When we first arrived, we need to refuel the car. We went to the nearest petrol station and wondered why the pump wasn’t working. We had to prepay for our fuel. No signage to advise that and where we come from this isn’t the norm so we were confused and it was not a good first impression of Hamilton. We only stayed there as it is close to Waitomo Caves, but now that we have been, we would not choose to stay there again.

A few bright spots but the only reason I stayed there was to go to Auckland airport the next day. Bus to airport from Hamilton worked well. Otherwise it is not a destination place to me. Loved Cream Eatery for breakfast though!

Absolutely loved the gardens which were such a good showcase of Hamilton. Unfortunately, Hamilton like a number of other large NZ cities, seemed to have gone downhill despite a lot of new builds and there is quite a bit of degradation, rubbish, abandoned trollies and somewhat unstable people lurking about which make the place look less pleasant and feels unsafe.

Hamilton has a lot to offer with its beautiful gardens, river walks and childrens parks. Restaurants and cafes are abundant. Victoria Street is the best place to stay if you have to travel by bus. Everything is at your fingertips. The VR Hotel offers retro style ambiance and is located perfectly for family or business trips.

We spent no time in the city centre, but the zoo was good - well stocked with a range of well designed and maintained enclosures. The gardens were huge and well maintained though it needed a bit longer to fully appreciate.
We had the best burgers for a very long time locally, at Winner Winner".

Hamilton has plenty of attrctions for a vistor.
Hamilton has plenty of attrctions for a vistor. The garden, lake, waterfalls and beach not far. Trip to Bridal veil falls and Raglan is a good time spent. Kiwi house with lots of birds is another place to spend time and also learn.
The Hotel is beautifully presented. Bright and airy reception/restaurant area.
Valet parking available.
Rooms are modern, very clean and very comfortable beds.
Mini fridge, jug, iron, ironing board, hair dryer, TV and small desk.
Would definitely recommend if you need a night's stay in Hamilton.
Walking distance to main street and casino.
Our room was large with a comfortable couch and plenty of space for luggage. Linens on the bed and towels were top notch, what you'd expect at a five star hotel. The water was soft, and the remodeled bathroom and shower were amazing. We highly recommend this gem of a motel, and their pleasant and helpful staff.
Honestly, just amazing all round. Superb staff from the hotel manager greeting you at reception and conversating, to bar/restaurant staff. Room was large, very comfortable bed and very nice amenities, all extremely clean. Restaurant food, while a small menu, was amazing. Best overnight stay I've had in Hamilton.
Good size room, and spotless. Place was immaculate, cleaner than some high end hotels I've stayed in. Location great in Hamilton East, on main road and close to bus routes, plenty of cafes within walking distance. CBD short bus/taxi ride away or is walkable.
Breakfast was great. Simple but great value for the price. The room was spacious, the shower had amazing pressure and the water was really hot. The lobby desk help were great. Central location to Hamilton Gardens, River Walk, Zoo, and the Tree Arboretum.
New build so nice and clean. Easy parking and access. Kitchen is beautiful and has everything you need. Overall the room itself, location etc was brilliant. The fact that it was also by far the cheapest in Hamilton also outweighed the few cons.
Great place to stay, had car parks at the hotel which helped as hamilton is all paid parking and busy. Central location good variety of places to eat. Cafe next door was great.
Will book again
Breakfast was more than adequate for us. I love the quirky style of the dining area and the hotel generally. It's very comfortable and relaxing particularly being away from the central city.
Really like the look and feel of the building. Staff very warm and helpful. Location very convenient - halfway between Hamilton and Cambridge. Great selection for continental breakfast.
The best accommodation we found in Hamilton. We will be back next time. Super clean, very comfortable and large room, the actual room is better than the photos.
