Only 200 metres from Ollantaytambo's archaeological site, La Casa del Abuelo has comfortable rooms and a daily breakfast that includes eggs, orange juice, fruit salad, different types of coffee, bread...
Score from 427 reviews Excellent
Thin pillows. That's the only negative.
Great breakfast the second time we stayed after MP. Buffet style with eggs, fruit, cereal, juices, avocado, cheese, bread. Best breakfast during our three week Ecuador/Peru trip. If they continue that, this place is a no-brainer for the price.
No hot water. Poor wifi service.
Excellent helpful friendly staff. Good breakfast. Clean place to stay.
Great service, good value, great hostess's, quiet location, secure, safe facility. Would recommend!!
In a roon, ants spoiled my snacks...
Hot water is good. Staff will ready your breakfast if you request even when is not breakfast time. Near rail station. 10-15 mins by walking.
No hot water left at 08:00 in the morning, had to take a shower in cold water... Selection of breakfast at 08:00 was limited. Problems connecting to the wifi from the bedroom.
Close to the plaza and Inka site. 10 minutes walk to train station. Wifi was good, but had problems. Very helpful and kind staff. Basic room, but good space for suitcase etc.
The price felt outlandish for services rendered. The owners 7ish yr old son manned the desk at one point. Amazingly, he was far more interested in his toy than taking my key. The place is really in a nice location, but it was too expensive for what was offered. It is in serious needof refeurrefurbishing. Had it been half the price I would have welcomed it graciously. The way it was felt like I was being robbed.
I liked how close it was to peru rail - 10-15 min walk.
1. The shower was cold. After a 4 days trekking we would have loved a warm shower. 2. The pillows were way too soft and small and if you requested a second one you had to pay 3. The staff was not helping and frendly at all 4. The wi fi was not working in the rooms as promised in the description an in the hall was reallly poor but I thing this is normal in the zone 5. There were ants all arond in the room entering our backpaks
The Wi-Fi is so slow
Clean and cozy hotel.
Wi-fi is iffy
Staff Location Everything!
- friendly staff - good location - confortable
bathroom smelled like sewage, no hotwater, no wifi despite it being advertised, breakfast was borderline and only very short hours, eggs were out and cold, hallways dirty
the location was very central
Staff were fantastic, friendly and very helpful. Ideal location to go around Ollantaytambo and very convenient. Quiet at night which was very good for resting. Hot powerful shower which worked all the time.
The hotel didn't have an electric heater, although it provided many blankets. The wifi service only works on the stairs. They didn't provide enough towels, take your own. they don't provide shampoo or soap so take your own.
The location is great! Close to train station and close to plaza central. The room was spacious and clean, a bit cold. The staff was helpful as we asked for a hair dryer and they provided one. If you can stay a night in Ollantaytambo do so, is a beautiful charming town. We took the Sacred valley tour and stayed in Ollanta instead of returning to Cusco after visiting the Ollantaytambo ruins. If you plan to do so, do not access the ruins with the tour, is better if you go by your self to have more time to explore, so get your bags and check in, is so close (5 minute walk). The town is secure, I forgot my back pack on an outside table of a restaurant and went back 20 minutes later and it was still there!
location, simple but very clean, safe, staff was very nice, price was decent, I would stay longer, town was lovely and tons of restaurants and shops.Locals are very friendly and respectful.
Ants in room at times. Hot water inconsistent. My kid's room had enough all the time, whereas ours was sporadic and short-lived. And we had adjacent rooms!
Friendly, helpful staff. Arranged excellent taxi transport from and back to Cusco, with plenty of sight-seeing stops along the way. Staff promptly answered pre-trip emails about all arrangements. Good location, middle of town. Quiet rooms, except for what sounded like a blues club which could be heard throughout town. Fortunately the music didn't last until too late in the evening. Extra blankets on demand. Kept our bags safe after check-out while we stayed in town. Great breakfast. Overall, a great value and would recommend.
Hot water was hit or miss. Our children in the room next to us had enough hot water for both to shower. My husband and I had not a drop on the first or second night. The morning of the second day, we had enough for both of us to make it through very quick showers, while our children next door had another nice long, hot shower. Seems to be pretty typical of Peru.
Great location, good breakfast, comfortable rooms. Able to get extra blankets on request, but no heater. They kept our bags safely for us after check-out time, since we were staying in the town until late afternoon.Staff was great. They arranged a taxi to pick us up from the Cusco airport and take us on a tour to various places on the way to Ollantaytambo. They also arranged the same when we left to go back to Cusco. Th taxi driver was very safe and professional, and stopped wherever we wanted. This in itself was a good value for a family.
Everything was awful: it was extremely cold - we couldn't normally sleep; no hot water in shower, disgusting breakfast and no wifi in the room.
Had to pay in cash as computer system was down. Breakfast started at 7:30 AM which was too late as we had an early train. No TV in the rooms.
Quiet and interesting with some great views from the rooms. Rooms were cheerful, comfortable and clean. Away from the main road which contributed to the calm and quiet.
The owners / staff are very helpful and nice. Hotel is 5 mins on foot from the train station & the ruins. Nice big and clean rooms, hot shower. Great breakfast.
Wifi didn't work for the whole stay - the signal from several routers could be found but no one could actually connect, despite turning routers off and on again. Water was cold for whole stay, tested it in afternoon, evening and morning and at best was warm for about 2 minutes. Staff on reception was nice enough but not particularly helpful in answering questions or giving information. There were ants in the bathroom.
As with most accommodations in this town, location is 1 minute from the plaza and ruins, which is great.
Iffy wifi - internet connection sometimes lost. Low signal inside rooms.
Nice inner garden ... Heavy-duty blankets (must be really cold in winter!)
the personnel did not speak English, but they tried to be as helpful as possible.
The place was really clean and comfortable. We had a nice wide room with beautiful bathroom. The hotel is located almost in the center but not too much that we had privacy. The bed were comfortable and we could sleep really well in there and came out well rested. Also a big plus of this hotel for me is the location - I mean the place Ollantaytambo - one of my favorite places where I would love to return.
Clean rooms, nice view of the mountains, located a 10 minutes walk from the train station (good to know if you have early morning connection with the Machu Picchu train) and 5 minutes walk from Ollantaytambo site and souvenir market.
Poor internet in the room. Hot water is not consistent.
It is a good place for staying if you want to visit Ollantaytambo ruin. Walkable distance to Ollantaytambo rail station, the ruin and city center. Great breakfast!
