Surrounded by the high sand dunes of Oman’s desert, the eco-friendly Retreat Camp in Sharqiya provides authentic, Arabian-style accommodation in tents. It offers camel rides and tours to nearby locations. Situated in Wahiba sands, all tents are made of natural goat hair. Each has a private, open-to-the-sky bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower. Guests staying at the Desert Retreat Camp can enjoy Arabian food and barbeque every night. After a meal, you can listen to the traditional Arabian music or gaze at the starry sky over the camp. Desert Retreat staff can organise a visit to Beduoin settlements as well as Wadi Bani Khalid, a nearby valley. Guests can also enjoy dune bashing, a popular way to explore sand dunes in off-road vehicles. Luxury tents: 16 The most recent booking for this hotel was made on May 22 at 06:18 from United Kingdom.

This was a wonderful get-away place! Humaid (owner/manager) was very well spoken, kind, and accommodating. I loved the dune bashing and camel ride as well as the food, atmosphere, and quietness/calmness that the place created. I highly recommend to anyone. There are other camps in the area that are larger, but I don't think they have the same 1:1 that Desert Retreat does. If you are a solo traveler, it may be advantageous to ask Humaid before booking what days other people will be there. Thankfully there was a lovely family there with me; however, had I been there alone, it may be quite lonely. It gets uber dark at night, so some might "freak" out a bit. I'm glad I was there with a family.

THE CAMP IS NOT REACHABLE BY SALOON CAR AND YOU HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER 25 RO FOR TRANSPORT. NOT MENTIONED AT BOOKING.COM Rustical style - everything is simple but nice Dinner - we enjoy it Everything is pretty clear For this price I would expect much more than nice accommodation and fine half board. E.g. 1) There ware no communication in advance e.g.: - That camp has office it the close village and we should do check-in there - That camp is reachable only by 4WD car - That we have to pay 50 Euro for transport 2) Pay is possible only by cash 3) No hot water for shower 4) Lack of information about stay in camp (electricity is switched of at 8p.m.), when is check-out etc.

A relatively easy way to spend a night on the edge of total wilderness. camel rides were good and the host is friendly and knowledgeable. no footwear to get from tent to bathroom, no info on how to make the most of facilities eg when the electricity is on to heat water, how to operate lighting. no private seating area.

Very good organized, very friendly staff, we absolutely felt at home, after a pleasant welcome with dates and fruit. The owner is a very decent and very relaxed person and informs you about all aspects of the Oman culture and its values. All you need in the desert was available and all arrangements were perfectly kept.We certainly recommend it.

The peace and quiet. Pure relaxation. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner met us and guided us to the camp. The drive over flat sand was great and within anyone's ability to manage. A camp fire after dinner with coffe and tea was a great way to close the day.

We had a unique experience at the camp. The owner Humaid Alhajri is an very good host and you feel very welcome. All the meals are very tastefull and liked both by children and adults. The desert is a must-do in Oman and for us one of the greatest experince. We liked it all although we found the camel ride quite high priced.

Sensitively developed, very quiet, no noisy entertainment, just the silence of the desert. Charming authentic tents, excellent bathrooms. The taste of the owner and manager, his feeling for the environment and his vision have created an exceptional camp. A very thoughtful man, we very much enjoyed talking with him. Go there before it books out!! Catering out there presents its difficulties: food could be improved. But that 's a minor flaw in a remarkable experience!

Wonderfull and really quite place! It is not big, what is nice. Friendly feeling.... Really very clean! (w. respect to this conditions/place, of course) In spacious tent is el.light at disposal and 2 beds. There are mattings on the floor. That is all... (No any wardrobes) Open roof europeian style water- toilet with washbasin and shower (w. boiler) is extra for each tent at disposal and is really clean. Tasty arabian halfboard. Camel riding and 4wheel car dunes riding is at disposal - for extra costs. But fully recomended! :-) Mobile phone signal available. (unfortunatelly?) Payment in cash only! Little bit overpriced - but it is paid off!

We like all. I'ts a magic and great place. The ownwer (Humaid Alhajri) is a lovely man, we appreciate a lot that he makes all the efforts possible for the comfort of the customers. A camp the we recommend 100%. It could have one more blanket, because the night is very cold.

The location and tents Management ask to be payed in cash without receipt and refused credit card. Organisation of a camel trip is a problem: staff pushing to wake up early, not flexible in terms of timing. No hot water. No toilet paper.

To stay in a Bedouinshelter in the desert The electrcal lighting was switched off at 20.00 hr in the evening. The generator was making to much noise was the reason. It liks me better to purchage a generator with less noise than to find your bed in the darkness. We would like to have in such lokation an all-in price, because their is no alternative. Prices for food are reasonable.

Great camp in desert with all you need to enjoy the pure wild nature around you. You are in the typical beduin tent with sand around you and stars above you. Great plus a bathroom outside the tent with open roof :). The camp is kind of self-reflection to the personality of his owner: Humaid good luck and keep on improving your camp to eco-friendly desert oasis ;)

Great location. 20 km off main road but accessible by easy 4x4 driving. Very nice welcome. Owner and staff very friendly and good additional activities (dune bashing, camel rides at the time and pace we wanted). Next to a huge dune excellent for climbing. Private toilets. Dinner erratic (first batch chicken burnt - 2nd delicious), no dessert and expensive. Generator never worked which while not their fault could have been handled better (a simple sorry - maybe a few rials off?). Charged full price for ride back and forth to camp even though shared with another guest. Both of our tents did not close. Owner explained a hand-made error but there should still be a remedy (make an additional flap). My biggest complant was the lack of atmosphere at dinner = no music like a simple drummer and singer.

As simple as amazing, desert retreat camp makes you experience the real life in the desert, but at the same time you have everything you need. The staff is very friendly and the owner humaid is a very very helpful and patient host who will make everything to make his guests happy. / semplicita' e cortesia caratterizzano il desert retreat camp, dove si puo' assaporare l'atmosfera da mille ed una notte. Lo staff e' molto disponibile e sempre attento a soddisfare qualsiasi esigenza.

This was an absolutely fantastic location, right in the middle of the desert. It was some 20Kms in over dunes, past camels and beyond the towns. Firstly arrive by 4x4 over massive sand dunes, then welcomed in traditional Bedouin tents, then climb sand dunes, watch sunsets, followed by a whole host of other pleasant surprises, good food and attentive staff catering - which I want tell not to spoil your treat when you get there. I fully recommend this Camp. It was a really original setting, not too plush or phoney in any way and which you would never forget nor ever regret visiting. Staff were great and helpful too. The costs soon added up to make this quite pricey. Meal, plus car in from the nearest town. However the cost was nothing compared to the quality of the experience. I'll never forget or regret any excess cost.
