We ordered food at the fairways restaurant on the Saturday after golf. It took 40 minutes+ for a bowl of fries. The staff did the best they could but were obviously understaffed!

On arrival the complex computers had gone down due to a problem with a localised cable. This meant a back log of manual checking in along with protracted paper work. Our reservation for (2) double rooms was not able to be located as a result. Having hard copies ourselves helped and we were finally upgraded to a suite which proved to be both a comfortable advantage and the highlight to our weekend. Thanks for this opportunity.

I'm sorry to say Friday night buffet at the Fairways Restaurant was one of the worst and least valued meals we have ever experienced at the hotel throughout the last decade we have been coming to Wairakei. The lamb chops in particular were tough on the outside and raw in the centre. The traditional displays of salads and meats were just not there. This was a shame as over the years we have have had terrific buffets at the restaurant which in turn have pursuaded us to 'eat in' rather than go into town. Not again I'm afraid. The presentation and quality did not match the outlay. I would have rather paid another $5 -$10 per head for a reasonble meal than what was presented. Forced to travel into town for Saturday's evening meal. Sorry guys really impressed with the staff at reception and the upgrade to a suite but your restaurant (Fairways) let you down badly.

Staff overall friendly but outside 703, loud staff talking quite early. Spa pools needed cleaning. Privacy issue regarding giving my cell phone number to bp Wairakei. Outdated décor (but hey?) what can you say about the price.

It was far enough from Taupo to get away from the usual tourist crowd. Everything you need for a relaxing stay is available on the grounds (spa, hot pools and good food), so if you want a quiet retreat you don't even need to leave the resort. But if you want to sight-see, then the resort is still close enough to the good tourist places like the Huka Falls, Craters of the Moon, and the Prawn Park. If you have kids, make sure you bring their bikes and/or scooters.

Having to drive 5 hours from Wellington to get there.

We love to have golf so close and shops. Also the relaxed atmosphere

The setting is beautiful. Facilities good and proximity to Taupo also useful. Very relaxing would be best way to describe it, most relaxed I have been for a long time.

On check in it would be good if the staff told you you have breakfast with your room and where the restaurant for the breakfast is.

The room was fantastic beautiful and clean, resort grounds were also nice, staff were helpful and efficient.

The food at the Fairways buffet was terrible, it was cold and not very good at all. We were not the only ones to complain about this, we also found breakfast to be a bit of a mess regarding the self service plan.

We like the memories - we spent the first night of our honeymoon at the hotel in 1959 - 54 years ago - and we stay at the hotel and reminisce whenever we are in the region.

We thought the standard of the hot pools were not as high as we remember from years ago.

I liked the feeling of space outside in the grounds and the options to select from ie two pools , gardens, walks, sporting activities.

The Hotel is a bit dated in decor. The bar / restaurant is a bit 'old hat' not that I wanted a city night club image but it just felt a bit Mumzee.

Easy access, parking. Nice to have spa available late

Dirty cup found on verandah on arrival. Light switch for light over bed not working

good and quiet and comfortable and the room was very well serviced daily

Only criticism was the shower over the bath

Closeness to Taupo staff quite friendly

The hotel needs a refurbish and for $170 we should have had a bigger room or at least breakfast included...We had a buffet dinner on the friday night and it was disgraceful...We won,t eat there again
