In a country where so many of the accommodations are very modern, this hotel was so luxurious! Great value. So fitting for a town like Napier! Great location to downtown and waterfront! The architecture is breathtaking, with a million little details that bring you back in time. We had a private balcony that was awesome and the bar downstairs opened to the street where you could enjoy a drink outside. Wish I could remember the name of the precious brunette at the front desk....she was absolutely efficient, so friendly, and just adorable! It was an experience, not a hotel stay!
Didn't love the restaurant which had just gotten a new chef and was using the old menu for the last night. Maybe when he started cooking his own signature dishes the food got better.
Wifi was free. Staff were friendly and relaxed Fabulous location Complementary port in the library was a nice touch!
Staff were very friendly, the manager made a point of welcoming us, that was a lovely touch. The room was beautiful, very comfy and tasteful. The location was superb and car parking directly opposite the hotel. Lovely hotel with lovely, friendly and helpful staff, as we say in Scotland, disnea get much better than that... Would definitely book again if staying over in Napier next time we visit NZ.
The careful mixture of history and modern facilities. Friendliness of staff. Good food. Excellent value for money especially with it including breakfast.
Our only criticisim was that the TV didn't work properly and our neighbours in the next room had a very long shower (at least an hour) which we could hear
Location, bar & restaurant, staff, comfort. A real classy hotel in a beautiful place on the coast.
This is a superb, classy hotel in the old style. It is gracious, charming and comfortable. The staff are exceptional and the service and food first class. Just wish we could have stayed longer.
Nothing to dislike.
Staff, staff, staff. Multiple types of fresh fruit free in the lobby. The location was in the center of the Art Deco district and 2 blocks from the beach.
Nothing about the hotel. A quiet downtown. It was hard to find an early morning coffee and breakfast(6-7am).
I loved the quaint old style of the place and the location to my conferance was ideal. The staff are great and Karl is tops with his recomendation of wines and food, all round a very enjoyable experience and if we are in town again I am sure to book again. The Sherry in the library was such a good touch.
I did not like having to go home so soon.
2 night stay and was perfect. Would visit again. Lively old time charm and service.
The staff were very informative and friendly. The room was neat and very comfortable and the library on the 1st floor was fantastic. It came with glasses and port / sherry plus great books. I learnt so much about the "Originals" (who became the "All Blacks") from the Memories range of soft cover books on the tables. A big hit!
The Wi-Fi was very poor in my room and, as a business person, I felt it should have been taken into consideration when a room was allocated.
Wonderful character hotel Food was outstanding Staff very friendly Lots of little touches which made it a perfect stay
The style and décor made a theme for the stay. The breakfast we chose to have was nice. Free port in the extensive library and fresh fruit in the foyer all a good touch.
The selling point that everyone comes for the dinner setting.
All aspects of our stay were prefect
We could not stay longer
The little things count! A library! Fresh fruit in the foyer. A glass of port in that library. Interesting magazines, a letter advising the weather for the day!
Very friendly staff, great food
Location Service Old world charm Ambience
Location, and homely touches ,like port in the library
A bit tired , but good value send will return
Breakfast and the luxury of the room
the lady at office was brilliant .. thats where it starts, the rest took care of itself. a dream !!
Everything was perfect :). We spent in the hotel 2 nights. My favorite place in the evening was library with delicious porto :). Breakfast was very good. Dinner in hotel's restaurant was awesome but quite expensive:)
A comfortable hotel in an interesting town.
The hotel was unique with real character. It was quiet, comfortable, served great food, great central location and good facilities. And had excellent, attentive, happy staff. And they provided lots of lovely little surprising touches. Not to be mentioned here. Discover them for yourself. I wouldn't stay anywhere else even if it was free.
Having to leave after too short a stay
Shower temperature and pressure variable
Great staff, excellent food, interesting history
