I think it would have been not nearly as fun if we had just been visiting the town as a couple of foreign tourists. As it was, we had local friends who were able to show us around, take us to the best shopping places, cook with us, etc. Coming from Thailand, I am used to having a lot more infrastructure. People here get around mostly by scudi (scooter bikes) or auto-rickshaw. If you want to see what life in small-town Nepal is like, this is a perfect place. Like almost anywhere in Nepal, there is a lot of GARBAGE everywhere, and public toilets are either nonexistent or disgusting, but I understand the government is working on doing something about this. At least our hotel was impeccably clean. There is a bilingual school (Kamane Academy) in the Kamane district which is well worth visiting to see how the Nepalese are preparing their next generation for the future. Nearby tourist sights include Makawanpur Gadhi, a 14th-century fort well worth the outing, and Churiya Mai temple, which is famous for being a place that people go to to bless their automobiles (individuals, rickshaw drivers, bus drivers). In the afternoon it is full of monkeys. A good restaurant is Vishudda Momocha, where you will also get excellent Newari food.
