“ I liked the fact that Base Auckland is close to every facility we could possibly need. The staff were extra friendly & helpful whenever we approached them for whatever reason, nothing was too trivial for them to be bothered with. Would I return........YES definitely!!! ”

Location Staff friendly Overall, Base Auckland is pretty old and run-down compared to other places we stayed. Our double room did not have a window or a bathroom and the walls were so thin we got to enjoy an entire phone conversation whilst in bed, apparently the nursing business isn't great the mo, so the girl is working as a stripper instead, at a touching club...nice! Wifi is not free and is slowwww. (Shared) bathrooms are old and not very clean. This place is expensive for what it is and not worth the money, try the Ascotia off Queen instead, really nice (and cheaper!).

It was clean and modern. There was the constant noise of the air conditioning. It sounded like there was a truck outside running. I had trouble sleeping.

Close to britomart. Would recommend as cheap and only one close to queen st. Stayed in 305. Sheets had holes in them noisy next to reception. Tv did not get tv 2 and reception had no idea how to fix. Breakfast wasn't easy to find so gave up as had train to catch.

Location is excellent. View from window, excellent. Staff were great. Use of kitchen meant that I saved a fortune on food. No TV in room.

Location was good for those wanting to be in the centre city. Double bedroom was simple but a good size. Shared bathrooms are in a very poor condition and need a complete overhaul. Not that many facilities, with cramped showers with the bottom of the doors rotting due to the poor design. Bathrooms don't feel clean because of the worn surfaces. Also pays to note it's a big party hostel.

Well conditioned, tidy room. Had a bit of a disagreement about the fact the booking had been paid for in advance due to someone having keyed it wrong in their system. This was resolved after about 10 minutes when they finally found the confirmation. Not sure if there was any warning that a 'key deposit' was required at checkin..

En suite in private room was clean. Understaffed, not the most friendly. Staff seemed swamped with long queues of people getting impatient. The "double" bed is two singe beds pushed together. You will not have a good nights sleep. Woke up with a sore back. The breakfast costs $8 to add on and is very basic. Not worth $8.

The reception staff are fantastic- really friendly & helpful. &Quot; The Sanctuary"- a lovely touch for the female only dorm! The bed was comfy & super clean with white duvet covers. The towel, soap & shampoo provided were a real treat. I think there was a wee misunderstanding at the Globe bar about the voucher for free "bubbly"- a mini bottle of lindauer. Two of my dorm-mates and I were able to get ours but our other dorm-mate was refused. I went to the bar and asked on her behalf. The bar "manager"? Told me that we shouldn't have been given the lindauer because it cost $15/mini bottle! I guess he doesn't go to the grocery store often -you can buy them right now at New World for $3/mini bottle, down from the regular $4. Anyway after being pretty rude to me about it, he said that she could come down to the bar and use her voucher to have a glass of house wine or a beer or whatever. She didn't want to go down because there were only guys in the bar and the atmosphere is a bit rough & scary. If you go to the trouble to stay in "The Sanctuary" you probably aren't exactly in the target market of the Globe bar. It might be worth considering offering the "bubbly"(which is a super-nice treat and much appreciated) in your garden bar or other environment. Btw- they didn't even offer us a glass to put the bubbly in- a very classy moment, drinking the Lindauer out of the bottle! Sigh- next time I'll get my own from the corner store! Cheers Nicole

On arrival I was informed my 2 separate online bookings where not available. So no bed the first night & for the return trip my other online booking the room was also double booked. I was eventually found a room with shared bathroom after it was vacated. What I had booked was a room with an ensuite. My question is how can 2 separate bookings be both double booked?????

The place is really well located, they tell you about all this cheap and free activities to do, which is great and the stuff are really nice! The price for what they offer is very high... We paid $75 a night for a really small double room, with no windows and the toilet was at the end of 2 corridors.

The room was spacious and comfy. Mini-fridge included in the room. Price was great and location COULD NOT BE BETTER! No control over the AC in the room (that I found) and got too cold in the bed by the unit and window. Half the showers didn't work, and the ones that do you have to continuously hold down or constantly push the button so it's practically impossible to rinse your hair or shave your legs. I realize it's water conservation but it could stay on for at least 1-2 minutes at a time when you push the button instead of 1-2 seconds.... please?

I enjoyed the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, and the price for the accommodation was perfectly reasonable for what I got. The location of Base in Auckland is superb with the cbd of Queen St at your doorstep and the train/bus stations are within a few minutes walks. Overall, excellent!
