Overlooking the magnificent Marlborough Sounds, Fat Cod Backpackers is just 150 metres from the Picton Ferry Terminal. Guests enjoy free breakfast, free hot soup in the evening and 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi per day. The hostel is a 2-minute walk from restaurants, cafes and bars. Fat Cod Backpackers is a comfortable, budget friendly and convenient base offering easy access to buses, train and the town wharf. There is an outdoor dining area with BBQ facilities and you can play billiards in the guest lounge. Other facilities include a guest laundry, a fully equipped kitchen and free coffee, tea and sugar. There is also free use of blankets, mountain bikes and fishing gear. Good facilities and friendly staff who explained how things worked well. Handy location and nice pub next door who also were very friendly and helpful. Good kitchen and free soup was also nice. Good lounge area. The step down into toilet area which, if all the lights were off, would be dark and they have obviously suffered water damage, so it is hard to tell whether they are entirely clean or not. Radio playing downstairs all the time was annoying as it made it hard to hear the TV in the upstairs lounge as well.

For the price we paid, we couldn't ask for anything more. We got a bed and a roof over our heads. The staff were friendly. The nightly rate is extremely fair for what you get.

Ubicación excelente, desayuno con pan casero y el servicio de la mañana excelente (no se puede decir lo mismo del de la noche). Descuidado, la sabana tenía una mancha sospechosa y el lavabo dejaba que desear.

Close to station & ferry. The fact that the stated distance of 150mts. Was at least 300mts & no directions. We arrived in the dark.

Lage in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Fähre und zum Bahnhof, wenn man mit der Bahn reisen möchte. Leider war der Bahnhof zu allererst ein Rangierbahnhof für die Güterwagen der Fähre. Es war sehr laut bis nachts um 22 Uhr und begann schon wieder in den frühen Morgenstunden.
