. Large skylight in our premium room has no blinds and no way to block out light. We were there in the first week of August, and it was light till late at night and early the following morning.

The location. Some staff were very slow to respond to request. The breakfast buffet was very slowly re-stocked. The room was comfortable but by Australian standards very over priced.

Beautiful surroundings. Decent breakfast. Gudvangen lies between steep mountains in the narrow Nærøy fjord, and approaching it by ferry is a beautiful experience. Such a magical location, like taken out of a fantasy novel, would deserve some posh accomodation where the guests would feel like they were being attended by elves! Instead there is an overpriced and rather mangy hotel full of viking kitsch, right next to a ferry terminal with six lanes for cars and buses, and a gas station by the highway. They presumably earn their living from feeding the busloads of tourists who once in their life pass there along the "Norway in a Nutshell" tour, since I can't imagine anyone being a regular guest at this hotel! We stayed in an "apartment", i.e, a room with a minimum of furniture and decorations, a bathroom (with a leaking toilet) and a very small kitchen. Not very pleasant at all. Perhaps the ordinary rooms (those with a ceiling window) are better? If I could go back in time and plan the trip again, I would try to find a room in nearby Stalheim or Undredal instead; those places seemed a lot nicer.

The best thing about staying at Gudvangen Fyordtell & Apartments was the scenery! The room was grossly overpriced! It was little more than a log cabin and the shower (although there was a shower screen) wet the whole of the bathroom area when used. Having said this the shower worked well and the room was clean. It was just far too expensive for the room type. The breakfast provided was adequate.

The view was ok. The apartment was very bad. It was very noisy and smelled. The apartment was old and the toilet smelled very much. This was the most expensive hotel in Norway on our trip and at the same time absolutely the worst one. I would rather sleep in a normal car than in this hotel.

Awesome location, great staff and tasty food. This location is not only gorgeous but very convenient for boat tours and such. I recommend it. It is much quieter and peaceful than Flam, but close enough to go tour Flam if desired. The skylight in the room was great during the day but horrible for trying to sleep with how light it stays in the summer time. My stay would have been much improved if that could be covered during the night. I think it was great to have breakfast included, it would be even more awesome and attractive of a place if more was included in the price. If a boat tour was included or at least a discount for staying there that would have been just perfect. Or a dinner.

Hotel staff are kind and cheerful. Fjord of Gudvangen is superior and MUST to see from a boat. The hotel is located in from of the ferry terminal thus the overall atmosphere is busy and is not comfortable to relax. Breakfast menu is acceptable. Dinner menu is so expensive compared to its value that we had a dinner in a restaurant in other village on the second evening. A nearby supermarket does not have sufficient foods and we needed to go to other village.

The Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was pretty good. Enough to satisfy, but not overdone. Our room had view of waterfalls through roof windows which is a plus. Easy to get to since its the only game in town, right off the boat from the Fjord's tour. Bed was not that comfortable. Room had no T.V., a big minus if you're used to watching before bed but great if you want to get away from everything. Bathroom was a little scary. Not many amenities and a huge price to pay for not getting much.

The area is beautiful. It is a pictures spot with mountains around and numbers of natural water falls. This is an unesco heritage site. The ferry to Flam (Fjord) is just outside the hotel which is the most attractive fjord in Norway. First 2 days we were in apartment house with small kitchen and terrace. We were offered the last night in Wiking room which is an excellent experience especially when we can enjoy the mountain and water falls from your bed through the glass roof.

The hotel is the only one we saw in Gudvangen, feels like it is lost in the middle of nowhere. :) Fun Viking-themed hotel rooms and restaurant, great view over the fjord and proximity to nice walks in nature. Friendly staff. We stayed in the appartments (not the hotel rooms). It was off season so we had very few neighbors, but we could hear them very well come and go, talk ont the front porch ... I could easily imagine that in high season when all the appartments are fully booked that it could get quite disturbing ...

Out booking night was incorrect and had it booked the night before we were due. We were told the hotel had rung us but they had not left any messages on our phone so we did not know ad could not call them back. Staff were initially quite rude and unfriendly but then seemed to improve later on. Not a great welcome to the hotel though as we then had to ask if any rooms were free that night rather than them letting us know.

The management and staff of this hotel couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, they made our stay even more enjoyable, the Hotels location is in a quite valley surrounded by magnificent mountains and waterfalls, with the fjord ferry located just next door ready to take you to Flam and other parts of this beautiful fjord. The hotels was very busy on our chosen weekend away and we were lucky to be upgraded. Our room was in a Viking style which was very comfortable with a large shower wet room and a skylight over the bed so we could lie there and watch the stars at night and the mountains and waterfall in the morning, just beautiful.
