rooms very basic; thus over-priced food was fair at best and too expensive overcharged for each taxi service
The playful monkeys
Being gated in
nice garden with swimming pool, very relaxed jungle atmosphere with three monkees in a large separated part of the lodge, (not to play with), offer for a home made dinner in the evening (18 $ p.p. including main course, dessert and a drink (also wine)), tasted very good. All very clean, perfect for trips to Gamboa, Panama City, Colon.
They work hard to take care of you.
It's a bit hard to find.
Grounds were lovely! We stayed for two nights toward the end of our 12-day Panama trip, and literally spent the entire day reading and relaxing in the hammocks in the cabana, or by the pool, and visiting with the resident monkeys. Food was also excellent: generous home-cooked breakfast included in cost, and $18 for dinner was very reasonable (full dinner, one drink, dessert). Fabrice and Sabrine are very low-key hosts, who made us feel welcomed but not smothered.
Location is a bit tricky! Fabrice will arrange transport for you - just email him. We ended up taking the bus back to Panama City (a bit of a taxi mix-up!), so it's possible, but a bit of trek from the Lodge to the Metrobus terminal.
The trash on the roads.
The pool was cool and refreshing. The local monkeys in their enclosure, able to move freely.
Poor customer service (unanswered multiple phone calls for directions, no one available for service on occasions), inefficient signage (Too small), Felt marooned behind the locked gate. Pseudo French Food (We are foodies with a European background), althought the food was tasty (Chicken Curry, Sausage Cacciatori).
I really enjoyed the feel of the place. Very lush and relaxing!
Awesome family, great experience, the visit to the Canal with Max was something we will remember. And monkeys aplenty!
We should have stayed longer. I think this place should become more advertised/better known.
Setting is lovely, fabrice and sabrina are wonderful hosts, not to mention the monkeys! My child was accepted by all, was free to roam around, we were not bothered at all by anyone, guests were lovely too.
Perhaps a little expensive for a b&b. no cot, so bring a travel cot if you are with children. They accommodated us with a small bed, but my child rolled off it the first night! No shops nearby so bring snacks if you are with children.
We went out on private excursions to remote places. The people made my trip. The place was good, the people were great. If you like adventure, this is the place. The monkeys that they rescued were a bonus too.
Quiet, peaceful surroundings. Beautiful kept grounds.Fabrice and Sabrina and staff were so warm and friendly. Meeting very interesting other people at the lodge.
We rented a car and tried to drive in Panama and that was a disaster! Of course we didn't get a map or a GPS as there were none at the car rental. We are "mature" and did't have a smart phone with a GPS. Twice we rented a taxi to "Lead" us to our destination. We should have done more homework!
Great food, different hotel with optional excursions. Excellent accommodations and monkeys. Hosts are outstanding. Gay friendly
The monkey lodge is run by an extremely nice French family. They cook fresh meals and run excellent tours. We had a complicated schedule and also have dietary restrictions. They catered to both and make sure we were comfortable at all times. The property is gorgeous - includes a nice pool, lounge chairs, and hot coffee in the morning!
