The free breakfast was great and the cosmic crab dinners were good bec there was always fresh fish to eat.
Not much to explore, walked along side of island to see only garbage in the water, so sad!
Amazing environment, lovely views. The cosmic crab restaurant was delicious. They treated me really good. My room was so comfortable, so tidy, so clean. I really recommend this beautiful hotel.
Everything was perfect.
Very nice restaurant above water and cooled down by sea breeze. Very helpful personnel. Room lovely decorated.
Bungalows do not have openings allowing breeze to cool down the room... and thru the wall AC was barely blowing ambient air turning the room as a sauna. Neighborhood far from being clean and tidy!
Installations are good. The room was very comfortable, wide beds, hot water, children used the bunk bed. Crystal clear water welcomed everyone to have a splash. Service was up to the game and were nice to everyone. They have nice cocktails and drinks.
Gardens need a bit of work. They are not in harmony with the cabins. The bar needs some more ambient as when it is raining, there isn't much to do in the cabins. There is no TV in the rooms due to low signal from local channel networks, but this could be worked out by installing dishes. Upon arrival, I was told that my reservation price was incorrect ($357) and they wanted me to pay as much as $507 for it. We were 4 adults and 2 children under 10. After a brief chat with Joan, she agreed to honor the reservation and I was glad.
The Owners are very friendly, corteous and helpful. Proximity to Bocas Town yet away from the noise of the music at night in Bocas Town. Relaxing view.
Everything. Awesome food also.
The rooms over the water were clean with fresh paint. The fixtures in the bathroom were recently updated and the shower area was newly tiled. The food was very good and the prices were very reasonable. A good breakfast was included. Joan and Steve were great hosts and sent us to a couple of great places in Bocas town. The dinner we had was delicious, and by all other accounts their meals are great! Would stay here again but we will try a cabina that is on land as they are larger. The value for money was very good!
The only thing that I wasn't really happy about was our bed. I am a bit of a tosser and the bed creaked a lot and I found the foam mattress a bit soft. But when you are only staying 2 nights why complain!
I liked the service and the room I stayed which where over the sea. The food from the restaurant was great.
I did not like the sorruonding area of the hotel, looks like a Gueto.
really clean, great value for a family traveling, great food, cool resort on the water.
fan didnt blow hard in room (but you have an ac)
The hotel is very cute! The view is wonderfull! It is such a pleasure to have breakfast looking to the ocean. The breakfast tasted very good. All rooms have air conditioning. The taxi boats to the main island come very quickly and you can call them from the hotel phone, they only costs 1 dollar. I would certainly come back to these hotel!
The wooden floor outside the cabins is very slippery, be careful. The breakfast is only from 8:30 to 9:30, it should be longer. For a 4 star hotel i expected more confort, but the hotel doesnt have frigobar, they dobr change the sheets and towels every day, they only clean a little bit the room once a day.
The proximity to Bocas Town was good. The three dogs on the property were awesome
The bed was the worst I've ever had anywhere. Water taxi service to this side of Isla Carenero is poor. Tiny rooms over the water. Rain enters the room and you have a puddle. Knees hit the wall in front of you when using the bathroom (toilet). Bar closed at 8:30 on a Saturday even though there were 6 people wanting to order and two bartenders.
Joan and Steve were fantastic. They were very helpful and made us feel safe. The cottages were very charming, clean and you cant beat the view. They had a sunday brunch that was fantastic! And $1 beers during the day made it even better. We used the kayaks and it was so nice to explore the area away from the chaos of bocas town, which is a pit. Bring a pack of clove cigarettes along when you come and you can trade boat rides and other services for them.
The internet went in and out, but I think that is common in the whole country. It is a 3rd world country after all.
Me and my son (7 years) stayed four nights in Careening Cay Resort. We really enjoyed our stay. The location is great, near the main island but still nice and quiet. Both the owners and the staff are really friendly. Our little hut was small but very clean and newly painted. My son loved playing with the owner's very friendly dogs, and spent quite some time chasing after crabs in the garden. We had dinner in the hotel a couple of times, and the food was really good. I would really recommend this place for anyone traveling with younger children. We would love to come back.
The location is wonderful. If you rent a casita on the water, you open your door and you step onto the dock and looking out onto the water.
Owners dogs run free on the property. If you are a dog person, you wont mind. Otherwise, its a bit of a nuisance when the come up to you when you are sitting near your casita or try to swim with you.
The Careeing Cay Resort was an excelent choice since it' s just 5 minutes from the main island (Isla Colon) and you can easily get a boat during all day/night. Also the food and the drinks at the Cosmic Crab (the hotel bar) were great and had reasonable prices. Try the special seafood while watching the sunset. It will be memorable!!! The owners Joan and Stephen were very kind and helpull. The cabins were cleaned every day. The hotel also offers free kayaks for you to paddle around Carenero Island. I can't wait to come back to this hotel.
Nice houses on a great spot with views over the water and on bocas town. We had a recentently renovated basic cabin. It was basic, but it was clean and everything you neef is in it.
What we loved the most is that you can be close to Bocas without being in the middle of the noice. Just 30 seconds away and for 1 dollar boat ride you can be surounded by nature and with a great view. The restaurant has a great bar, nice drinks, great attention and the best sundown in town.
Nothing. Just as a hint, buy some supplies in Bocas as there are not many shops in Carenero Island
Small family resort, clean and comfortable but with a Panama flair. Owners and staff were great, we stayed 8 nights. Our room was simple, clean and good to sleep in. For times other then sleeping, we had a great porch with rocking chairs or you could go up to the Bar/Restaurant have an excellent meal with generous drinks. The bar/restaurant is well situated to get a great breeze and if you are lucky a perfect sunset
I like the staff and owners and the view are excellent . No issues in that area.
I go there everytime I go to bocas so obviously I like the place so insted of saying what I don´t like ill use another word wish is what need improvements some rooms need improvement and upgrades. Beside that the place is fantastic.
The cabinas are nice. The Restaurant is okay. The Island is just perfect.
Unfortunately we had bedbugs in our Room.
i slept in the over sea rooms , the room is very cute. its amazing that your room is actually on the water, the place is very nice , and they have good breakfast ,the staff is nice and helpful.
the over sea rooms are very small its difficult for two people to mange there. the place is far from the main island and every time you want to get there you need a taxi boat (1 $ one way)
Wonderful to sit out and look over the sea outside your hut. Clean and comfortable, no bugs.
Noise at night from across the water.
The location was beautiful and the staff were friendly.
In the booking information the ad stated it was a 3 bedroom cottage. There was only 1 separate bedroom. The bathroom shower was full of mould.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Calmer, then the city across. Beaches around - I recommend Star fish beach - main Island and Red Frog - Bastimento. Both by water taxi. Great place for great food and for snorkeling - Blue coconut at Isla Solarte.
So glad I decided to book this despite some bad reviews. Some of the problems pointed out are just things that come with being on an island (bugs? It's nature). The place was a dream for me. My cabin was right above the water, super cute, and it had everything I needed. The wifi doesn't reach every room, but it works in the bar area, which was also sitting on the water, and an amazing place to hang out at. They have happy hour until 6pm, a simple but good free breakfast every morning, and an amazing brunch on Sundays. It was really nice to take boats ($1-$2) to go to the busy town, then go back to my own "island-home." I’ve been traveling for quite some time, and this was the most unique stay ever! They offer kayaks for free use, so that was a blast! The staff was super attentive. I watched them go above and beyond anytime there was any issue (things that weren't even their fault), and felt incredibly comfortable. I was sad to leave, and will never forget my stay here. Would definitely return.
