Loved the electric mattress pads! Kept us toasty warm on the cold nights. The hotel does not go by the name Riccarton Village Inn anymore. It is now an Ashley Hotel. When trying to get transportation to hotel we were lucky to find someone who knew they had changed ownership. The hotel should update their reservation companies to the name change, as well as future customers. Bathrooms could use an update. There is construction going on (restaurant is closed) but it did not affect our comfort.

Helpful staff even though upgrades going on. convenient location- near bus stops, train station, Westfield, eateries. I gather renovations are on the way..was a little "rundown" and was only chosen as our first booking was no longer available due to the earthquake and this was found on an internet deal as a very cheap and convenient alternative.

The Riccarton Village Inn was still a construction site with workmen still in the process of repairs. Tv reception was very poor. This should have been notified in the booking.

Close to amenities. Room is cleaned everyday. Facilities are good and well-maintained - even it was under renovation when we stayed there. Internet access at a poor 50mb quota. Seriously, for a week? Hardly used it for few hours and already reached the quota.

Convenient to get bus just outside the church from and to the airport. And easy acess to Westfield Shopping Centre even though the other part of the city shopping is closed due to the recent earthquake. Too early check out, should allow at least till 12pm.

That I survived a 5 degree earthquake, that rocked the building whcih remained standing and I got back to Austrlia to tell the tale. The design of the building withstood the eartquake, although I felt the shock and noise of falling debri which woke me in the night. The building continued to shake and part of the bedroom wall swayed towards me and left me very frightened and scared. I watched the wall go back to its position as the sway slowed down and the shaking stopped. I understand that this building must be a prefabricated building for the manner in which it moved. No one said anything to me or came to me. I was alone and so scared, but I expect everyone else was too. No staff said anything to me, the following day, and I had to draw there attention to the fact that there had been an earthquake during the night. I felt there could have been more support and follow up after the earthquake, though the staff were all very polite.

Good place to stay after the earthquake as all the surrounding services were working. Nice to be able to park outside the room. Staff were good and receptive. I already filled in a comment form for the hotel but four things are a problem with the facilities for anyone who wants to work:the internet WiFi connection was very slow and erratic, the chair is the wrong height to use the desk, the lighting is appalling for using the desk and the fridge was so noisy I had to unplug it at night.

The staff are friendly and helpful. I was there when it was very late at night. Still, I found the message that allowed me to get into the room. The room is clean and comfortable. There are ample parking spaces. So, it is good for the travelers who plan to drive car in Christchurch or go somewhere else. Unfortunately, the free internet connection didn't work for my laptop. The room temperature was too cold for me despite the usage of the heater. ( I am from a very hot country.)

Having a bath was a nice surprise, we didnt expect that at all. Hotel was alot noiser than we expected and having 2 power points to serve 3 appliances (tv, fridge and kettle) proved annoying.
