Welcoming, warm and very comfy bed. Breakfast self service reasonable choice. We had a dressing table which vibrated due to some generator or other located in the corridor outside our room, somewhat annoying when items on the table took flight.

The location was very handy to the central shopping area and a short walk to Tromso Polar Museum, Perspective Museum and The Art Museum or Norther Norway. Also within walking distance to Polaria. Breakfast was quite adequate tho rather basic. The view from our room across the water and of the Tromso Bridge and Arctic Cathedral was a lovely surprise - especially beautiful at night. The room, tho' small, was comfortable enough for our two night stay. We stayed in January 2013 and the icy footpath on the hill climb (not steep) to the hotel from the town centre was at times quite slippery.(Not a fault of the hotel tho.) Would be nice to have tea/coffee facilities in room. Altho' the hotel was clean the interior appeared old and tired.

Very friendly and helpful staff, central location, completely equipped, breakfast included and aptly timed. Altough complete, the hotel is a little 'worn' around the edges, our room was on the small side, tv: norwegian channels only- not a real problem any of that. Parking behind the hotel, however, is 100kr/14 € per day extra.

For a basic hotel this place is really rather good; the breakfast room was spotless with quite a selection of cold food (but no fruit). I particularly liked the heated floor in the bathroom and my single room was clean, large enough with a comfy chair to sit in and a large table on which to organise my bits & pieces. The bedside lamp didn't work but was changed when I told reception about the problem. It is close to the town centre and about 50 metres from a bus stop from which a no 42 bus will take you to the airport. The complete absence of fruit at breakfast was a major disappointment.

Staff were friendly, tried to assist in every way they could. Location was good, at the end of the main street. Rooms and bathrooms clean, no real issues. A bit pricey for what you get, but reasonable for Norway. While the staff tried to help as best they could, they were not particularly knowledgeable in terms of the various tour operators

The hotel was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Although expensive by British standards it compares very favourably with other hotel prices locally. Jonathan (not sure of the Norwegian spelling) who was on Reception when we arrived, was extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great, there was plenty of choice and you could help yourself and really fill up for the day and drink as much tea, coffee or juice as you wished. The freshly boiled eggs were good, too. There was nothing we disliked but the addition of two little things would have improved our stay enormously, especially given that we are British and usually holiday in the very cheap and cheerful Greek Islands! 1. A kettle and a couple of mugs in the room and we could have bought our own tea/coffee/milk - a brew last thing at night and first thing in the morning would have been lovely. The machine in reception required circa £1.50 for half a paper cup of lukewarm, poor coffee. 2. A toaster in the dining room would have improved the breakfast for us. There were some lovely preserves that would have been much better on toast!

It was a very nice room with basic fittings and comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and there was underfloor heating, which was very nice. The breakfast was a buffet style and it was quite acceptable and in pleasant surroundings. The reception staff were very helpful.

Centrally located to Town Centre within a couple of minutes walk! Nice friendly staff! Heated floor in bathroom, comfortable bed, Breakfast layout was nice, (but basic) Bedroom was small, but a good enough for a few days stay, The hotel is situated on a hill/slope and we had snow/rain and it was very slippery underfoot to town centre!, No Tea/coffee making facillities in the room although there is a small machine in the reception area for a small price for a cup!

This is one of the least expensive hotels in Tromso, yet adequate for both business and holiday trips. A perfectly OK breakfast is included in the room rate. Not only is the hotel centrally located, but a nearby bus stop makes it possible to get to the airport in less than 15 minutes for just 28 kronor (on the No. 42 bus). In sum, Skansen Hotel is good value for money, especially since what is 'cheap' in Norway is usually far from cheap in the rest of the world, US and EU included. As everyone is supposed to carry a cell phone these days, there are no telephones left in the rooms. They used to be there, but It looks as if they were all removed a couple of years ago; which, in my view, was pretty stupid. Cell phones are easy to lose, and cell phone batteries can go flat. Guests should always be able to call the police or an ambulance with or without a cell phone. If there are no phones in the rooms, there should at least be a pay phone in the corridor on each floor, and that is not the case.

I didn't like this hotel, the only good thing was the location. We stayed in 6 hotels in Norway, and this was the worst! They were house repairs under our room, with a terrible noise from 8:15h A.M. They didn´t clean the room or emptied the garbage. We had booked a triple room, but the third bed was very uncorfortable. The beakfast was poor. Because of the noise and the grubbiness we tried to wright a complaint but in the reception they said they had'n a complaints book.

A lot of renovation has been carried out to the hotel. Some work is still be done, but any hammering or noise is being done between 11.00 and 15.00 hrs. I stayed there for 6 nights and where the hotel is situated, there was no traffic noise, also the rooms are well insulated and I couldn't hear the people in the next room to me. There is underfloor heating in the bathroom which you can control and the same in the bedroom. I had a big double bed to myself. There is no facilities in the rooms to make coffee or tea, but because I was staying for 6 nights, they did provide the tea and coffee and kettle. The whole place is new. The breakfast room was large and very clean. It is a continental breakfast so don't expect too much. It is only open between 7 to 10 am. Staff are very friendly and the hotel price per night is good value.
