Our room didn't have any place to put our things except on the floor and two small book shelves. Toilet was not far enough from the wall. Our little room had only a small window to look at the ocean. Only seating were some wooden chairs on the dock or on the bed.
The owners and staff were great. The food was exceptional. They gave us great information. We enjoyed our stay despite the room's lack of amenities.
A bit of a walk to the beach and through the rubbish in the local village.
Lovely Caribbean first impressions with the Cosmic Cafe on the water at the point of arrival. Great welcome by owners and also Katherine and staff. Lovely wooden bungalows set in tropical garden. Great food at the Cafe.
no internet ,poor beds, very small rooms without so much as a chair,no privacy for toilets, smelly and lots of mould,.rates for meals higher than posted happy hour drinks lower priced ,but smaller portions
food was great
View in the Restaurant/ bar very great. Its on the water Kayaks to rent for free
Location, no WiFi in the rooms
Clean bedrooms and quieto place
Not a bad experience at all, but just want to say that Bookings.com needs to update the name of this place. It is NOT called 'Careening Cay' anymore. This led to confusion when we first arrived in Bocas del Toro, because nobody knew it by this name when we were trying to arrange a water taxi from Bocas town. The name of the place is now 'Cosmic Crab', which is easier for the local people to pronounce and easier for everyone to remember, as well as having a humorous touch Also, it was a rather complicated process to pay for accommodation with a credit card because we had to set up a Pay Pal account first, and the internet connection was slow at times.
Very laid-back atmosphere. Wonderful patio overlooking the water, with great drinks and food (recommend the coconut shrimp). Also quite a substantial breakfast every morning. Catherine, a friend of the owners who recently started working at Cosmic Crab, was very helpful and friendly, we really enjoyed chatting with her. "Junior", the bartender/server, and the young woman (whose name I've forgotten), were also very welcoming.
Slow service in resturant, forgetting orders, only american guests on resort
Nice location, specially the resturant, tastfull interior and garden,
It's definitely not comfortable enough for a longer and relaxing stay. During our five day stay we experienced service that was chaotic at times and extremely slow. Basic things like room cleaning needed reminding. If you are staying in the (very small!) cabins over the water, boat trafic can get very noisy at night.
The food at the on site restaurant ("Cosmic Crab") was very good. It's a fun place, if you want to hang around the bar and meet people for a couple of days.
The water cabins can be a little noisy with boats bumping into the dock.
The Cosmic Crab was awesome , as well as the owners and staff. Had a great time!
Le déjeuner est trop tard. 8h30
let people know about the chitras and to put on coco oil the minute they get there! other than that, amazing!
There is no door to the bathroom and the bungalows are very small, but thats why it is so cosy...
Nice bungalow over the water, good breakfast with a large variety. The restaurant (Cosmic crab) is really to be recommended - good food and drinks. Happy hour everyday until 6pm (beer 1$, mixed drinks 2$, magaritas 3$). Juan and Steve are very nice hosts!
Not much to explore, walked along side of island to see only garbage in the water, so sad!
The free breakfast was great and the cosmic crab dinners were good bec there was always fresh fish to eat.
Everything was perfect.
Amazing environment, lovely views. The cosmic crab restaurant was delicious. They treated me really good. My room was so comfortable, so tidy, so clean. I really recommend this beautiful hotel.
Bungalows do not have openings allowing breeze to cool down the room... and thru the wall AC was barely blowing ambient air turning the room as a sauna. Neighborhood far from being clean and tidy!
Very nice restaurant above water and cooled down by sea breeze. Very helpful personnel. Room lovely decorated.
Gardens need a bit of work. They are not in harmony with the cabins. The bar needs some more ambient as when it is raining, there isn't much to do in the cabins. There is no TV in the rooms due to low signal from local channel networks, but this could be worked out by installing dishes. Upon arrival, I was told that my reservation price was incorrect ($357) and they wanted me to pay as much as $507 for it. We were 4 adults and 2 children under 10. After a brief chat with Joan, she agreed to honor the reservation and I was glad.
Installations are good. The room was very comfortable, wide beds, hot water, children used the bunk bed. Crystal clear water welcomed everyone to have a splash. Service was up to the game and were nice to everyone. They have nice cocktails and drinks.
The Owners are very friendly, corteous and helpful. Proximity to Bocas Town yet away from the noise of the music at night in Bocas Town. Relaxing view.
Everything. Awesome food also.
The only thing that I wasn't really happy about was our bed. I am a bit of a tosser and the bed creaked a lot and I found the foam mattress a bit soft. But when you are only staying 2 nights why complain!
The rooms over the water were clean with fresh paint. The fixtures in the bathroom were recently updated and the shower area was newly tiled. The food was very good and the prices were very reasonable. A good breakfast was included. Joan and Steve were great hosts and sent us to a couple of great places in Bocas town. The dinner we had was delicious, and by all other accounts their meals are great! Would stay here again but we will try a cabina that is on land as they are larger. The value for money was very good!
I did not like the sorruonding area of the hotel, looks like a Gueto.
I liked the service and the room I stayed which where over the sea. The food from the restaurant was great.
fan didnt blow hard in room (but you have an ac)
really clean, great value for a family traveling, great food, cool resort on the water.
The wooden floor outside the cabins is very slippery, be careful. The breakfast is only from 8:30 to 9:30, it should be longer. For a 4 star hotel i expected more confort, but the hotel doesnt have frigobar, they dobr change the sheets and towels every day, they only clean a little bit the room once a day.
The hotel is very cute! The view is wonderfull! It is such a pleasure to have breakfast looking to the ocean. The breakfast tasted very good. All rooms have air conditioning. The taxi boats to the main island come very quickly and you can call them from the hotel phone, they only costs 1 dollar. I would certainly come back to these hotel!
The bed was the worst I've ever had anywhere. Water taxi service to this side of Isla Carenero is poor. Tiny rooms over the water. Rain enters the room and you have a puddle. Knees hit the wall in front of you when using the bathroom (toilet). Bar closed at 8:30 on a Saturday even though there were 6 people wanting to order and two bartenders.
The proximity to Bocas Town was good. The three dogs on the property were awesome
The internet went in and out, but I think that is common in the whole country. It is a 3rd world country after all.
Joan and Steve were fantastic. They were very helpful and made us feel safe. The cottages were very charming, clean and you cant beat the view. They had a sunday brunch that was fantastic! And $1 beers during the day made it even better. We used the kayaks and it was so nice to explore the area away from the chaos of bocas town, which is a pit. Bring a pack of clove cigarettes along when you come and you can trade boat rides and other services for them.
Me and my son (7 years) stayed four nights in Careening Cay Resort. We really enjoyed our stay. The location is great, near the main island but still nice and quiet. Both the owners and the staff are really friendly. Our little hut was small but very clean and newly painted. My son loved playing with the owner's very friendly dogs, and spent quite some time chasing after crabs in the garden. We had dinner in the hotel a couple of times, and the food was really good. I would really recommend this place for anyone traveling with younger children. We would love to come back.
