Pretty much everything...a fabulous bungalow on the lagoon was definitely the way to go. Staff were friendly and helpful, with a good sense of humour. Check in and out was seamless - happy hour was fun and put cocktails at a more reasonable price. A nice touch to make the snorkel and canoeing free.

This is no budget break and I appreciate the cost of getting people and products to / from the island, but you do get the feeling it's Sofitel making the money not the locals.

Very friendly and helpful staff, gorgeous over-water bungalows, great snorkeling, good food, fantastic dive shop.

Leaving, although the staff gave us a great send-off.

location close to beach and lots of good restaurants. Food in the hotel will not dissapoint. Over water bungalow is roomy and comfortable, but ...

Hotel is run down. Needs a complete makeover. Our room didn't even close ! Locks and doors completely worn. Our over water bungalow had a private sundeck. One of the boards of sundeck gave away under my foot ! Wood had rotted away. This theme goes on evrywhere in the hotel. Of course the hotel is also expensive, just as anything in Bora Bora. But at least you expect some basic maintenance for your money. I cannot understand that a group like Sofitel let's this get out of hand so badly, because it obviously didn't happen overnight. It's an emberrassement really.

Laid back vibe and amazing views

The facilities, decor and amenities felt a bit tired and would benefit from a lick of paint.

Free wifi, very fast! Staff was welcoming from the start - Tania in reception was very helpful and everyone else followed suit, especially the beach staff! Beachfront Bungalow was beautifully kept and luxurious, well worth the splurge on this very expensive island. Great snorkeling from the beach and around over water bungalows. Free kayaks to explore lagoon. Excellent location within easy walk of many markets, restaurants, shops & Matira Beach!

Restaurant is very pricey, worth a splurge for one or two meals, but plenty of other restaurants/markets within 10 minute walk.

We stayed in a deluxe overwater bungalow (#50) that was one of the only ones situated over a coral reef--we watched beautiful, colorful fish swim past the window in the floor, and we went snorkeling under there as well. We also took one of the resort's free kayaks and paddled to the Coral Garden next to the Private Island part of the resort, and went snorkeling there--amazing! There were many good restaurants that we could walk to from the resort (our favorite was Mai Tai on the beach side) and we rented bicycles from a family across the street and biked around the whole island. Basically, we splurged on the bungalow, but avoided most of the other (overpriced) amenities at the resort and found less expensive options for most things. It was a wonderful, romantic second honeymoon (25th anniversary) and we had a great time!

The food at the hotel was very overpriced. We only ate one meal there--the Tahitian buffet, and despite the price, no drinks were included, not even water. The food was good, though, so it was worth it for that one meal.
