We had a warm, friendly welcome from Mary and Jim who were very accommodating and took the time to sit down and engage with us as guests without being intrusive. Their house is comfortable and immaculate and the food excellent.

The location was ideal for a stop off between Christchurch and Queenstown, it was a good location for travelling to both Mount Cook and Lake Takepo. Jim & Mary, owners of the lodge we're very hospitable and recommended good restaurants in Twizel. The lodge was very relaxing, the breakfast was very good value for money and all of the rooms were of excellent standard

Absolutely everything!! From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was fantastic, jim and Mary the hosts could not have made us more welcome. From the accommodation to location to the friendliness, everything was first class and a good stop off point from Christ church to Queenstown, would definitely recommend to friends.

We were given a slpendid welcome to the comfortable facilities. The pot bellied stove was already alight and the apartment warm with home made biscuits and real coffee supplied. We were offered helpful suggestions regarding best skifields and other useful local knowledge. A big thank you to an excellent place to stay. We shall be telling all our friends.

Loved the owner, Mr P. A very warm and friendly man, took utmost care of guests and made sure we felt at home. Never encountered such a hotel owner before, and I'm not sure I will again. He had thought about the minutest details for his guests and saw to it that our stay was comfortable. In all the foreign trips and hotels I have stayed, I think this one comes in #1 for me.

Great family space but equally beautiful house to stay in. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful but as our stay was short we did not fully use this service. Views from our separate sleepout/ lodge were lovely and in Winter when wood- burner was working would be amazingly cosy.

Very minor point that our room smelled smoky, but our hosts were fixing this and very apologetic.(Woodburner being fixed). Possibly some people may not like a bed in the lounge( our parents) but we stayed in this and thought it was fine

Heartland Lodge was a stunningly designed and maintained lodge. The decor and ambience were fantastic, elegant yet warm and welcoming. Our room was spacious and the bed was excellent. The bathroom was luxurious. Our hosts were knowledgable, welcoming and friendly. We would definitely recommend Heartland Lodge and would stay there again.

The old couple were polite and welcomed us and other guests with words writing on a small board, which made us feel warm. They sent us chopsticks after knowing us as Chinese. 老夫妇俩礼貌客气，客人入住时在一块小牌子上写着欢迎某某一家，使人感到亲切。得知我们来自中国，还为我们- 送来了筷子。

As compared with all the 3-3.5 star accommodation we stayed during our 11 day travel in New Zealand, we felt this “5 star” hotel the worst. 1. As the retreat has a cone-shape roof and we stayed upstairs, all of us bumped our head several times. Even the worse was the microwave oven hung above the trash-bin, the corner of that hurt my head badly after I threw trash and then fetched a bowel from the cabinet. 2. We felt very inconvenient due to short of kitchen facilities and cooking utensils. No roaster, no soup ladle, nothing to wash dishes, too low power of electric and microwave ovens, and no hair drier in the bathroom. 3. That day the temperature went quiet high, and the upstairs of the retreat was very sultry and hot. 4. The hot water supply was far from enough. We were five but the hot water ran out when the third one was bathing. The bass blamed us as using too much hot water, while in fact we only washed the dishes before bathing. 5. There was a strong fishy smell in the fridge. Neither the plenty residues in the toaster were cleaned. When I took the toaster down a dead cockroach was found on the top of the microwave oven. 6. The highest rate of $230 but the worst experience of stay. Even a 3 yrs girl was charged extra $20. 与我们此行在新西兰住过的所有3-3.5星酒店相比，这家“5星级”酒店给我们的感觉最差。1、由于retreat是锥形屋顶，我们又住在楼上，- 我们每人都多次被碰头。更糟的是垃圾桶的上面悬挂着微波炉，当我扔完垃圾接着在橱柜取碗的时候，头被微波炉- 的角碰破了。2、厨房设备和厨具很少，没烤炉，电炉和微波炉功率太小，锅太少，做了汤没有汤勺，洗碗没有洗- 碗布。卫生间没有吹风机。3、当天适逢高温，retreat顶楼又闷又热，风扇根本不管用。4、热水供应很- 不足，我们5人洗澡洗到第3人就没热水了，还责怪说一定是有人用热水太多，其实我们洗澡前只是洗碗用了些热- 水。5、冰箱里有一股强烈的鱼腥味，多士炉里的大量残渣也没及时清理，当我取下多士炉时，在微波炉顶上发现- 一只死蟑螂。6、房价太贵，3岁的小孙女还要加$20，$230的房价是我们在小兰兰住过的8家酒店中最贵- 的，感受却是最差的。

房间非常不错，是家庭式的旅店，女房主还送了亲手作的蜂蜜饼干，非常好吃。
