Just 400 metres from the Northern Wairoa River, Hobson's Choice Motel offers studios and apartments with a kitchenette and outdoor patio. Surrounded by sub-tropical gardens, it has an outdoor swimming pool and free parking. Equipped with a fan, all studios and apartments have a satellite TV, microwave and ironing facilities. Tea/coffee making facilities and a fridge are included. Private bathrooms come with either shower facilities or a bathtub. Hobson's Choice Motel is a 15-minute walk from Dargaville Town Centre. Whangarei Airport, Waipoua Forest, Maunganui Bluff and Kai Iwi Lakes are all within an hour's drive away. Auckland is a 2-hour, 30-minute drive away. Guests can arrange day trips at the tour desk, or request for laundry services. The motel also provides fax and photocopying facilities. A daily Continental of full English breakfast can be delivered to the room. Portable barbecue pits are also available. Alternatively, there are cafes and bars within a 15-minute walk away. Decent shower with good hot water and good water pressure. Below average service. Booked thru internet. Didn't know what kind of room I had booked. Room was not heated - freezing day and heater not turned on and windows open on our arrival at 6.30pm. Portable heater supplied but was like a spotlight that could land a plane. Could not sleep with it being so bright. Hence no heating at all. A cheap thermostatic heater was all they needed to do. Would not recommend them for winter. Price was too expensive for facilities provided. Paid $175.00 and it was more like a $100.00 room. Have stayed with them before twice in the summer - with children and it was much better. Not much choice in Dargaville for Motels. Nothing really modern. Stayed at Sunset Lodge in Bayleys Beach for 2nd night - was modern and lovely views.

Very spacious room with friendly staff. Nice clean room and everything we needed at hand. Shower was lovely! Room was quite cold, we think heating might need updating. The tv channels were a bit confusing, maybe a list of channels in the Information folder would be helpful.

They had a unit that was able to accommodate 7 people which suited our needs. They were nice and friendly.

The room was large and well equipped and the bathroom was decent. The owners seemed disinterested in having guests and were very uncommunicative and not very friendly. Bed was very soft--we're used to a firmer mattress.
