Mangonui is a pleasant small place with a beautiful waterfront. Considering its size it has a good range of eating places as well as a supermarket. The heritage trail is interesting and also a good walk, although there are some steep sections once you leave the waterside. There are good views all around. At low tide there is an interesting range of bird life on the exposed mud. There is obviously good fishing. This a good place to tke a trip up to Cape Reinga and the nearby KariKari peninsula has a winery and good beaches.

Original town buildings in a unspoilt, beautiful, harbour setting with excellent boardwalk along the foreshore. Good information provided on the old buildings about their previous uses. Reasonable range of places to eat.

Loved our stay in Mangonui.
Loved our stay in Mangonui. Very central apartment lovely and relaxing atmosphere, very quiet at night. Only minuses were our room was very hot at night and the bed was mediocre but ok for a couple of nights. We ate at Jess’cafe right below the apartment and the food was STUNNING!!! The board walk is fabulous and everything was super accessible by foot.

Mangonui is a cute little town with a wonderful waterfront boardwalk. When we discovered that we could join a bus tour from Paihia to Cape Reinga we knew our decision to stay at The Old Oak Boutique Hotel was perfect on every level.
My husband and eight year old daughter stayed here while visiting family in the area, and we absolutely loved it. The motel is clean and comfortable, thoughtfully stocked, and the view! The view is stunning, and cannot be beat. It is conveniently located to shops and restaurants within walking distance (although uphill on the way back, heads up for those less mobile), and has everything you might need in the rooms, great value.
Thanks for having us!

Loved the spa pool outside and the hop, skip and jump to a beautiful beach and despite the fact there was a storm when we stayed, it still looked wonderful. We did manage two walks on the beach. The studio had everything we needed. For a small size it was well appointed. There's also DVDs and a book library, brilliant for wet days. We enjoyed the little Saturday craft market in the hall in Mangonui and the nearby coffee shops. It was a great place for our journey up to Cape Reinga.
Fiona was an exceptional host. From the moment l arrived she was present and welcoming. She has a delightful home that is spacious and peaceful with a charming view of Mangonui Harbour. As a solo traveller she particularly made me feel comfortable and was so personable which l appreciated. As a breakfast person her delicious breakfast made a great start to the day. Highly recommend to all types of visitors. I know she will adapt and cater to make your stay memorable.
Cool historical hotel, clean and comfy, the owner has put a lot of time and effort into doing the place up, new beds and smart TV have been added including the crisp clean sheets and bedding. Just got to remember to not use all the electrical at one time in the little kitchen lol, it is an older building haha, but you no you make do, and staff are happy to jump-start us again haha. I love this place-the seaside view decking for a cuppa- magical.
Beautiful views overlooking Mangonui. The beds were very comfy and the unit had everything we needed for our get away. Chester was very friendly and accommodating to our family. Loved the free parking and great location which meant we could leave our car at the hotel, have a wine and walk 5 mins to the restaurant for dinner. Sky TV was a bonus to watch rugby later. Highly recommend and will be back but for a longer stay next time.
This was the super amazing stay! We loved Ranui Lodge totally and the views from the rooms was just amazing! We had all we need, kitchen, bathroom, laundry service, parking and beautiful view and garden&patio. Michelle is the best host ever, she is so friendly and helpful. We felt like she is someone in our family. Thanks to her and her lovely lodge. Definitely will stay again if ever visit Mangonui!
Situated in Mill Bay, a pretty and quiet location within walking distance of the cafes and restaurants of Mangonui. Has a very good swimming pool, which was a big attraction. We had a unit on the lower floor, so a big verandah to sit on, shared with the unit next door. The room was a good size, because the building is an older one, in the style of the late 70s or early 80s.
The warm welcome from the Owners Jennifer and Justin - the history of the hotel and the original features - the layout of our little suite of rooms and the balcony overlooking the water, ideal for an early evening drink - the location of the hotel in relation to Mangonui Village - and the picnic our hosts prepared for us for our day exploring Cape Reinga.
The motel was in a perfect position on the waterfront at Mangonui and a very short walk to cafes, bars and shops. The view from the rooms was magnificent...unfortunately, it seems that the motel will be closing and reverting to shops. This would be a disappointment but as it has only a couple of rooms - it may be inevitable.
The location is amazing your view is as they show on their site. Straight up the harbour. A quick 2 minute walk down to the main street to the shops and hotel. Excellent service and advice what you should see. A real treasure and will definitely be returning hopefully in the near future.
Lovely room with a beautiful view which was in walking distance of restaurants, pub and grocery shop. Coopers beach is a 5 minute drive away and we went for 2 walks along the beach while we were there for the weekend.
Loved everything about Mangonui Motel! Customer service excellent. Our room was so spacious and had everything we needed. The views are absolutely stunning! Had a great stay. Till next time 😊
A comfortable and spacious motel unit with a glorious view. Kitchen was well equipped, good WiFi, comfortable beds. The motel is being renovated. Owner was very helpful.
