Cost of wifi. Room a bit smelly.
Wifi is not free The kitchen is small
We've stayed for two nights. We felt comfortable, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Location ist lovely, the downstairs cafe's breakfast was amazing.
nothing special just a place for sleep, but good price if you need a double room
The staff were all friendly. I've stayed at the sadema, the randezvous, and the elms. The staff at the YMCA were by far friendlier. There was a relaxed atmosphere shared by all ages and demographics. And to be located across the street from the gardens and museum... Wow! Four and a half stars for the money.
Construction, not being allowed on the rooms viranda do to painting. But it has to be done. Not having time to stay longer.
There is a good Robert Harris cafe and a restaurant (Duo) actually in the building. Staff, especially the night porters are extremely pleasant and helpful. Went for a walk in the nearby Botanical Gardens which were STUNNING.
I got woken a few times by noise from other clients or the cleaners in the mornings. There is no clock in the rooms so I had to wake up, turn on the light and check my cellphone to see what the time was. Both times I have stayed there lately you haven't been able to use the balconies because of the earthquake repairs.
Good location, very near to the botanical garden! Warm blankets are provided to keep warm. Free parking which just behind the building. Clean rooms and plenty bathrooms to share.
Messy, crowded and low hygiene kitchen. Equipments are not labelled, residents couldn't have same idea to keep them clean and tidy.
Location, comfort and tv room
The kitchen is small and not free wire less
The room, and service were good.
The noise from neighbouring rooms. The continuous slamming of doors from the rooms adjacent until late at night.
Great location close to gallery, city centre and botanical gardens. Close to bus stop to Airport and tram stop. Helpful and knowledgeable staff modern clean facility's.
Not being able to buy a cup of coffee at the YMCA or in this city area before 7am.
Noisy residents, small kitchen
I went for a shower and the water decided do turn to boiling point and I couldn't even get my hand across to turn it off, the shower door was also stuck so couldn't open it to get out quick so as a result I got burnt on my back. beds are too soft and my back is killing me since I stayed there. never again stay there. also over priced
The many toilets that were available (never had to wait to use one)! Location was close to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum and pick up point for Nakedbus and Atomic Shuttle.
Stayed in the 6 bed female dorm which only had 2 power points! It was quite troublesome whenever I wanted to charge my electronics as the plugs were almost always full. No night light in the dorms - this meant that we'd have to switch on the lights of the entire dorm and possibly disrupt the sleep of others. A bit of a walk from the nearest supermarket and mini mart.
Location, close to grocery (15 minute walk), close to Re-Start Mall and the Quake Exhibit, close to Botanical Gardens (across the street), shared a lobby with a restaurant and coffee shop on either side. Free parking
Kitchen was small. Painting and crack repair going on, so building was surrounded by scaffolding.
Comfy, warm bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location.
Very basic, a picture in the room would be a bonus! Just to make it feel a bit more homely.
coffee place and bar in the same building! 10 minutes walk to the cite centre & shopping, and right by the botanic garden & museum, spot on location!
the bathroom and kitchen were messy despite warning (but then you sometimes get that in a hostel) - people can be such pigs!
The utensils provided for cooking
No reduced payment for weekly stay
I like the cleanness in general and the friendly and helpful staff
The 10 beds room's bed are very uncomfortable. But then I stay in a 4 beds room and the bed where very comfortable but really noisy. Also the pillows where too flat and not thick enough so I had to take an extra one from another bed.
Front desk staff were great and helpful. Facility was clean
The restaurant and cafe were both terrible. The restaurant served food that was off and when I asked for a refund they refused and were rude. The cafe served raw eggs which is a health code violation and could have made me sick.
Location absolutely excellent, next to Botanic Garden and very near to walk to the town centre.
The facility of water supply is absolutely poor for travelling in winter. One can only open water tube either cold or hot, but cannot average the temperature desired, so cannot bath in winter if one cannot bear the coldness, or the hotness ;)
Location is good
bed is not good
nice staff, but my reservation was wrong via internet booking, told I would be able to have early access between 7am 8am as was coming from Melbourne arriving CHCH at 5am in morning. When arrived at 8am was told room not ready till 2pm! Luckily my mother was staying there also so bunked in with her cancelled my appointment....later heard she paid extra for having me in her room and then also charged me $20 for canceling booking.....not happy but not ready to debate with arriving to NZ after four hour flight and coming too CHCH to be with my ill father.
hot water was too hot, yes was a warning but once set temperture jumped in to shower at set temperture all fine , but on leaving shower turned off position but boiling water position and panicked to get out being a slide door was harder I got nasty burn over back leg, spend over fourth minutes in cold shower too ease pain!! The warning re extreme hot water was back of bathroom door which I did not notice until I escaped the boiling shower :( this being too late!!!!
Nice tidy room. Comfy bed. Close to gardens. Deals for guests in the restaurant were great (with out is too pricy).
Not enough plugs. Bathroom was dirty (shared bathroom so this was expected). Toilet wouldn't flush properly.
great location cleanness kitchen facility restaurant
acoustic quality but tolerable
