Excellent,
Score from 87 reviews
“ This is a very charming hotel, conveniently located in centre of Napier. It has the advantages of a small hotel, it is efficiently run, the staff are uniformly friendly, and the food is excellent. I have stayed in several colonial-era hotels - a type that I like - and this is a very fine example. Highly recommended, and good value for money. ”

-great location, very stylish, beautiful building and room, friendly atmosphere. - Good value for money. - Bottle of great homemade vine provided in common library for quests - great character of a place - very happy with the stay - wireless internet bit slow and not covering every room - not really 5-star standard (but also not 5-star price:). But definitely 5-star character

The ambience of the building, the location and the friendly welcome. Our room for the second night was lovely and quiet and comfortable, if a little cramped as it was a standard not a deluxe room. No other deluxe rooms were available. Our stay at this hotel was marred by an extremely noisy air conditioner unit outside our room on the first night that turned on and off all night and was so loud that sleep was impossible, even with windows shut and curtains drawn. We were told the air conditioner was being fixed and I certainly hope so for the sake of other travellers. I would recommend checking before you book as it was a wretched first night for us and no one on the desk to help after hours.

Full of character. Personal touches, such as personal letters of welcome and morning weather forecast. Pre-bedtime port in the library. The ex-royal car in the carpark.

Loved the Hotel but was soured by the simple thing of Housekeeping throwing out my shampoo and conditioner and I have to think that perhaps they weren't thrown out but taken home by someone. I left my expensive shampoo and conditioner in the shower and contacted the Hotel the day I checked out to be told that they had been thrown out in the rubbish. I travel a lot and stay in Hotel accommodation and have always been able to locate any thing that I have left behind from housekeeping This was two full containers and was expensive shampoo and conditioner. I feel I was accommodating as I had booked an evening too early and agreed to pay and use it in the future but am having second thoughts now about the honesty of your organisation.

The restoration of the building. The hotel does not have the style of a 5 star hotel. Informal kiwi friendliness is not enough, because we get that everywhere. The staff need to go to European and Asian 5 star hotels to see what is expected and delivered elsewhere.

Nothing really The poor service in the restaurant. The appalling meal that was out of sync with a so called 5 star hotel and the complete lack of attention by some of the staff. The food did not deserve to be served in such a place. I would never recommend that anyone stay or eat there.

Rooms were well appointed and comfortable. Hotel had all facilities expected of a hotel at the tariff rate. Staff were friendly and courteous. Nice extra was the morning letter delivered to the room advising of daily events in the city and forecast weather. No complaints whatever.

We loved the old fashioned charm and history of the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. It is an easy, close walk to shopping, restaurants or a walk on the beach from the hotel. We had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. Although the food was tasty, the service was very slow, seemed disorganized and the food was very expensive for what you got. I do think a complimentary bottle of water could be left in the room, instead of charging several dollars for one left there.

Charming old building, great location. This hotel advertise itself as a 5 star hotel which it definitely isn'T. Nothing majorly wrong with it, but if you expect 5 stars you'll get disappointed. Stuff like no phone in the room, no entertainment system and no windows except the one in the bathroom.

The hotel was quite lovely. Very clean. Authentically restored. The host did try to make amends for the noisy plumbing which we appreciated. As we had booked through you we were given the smallest (worst) room they had. (They confirmed this.). Evidently you take a large percentage of the fee. We would therefore ask why they use you at all. The room was very small and the plumbing was noisy. also the tiny ensuite was no more than a cupboard and it was embarrassing to use the facilities when the other person was in the room. We will be reluctant to use your booking service again as a result of this.
