Large, comfortable bedrooms. Excellent food in the restaurant and a great Maitre D.
The staff are so friendly and helpful. Unlike many hotels in NZ customer service is clearly very important to the owner and staff of The County Hotel. It is also a beautiful building with some lovely features. It lives up to its star rating which so many hotels I've stayed in in NZ and Australia don't do.
I liked that we stayed somewhere that suited the art deco style of Napier.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice touches like the help yourself port in the library! I would recommend this hotel.
Very comfortable bed
The ambience was flawlessly matched by quality service and comfort
There was nothing not to like about this experience.
Location very good Staff very friendly
Noise between rooms Some poor maintenance within the room Darkness of the room Breakfast was very average
Restaurant is also very expensive but the quality of food and wine is horrible, service was ok
Full of character. The place to stay in Napier
The naturally libel staff They were just right and all very pleasant and heloful
We book at the County because we wanted air conditioning - we were amazed to find out when you turn the light off the air con went off - it was hot so we opened windows and both nights were woken by drunks who kept us awake for over an hour - we were really tired when we headed home
We had a lovely dinner and drinks in the Churchill Bar
The relaxing atmosphere and the excellent service. The location of the hotel is also great only a short stroll from Marine parade. Dinner was the best bar meal I have ever had follwed by an evening walk along the foreshore.
Only staying one night
Location, staff, sympathetic renovation of building.
They offer their guests free port in their library. That kind of says it all. One of the best sleeps I had in NZ.
Beautifully, lovingly restored to Edwardian/Deco splender. Friendliness of staff is trademark Napier/NZ and made us most welcome. Great food in on-site restaurant with excellent NZ wine list. We loved this hotel and can't wait for our next stay.
Friendly & helpful staff. Food was fantastic.
Old world charm, courtesy of all staff, excellent location
Everything except -
Beautiful art-deco building, friendly staff, comfortable room (with airco). Great breakfast.
In our room we had no acces to Wifi, but lobby and library were great places to sit, so we considered this a minor.
From the moment we walked in the door it was a pleasure. This old building has been refurbished in original timbers etc and is a credit to its owners. John the duty manager who greeted us was very friendly and was great at sharing his knowledge on the building and what it has to offer. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very obliging. Even though we arrived later in the evening both the dining room and the bar was available to us for dinner. We choose the bar and snug area where we were served by a lovely young women - I think her name was Maddy - but I’m not sure. She has excellent wine knowledge and was more than happy to offer suggestions of things to do the following day. The food was excellent as John had said it would be. On our way back up to our delightful room we stopped into the library to have our glass of complimentary port – what a nice touch. The following morning we were lucky enough to have Maddy serving us breakfast and again the food was yummy. We certainly will be telling others to stay here and I can’t wait till we get to return…next time for more than one night.
That we were only there for one night.
Atmosphere, restaurant, bar, staff - in face everything
Nothing, couldn't fault it
Well located and a classic building done well. Staff were excellent and we enjoyed the class of the in-house restaurant. Fits nicely into the Napier deco experience.
the overall atmosphere was charming with fascinating historical information every where you looked, food and service was excellent. After a drink in the quaint Churchill bar and a lovely meal in the dinning room it was then delightful to retire to the library for complimentary port followed by a restful sleep.
Our stay was to short and we were sorry to leave it is actually hard to fault as it is so different from your run of the mill hotels it just leaves you with a lasting positive feeling again hard to fault.
The character of the hotel interior was in keeping with the exterior design, the staff were friendly and courteous at all times.
The quality of the restaurant food was not quite up to the expected standard of the hotel
Nice feel about the place great vibes and friendly helpful staff. Will be back
