Score from 712 reviews Excellent
Location in the downtown CBD close to good shopping and cafes and within walking distance to most attractions.
Sound on TV garbled, no one could fix in the three days we stayed there. No apology!
The general comfort and ambience of the hotel plus the excellent location in the heart of the city
Quiet and handy
The cost of price of room and food ,drinks etc for what you get way higher than anywhere we stayed in NZ and service at desk poor had to carry own bags to room would not recommend to friends.
Location in the central city should suit most visitors. The hotel has every thing that you would expect from a large city hotel complex - nothing more, nothing less.
Stated there many times as it my employer's preferred hotel in Wellington. I always ask for a quiet room, with variable results. Last visit wasn't so great, with noise 'seeping' through a door that connected the next room - TV and telephone conversations I heard it all until about 1.00am - should had rung front desk.
Stayed at The James Cook on trips to Wellington for over 20 years.Always great.
It was conveniently located with good facilities - including a reasonable gym.
Negotiating the various lifts to get where you wanted to go was a challenge. Paid WiFi - in this day and age... Come on....
Very helpful staff and quality of the room
Could hear others showering early in the morning. The quality of room service food wasn't the greatest
all very helpful
The perfect location........I can drive straight off the motorway and straight to the door of the hotel, without getting mixed up in the "one-way traffic system" The hotel is perfectly located and configured that I can access all the amenities in the capital on foot.Should I need to get farther afield I use a hotel taxi........totally pain free......... The staff are delightful and little Bex, the chambermaid always goes out of her way to make our stay pleasant.
very good bed.
The view, the quietness and the locality and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Bathroom was a bit tired and there was no cutlery, plates etc in our room.....
Very central and quiet
Room was small and cramped and dingy BUT fine if only planning on sleeping in it.
like it's cleaned and good facility and availability. friendly staff and helpful.
bed was not really comfortable and room was abit hot overnight; the air cond kept awaken us with it's automatic thing, plus noises from other rooms
Comfort of accomodation. Close proximity to shopping centre and many sites of interest. Value of breakfast/dinner buffet. Valet parking
Cost of stay and parking just a bit on the high side.
1. the elevator access from Lamberton Quay 2. the view 3. central location
1. This hotel is 40 years old and it shows. The filthy windows distracted from the great view 2. better breakfasts in small cafes at half the price, cooked and served by staff who seem to like their work, unlike Mr. Miserable at the hotel 3. no safe in the room - this is a serious hassle involving lining up at the front desk to get my laptop into the hotel safe, and then lining up again at the end of the day to retrieve it 4. primitive internet connection - needed a complete log-in procedure with id, password and so on every time the computer wakes up or is turned on (I would appreciate getting a hook-up that I can forget for the duration of my stay)
Value for money and location
Just a bit tired now but that's probably reflected in the rate. But overall still ok.
Adequate - just...
Everything about the hotel was excellent
The staff were extremely helpful and polite. Deffinatly made the experience much better and the cleaning staff were very polite also!
We stayed on level 26 and none of our group of friends swiper cards could get us in to the club lounge. We occupied 4 rooms and no cards would work. But other than that that experience was great!!!
Showers are way too low Breakfast was way too expensive for what it was
