Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colorful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.
For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.
The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 1,000 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.
Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping center are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural attractions include many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.
Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

Visited Bergen to watch the concerts by Aurora, my favourite artist. What a gorgeous place, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. People were friendly and the experience unbelievable. I was so sad to leave! Can’t wait to go back, the sooner the better. Thanks to both the people and town of Bergen - and Aurora of course, for incredible shows! - for some of the best few days I’ve ever had.

The ride up the mountain is a must on a clear day of course.

Wonderful trip to Greigs museum in Hop an lite rail trip out of city then a walk, aquarium a great display, funicular rail lovely even on a windy cold day not much food wise tho so take something with you, wander off the main streets as so much more to see outside of tourist shops.
St Mary’s church beautiful and the organist was a real treat,
Cruises a bit too busy for our liking rather crowded even in the slow season.
Fish market an interesting place to see too.

We have selected a low-season period (end of february) and probably the month with higher rain probability in Bergen. And we got it every day! But just taking the funicular, we were able to convert rain into snow which is far more pleasant! We liked to walk into the town, see its museums, we ate in several places and found some also reasonably priced (an indian restaurant, a zupperia, etc...). We made two one-day excursions that were highly worth doing. And on Sunday we found a Catholic Church where we could partecipate to a very curated Sunday Mass celebration.
The tourism office has been full of useful suggestions.

We arrived late winter, it was cold and rained quite often but it was great. We dressed appropriately, with layers and purchased umbrellas too. The weather provides a nice atmosphere and for us that haven't seen snow too often it was great seeing it on surrounding hilltops and passing through it whilst out on tours. The museums providing the history of the area and the architecture is mind blowing. Need a lot more than a week to take it all in. Perhaps a revisit in different seasons is a must.

Bergen is a beautiful city, with beautiful people.
Bergen is a beautiful city, with beautiful people. Everywhere is very clean. The food is amazing, and the views are astounding! 3-4 days is perfect for a visit, especially if you want to do some excursions like a cruise around the fjords or go up some of the mountains.
Location could not have been better. Not only was the hotel located in the very center of Bergen within easy walking distance to all attractions, the airport bus stops very close to the hotel entrance. The Breakfast was excellent and the room well appointed, equipped, immaculate, and comfortable In addition, all the staff we had contact with, primarily reception and restaurant personnel were welcoming, accommodating, friendly, and helpful.
.
Fantastic location, really close to the station so perfect for the Norway in a Nutshell tour that we did. Worked really well for our arrival late at night as the self check in was really easy and smooth
Plenty of nice places to eat and drink nearby with all the tourist sites a short walk away.
The room itself was nice, very clean and the communication from the hotel before our stay was clear and helpful.
This property is in the heart of Bergen, has great views of the water as well as surrounding area, and is upscale while staying true to Norwegian style and traditions.
Our room was amazing! We booked the Family Suite, but the staff completely surprised us by upgrading us upon arrival to the Presidential Suite. It was an amazing surprise and the perfect ending to our twelve-day Norway road trip.
Very good location. Staff are hit and miss, some are very helpful, others are not. The gentleman who let's everybody in for breakfast is outstanding and even remembers most people's names after just seeing them once. No idea how he manages that. Sadly I didn't get HIS name. Breakfast itself is one of the best I had in Norway.
Amazing place with super friendly and helpful staff. Nice atmosphere, close to everything downtown Bergen. Quiet, comfortable bed and pillows. I got the best sleep here during my entire stay in Norway. The breakfast was beyond my expectations, vegan and gluten free options, two different types of plant based milk...
A beautifully elegant hotel, where nothing is too much trouble. Very friendly, welcoming and attentive staff. Nice touches throughout. Attractive rooms. Excellent breakfast choices in a comfortable environment. We stayed in some lovely places during our Norway trip, this was our favourite.
Grand Hotel next to the train station and close to bus station. Close to tram line to airport ( and a few stops to city centre). Perfect place to stay for onward transport. The breakfast was outstanding. Excellent choice and quality. Best in many visits to Norway.
Perfect location, you can walk to most of the attractions in Bergen. The bathroom floors are heated and the showers are quite nice. I'd say it's a fairly good accommodation for the price you pay ,specially considering it's Norway.
Super friendly staff. The hotel’s location is good to take a tram to the city center and the airport. The facilities in the room are also very nice. I definitely will stay here when I visit Bergen next time.
Nothing. The owner screamed at us and lied about the room, and booking.com did not respond to any of our calls. Don't book with them.
We traveled to Norway and met very nice people, except for this place!
What you get is extremely good facilities by the price, which is low when it comes to Norway (even hostels). Very close to Bergen S, all the people were very kind. Kitchen area is fab!
Great breakfast as with all Scandics we've stayed in Norway so far. Perfect location right in the center, very close to the train station as well as the tram to the airport.
Aesthetically beautiful, superb staff, service far beyond the norm for Norway, perfect location, comfy beds. This was our fourth time staying, and we love coming back.
Perfect hotel, very clean, very good value price for Norway, just to keep in mind that it's not in the center of the city but there is a tram few steps from the hotel
