They give us another room which is in the city center, we thought it was quite far away front he city center.

Water wasn't so hot at the 1st floor for bath.

Short reception hours (9:30 - 16:30) and the matress was old so I could feel every spring of it.

First of all, we love its location which is extraordinarily convenient. Secondly, the staff is very nice and upon check out, we could negotiate to pay only 2 sets for bedsheet, pillow and towel as 3 of us only used 2 sets ultimately. On the accommodation floor, everything is well organized and we could feel like we were staying at home. We also love scenary at the dining room which made us feel very relaxing after long journey on board the train from Oslo. In conclusion, we recommend you to stay at this place.

You need to bring along your bedsheet, blanket cover as well as pillow and towel, otherwise, it will be charged extra 80 NOK per set. In addition, we arrived Bergen very early around 6-7 am so it is not convenient at all to just ask someone to open the main entrance for us to get in and drop the luggages as the system is quite complicated. However, finally we managed to get in and take a rest upstairs.

Very nice and cozy. Perfect location (close to the Rail station). Another highlight: the elevator (from 1934, worth seeing!!!!)

Didn't realise you had a dish-washer until last day! That is also a bonus.

The kitchen is well furnished, oven, microwave,kettle, and all kinds of pots, plates,cups,forks, knifes. So does the common sitting room. Everywhere was quitely neat. The most of all the location is very expedite just near the railway station. All of my 3 others friends loved it.I Guest the next time I goto Bergen, I would definitely make the same choice!

Due circumstances I was checked in, though never stayed a night at the hotel. Had to go, unexpected, directly home. Still I paid the full fare. Also, I knew breakfast was not included. I didn't read nowhere you had to take your own bedlinens or rent a set. Bad value for money.

Good location and easy to find. Good service provided by the receptiom which is open between 0900 and 1700 hrs. Left luggage behind service is also available (just ask).

Too expensive for What it is

Location was unbeatable - it was so close to the main train station (500m walk) and to Bryggen and Fish market (10 minutes of slow walk). Hostel staff was really friendly in sharing tips and information with tourists. She was also nice enough to let us deposit our luggages in her office at no extra charge when we checked out early to check out Mt Floyan before flying back to Sweden. Cosy lounge area for people to chill out after dinner / use the computer terminal. Wifi was steady! Showering facilities were adequate and spacious!

The fridge in the kitchen was forever full and we had some difficulties storing our food in it. This will not be a problem for you if you do not intend to do any cooking there! It would be nice if the hostel can invest in a bigger fridge. However, we had some bad encounters with the other guests there as some of our food was conveniently taken away from the fridge without our knowledge. The lift is a little old and would be good if the hostel can invest in a more modern lift. This will provide assurance to future guests and make their stay more enjoyable

Marken Guesthouse is location near Bergen train station and near attraction place in Bergen.

In an expensive country like Norway, Basic Hotel Marken is a fantastic affordable place to be in. It has rooms for everybody - from dormitories to ensuite double rooms. We had a wonderful time here. First of all, it is centrally located to all touring sites as well as to the railway station and the main bus stop. It is very clean and bright. The lift though very old worked fine. The rooms have good viewing options with large windows staring at high mountains and wooden houses. Our room had in kitchen and a TV with many channels. The bathroom has good hot water and we were provided with shower gel and liquid soap. The staff was polite and very helpful. The hotel gives discount vouchers for breakfast and other meal options in nearby restaurants

On the flip side, the shower enclosure in the bathroom is too narrow. The staff at the reception is available only between 9 and 16.30. If one arrives out of this time schedule, then one has to inform them beforehand. Also the bed linen and towels cost extra, though we were lucky as it was already in the room mistakenly and hence we were not charged extra for them. And the kitchen, barring the electric kettle, could be used only if one stayed for longer days! On the whole, I will recommend this hotel to anyone who intends to visit Bergen!
