The hotel is a beautiful piece of architecture with friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Loved that even though it is in the middle of the city, it is a private area with good amenities. Great food too! 1. The location 2. Breakfast was OK - not great 3. Daily cleaning - necessities were replaced, but the room was not actually cleaned (ex. had dinner from room service and the plates and tray stayed outside the room for 2 days)

Old style but untidy and dirty hotel. Scratches and the paint of the wall is falling apart, the elevator door are awful. The ceiling is full of wet. Is a 2 stars hotel with price of 5 star hotel.

Old style palace. The wide corridors with wooden carvings. The saluting doorman. The very friendly restaurant staff. The food was very good.

I only stayed overnight at the hotel so didn't get to enjoy the full facilities. The staff were very helpful and interested in making sure I enjoyed my stay. I was charged $us17 to be picked up from the airport when many hotels provide this service for free.

The kindness of the staff, the nice architecture with wide rooms and corridors, the swimming-pool, very pleasant in February (even with a water temperature of 14°C...)

Hotel Shanker is a very nice hotel. The staff in the hotel is very polite. The structure of the old palace is very interesting and our suite was great. It is a pleasure to relax on the pool side and we enjoyed the spa very much! The menu of the restaurant would need a brush up and the presentation of the food as well. Why is there no Nepalese food there, at least momo's?

Very attentive staff. Always be wary of the food. My husband ordered a [medium rare] burger and got a touch of food poisoning.

1. Location 2. Clean rooms 3. Old heritage building 1. Sluggish service at times 2. Average breakfast spread 3. Travel desk does not have integrated billing with Hotel bill. One needs to give cash for hiring a car to the travel desk

Breakfast was nice, very nice warm, hot shower. Katmandu itself is dirty, and the shanker is a hotel based on an old reputation. 160$ a night is extremely expensive for nepal standards !

Right from the front desk, to the restaurant and house keeping, this hotel has a team of excellent, well-trained and very courteous staff. Our stay was absolutely comfortable and frankly, we can't ask for more. My wife's birthday came during the stay and I asked the front desk to arrange for a birthday cake and bouquet. They not only arranged everything to perfection but also gave the cake as complimentary.

Impressive hall for breakfast and the food itself was very good. Really nice warm and friendly staff. When we arrived they brought some chocolate and fruit to our room as a welcome, which was nice of them. The tuk-tuk driver outside the gates is a pain in the ass. He will cheat you. Just get a taxi any time and have reception call it. Tuk-tuk on the streets is slow and probably dangerous anyway.

The Garden and Pool area was very well kept and throughout our stay the weather was very nice to relax by the pool This is definetley one of the noisest hotels I think I have ever stayed in. Their was a constant piping noise in the bathroom which was never fixed or offer of a room and there was a lot of renovation going on which started at breakfast time on the roof and the fornt of the hotel and on one morning we woke up to fron drive way being dug up on New Years Eve which we found strange being probably one of the busiest days of the year we imagined. The beds were also extremley uncomfortable and small we are both 6ft Tall and found the single beds small. On one occasion our room was not serviced after calling housekeeping twice to have the room or even just fresh towels delievered. I perosnally would not grade this hotel 4 stars more 2-3 star at best

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a beautiful old building and rooms and suites are clean and comfortable. The hotel bar was cozy and staff were friendly. the hotel had a small number of shops that sold local goods at very good prices. Excellent location as it is in its own gardens it is away from most of the hustle and bustle of city life whilst still being really close to the tourist destinations. The evening restuarant was in a dingey cold room and the food was not great (evening buffet was good but pricey). Breakfast was buffet style but the quality of food was poor compared with local alternatives. We had booked for breakfast each day but decided to walk to the local coffee shop each morning instead as the coffee was much better and we could have a light snack that was more to our taste.

The workers are friendly and accomodating. The design of the hotel is still impressive, especially the large room where one eats breakfast. It offers the best price for what they deliver. They accept credit card. Occasional lack of electricity soon returned (maybe with use of a generator.) If you happen to be there during the wedding season, like we did, there is loud music until late every night.

I've stayed here before and the fact that I returned says a lot. It's definitely one of the pricier options in Kathmandu, but it's worth it. The facilities are all up to, what I would call, developed world standards and the building itself is beautiful and appropriate without losing the culture or being a chain hotel (the main reason I would pay for this hotel over ones with similar prices and amenities). The water out of the pipes is really dirty though, but I think that's just a Kathmandu thing. It's a little too pricey, but I still paid it. Also, I'm always a little unsure of tipping policy. Being a westerner, I feel service industry workers always upcharge in the first place. In the us, we always tip but in the uae, where I work now, you almost never tip and I am often conflicted on this. But since I'm paying *so much* for Nepalese standards, I felt I shouldn't need to tip here and yet there seemed to be the constant, understated expectation from the workers that I should provide a tip.
