Auckland City Hotel - Hobson St  

A tidy friendly good value hotel close to everything in the city. For the price, it exceeded expectations.

Location, price

Nowhere in bathroom to put things. Large ugly heating system in the rooms.

Quiet; practically no street noise; centrally located however it is an uphill walk from the city centre. Good price.

I cannot understand why people have given this hotel such a good rating. Guest consumables were minimal. Our room had one tiny bar of soap, two standard teabags and 4 tiny milk containers. There was no dish-cloth, dish-mop, tea-towel or a plug for the kitchen sink, so it was impossible to properly wash and dry dishes. The staff did not even wash the dishes when they serviced the room. They just put the dishes we had rinsed onto a bathroom hand towel and left these on the sink. The sheets were threadbare and the bed was barely made, more just thrown together. We had to remake the bed before sleeping in it. The bathroom (room 205) certainly has its share of mould around the shower. Room heating consists of 3 portable electric oil filled heaters and one portable air conditioning unit. The room reached a comfortable temperature with all heaters switched on. On checking in to our room, we found a faulty (flashing) bathroom light, and the power outlets supplying the kitchen jug and tv were not working. The circuit breaker had tripped. These were promptly fixed when reported to reception. Please don't get me wrong, this hotel is not terrible. I just feel it doesn't deserve the rating the other reviewers have given it. If management took a little bit more interest, got rid of the mould in the shower, did random checks on the rooms to make sure they had been adequately serviced and were a little bit more generous with guest consumables, this hotel would be more than adequate.

I found the staff to be very accommodating to our requests. Very handy to the shopping area of Queen Street and to the theaters and Night Life. A short stroll to the Waterfront and to the Ferries. A good priced Hotel with a very good Restaurant attached with a reasonably priced Breakfast. I would recommend the Hotel and would stay there again a Quiet and enjoyable stay

I gave Good as Ratings because this is where the hotel sits in my view. Everything was adequate for a short stay. Value for money was good as well. Coming from Australia we are used to very good value in city hotels as it is an extremely competitive market

For the money there was nothing to dislike. Probably the walk up the hills from the shopping precinct was the only negative. Don't think you can change that !

Convenient location. Considered the price to be very reasonable for the central location.

There was no parking available. Had to make alternate arrangements to park the car.

Handy to theatres, the art gallery and shops. Clean, friendly, good value for money. Our room was quiet - no street noise.

Price and location with kitchen facilities. Beds were comfortable. Good tv. Room was large. Staff responded to any problems we had. Free Wifi(1 hr per day).

Safe didn't had to be cut open to get our valuables out. There was no fry pan. No can opener and the one that we were given didn't work so the staff used the restaurant can opener to open our can. Can't leave windows open when going to sleep because of the excessive noise from surrounding buildings. The carpet needed better vacuuming.

Auckland City Hotel was a great location for the price. Good size room with every thing you need. Having a kitchenett was an advantage if the room had had a table & chairs. The rooms were serviced well. We found it very quite considering it being so close to city centre.

Room was tight for space and bathroom facilities werent the best....leaking tapware , not enough towel holders etc

Although our room wasn't ready when we arrived after a 20 hr, cross ocean flight, they provided a place for us to shower nand change. Clothes and leave our luggage while we explored the city. Great service.

Parking was very tight and difficult for us doing the driving on the left thing!
