Check in was difficult and rather confusing. Filled in the usual form, and then a money changer was brought in off the street, waving his calculator around us (presumably this was the hotel trying to be transparent about what we were being charged??) As far as I was concerned, we were paying what we'd booked on booking.com + any applicable taxes. I apologised to Receptionist #1 that I had limited Spanish and couldn't understand what she was asking me about payment. We asked (in our beginners Spanish) if we should pay in Soles or $. Eventually we asked them to write down what we owed in Soles, and we paid that amount. Turns out they included the 18% tax tourists are not supposed to pay, so I queried it and we got a refund. What upset us most was that after all that confusion, Receptionist #2 piped up in English. If only she'd engaged 10 minutes earlier, it would have been a much less frustrating check in experience. We stayed over New Years Eve, so can't blame the hotel for the noisy bar/club (JJ Chopp) across the street, but we didn't sleep a wink.
Comfy bed, hot shower, free shuttle to airport. Guys working the evening & night shift were friendly & helpful. Internet access in office suite. Complimentary welcome drink (though we didn't avail of it) is a nice touch. Overall, an oasis in the middle of Piura!
