We loved Bora Bora but Moorea was even better and Kaveka provided a lovely base to explore paradise. Great staff, great bungalow, no air con required with the bay breezes, good snorkeling off Kaveka's jetty, and watch the fish while dining.
location is lovely; one receptionist was very helpful dealing with a tour operator who was dishonest and over-charging by nearly double a whale-wathing tour -- Nice snorkeling off the dock, although shallow water over sharp coral. Very kind and friendly gardener works in the yard keeping the surrounding garden lovely.
I asked the hotel manager to call a tour operator to arrange a pick up time, even though I had already found, on my own, the tour guide, as I found it difficult to communicate on the phone in French to arrange details. The hotel took a 20% deposit for this tour, which I found out later from the tour guide was kept by the hotel and not given to the guide for his services - it was a very high price to pay for a 2 minute phone call to confirm a tour, and a rip-off, and the hotel cheating the tour guide. I was not told in advance by the hotel management/receptionist that to make this phone call would require a charge, simply to confirm the time of pick up for a tour. Also, the room had torn fabric in the ceiling and open vents, leading to constant mosquito problems in the room in the evenings with no way to keep them out, and constant ant problem. Starving dogs and cats frequented the hotel and begged for food from clients. The room, packed with 2 beds and shelves, had little floor space for walking. It is at least a mile, and at least a 20 min. walk, to get to grocery store.
Location, location, location. Wonderful setting in an attractive garden right on Cook's Bay lagoon. Comfy, attractive cabins with verandahs and chairs looking straight out to sea (lagoon or beach front cabins a must). Interior fittings OK, but attractive (all bamboo) and bed (KS) comfy with good pillows. Airconditioning and fan and mozzie coils (necessary as no screens or nets). Fresh towels daily.
Plumbing dreadful - shower didn't drain properly, no plug in basin, toilet stopped once. Worst aspect is restaurant, where food is very poor and overpriced (only ate there once). Husband served wine in cracked glass and a piece of glass broke off and cut his lip - no response from management/staff except offer of a free glass of wine! Pay extra for everything - mean, penny-pinching attitude. Staff offhand. No ladder into lagoon, so couldn't swim there as no way to get in or out, so had to drive to beach.
Location to shops was good, quiet and relaxing resort.
Non motorised sports were not free, TV was only available in French (English TV in foyer) island buses very unreliable, no free Wi-Fi
The Kaveka is located on picturesque Cook’s Bay with its turquoise waters and dramatic peaks. The bungalows are furnished in dark woods and cane furniture and kept clean. The gardens are ablaze with tropical vegetation and the small, white-sand beach and waterfront are equipped with sun beds. The reception staff, especially Tim and Haave, are very friendly, helpful and always ready for a laugh and a joke.
The food in the restaurant was adequate, but the service slow. There is nothing much near the hotel, except for a small, but excellent pizzeria (Allo), so if you don’t rent a car or a bike, be prepared to walk - 20 mins. to the nearest village (Maharepa). WiFi is expensive - €6 for 30 mins.
Value for money, nice little beach.
Beautiful views from the veranda of my bungalow.Nice garden and beach setting. Friendly and helpful staff. Cook very accomodating in preparing vegetarian dishes (that could hardly be found on the menu).
Small things, but too many: fairly isolated location, with few nearby dining options; only soap, no other bathroom amenities; no complimentary drinking water or beach towels; only French tv channels; no coffee/tea making facilities in the room; expensive wifi
Location is very pretty ( but not directly at the lagoon), room was spacious and beautiful, fresh flowers in the room, air conditioning was welcome.
Shower curtain was a little dirty, only check-in available at 3 pm, no free wifi, staff pushy on selling us extra activities.
Beautiful location bus stop right accross the road and it firs run twice on Sunday to ferry 7:00 am and 3:15 don't listen to the owner !!! have coffee at the end of the dock and see amazing fish Except for the owner the staff were great and speak English
Owner and the food plan is way too expensive and food was edible e walk five min to great salad and pizza place down the road and to local snack shops instead
fantastic location in Cook's Bay, big and nice bungalow full of amenities, wonderful snorkelling just off the pier, very professional staff members
prices in the restaurant's menu are just crazy, they are too high and breakfast is almost 20 Euros.....
easy late arrival drive from ferry; beautiful view Cooks Bay from beachfront bungalow; easy drive to belvedere lookout; best poisson cru in postcard surroundings; comfortable, clean, not buggy; free kayaks.
debris along shore discourages swimming; abandoned adjacent property; no cooking facilities; inconvenient location for exploring island and snorkeling; not much nearby
Hot stuffy room with poor ventilation and the a/c didn't work.
The bungalows, the garden and especially the restaurant on stilts are really worth recommending. You can also rent bicycles and book several activities, best of which, in my opinion, is the picnic on a small island off Moorea.
When checking out I asked if I could pay in euros and i was told it was certainly possible, but I wasn't told and it wasn't written anywhere that the exchange rate would not be the fixed exchange rate between euros and Polynesian francs, unlike at two other hotels where I had just stayed; also, 30 minutes Internet at 700 Polynesian francs is really expensive, even compared with other places in French Polynesia.
very nice bungalow
Amazing location Amazing pier Friendly staff Cute bungalows
Some of the features were a bit old, but it gave it charm
My sister and I stayed at the Kaveka and had a great bamboo bungalow 20 ft from the water with a small beach in front of us. We loved it! It had a small refrigerator so we could keep food for breakfast, beer, etc. in it. There is no coffee maker in the rooms, but we would get coffee at the hotel restaurant each morning. I researched Moorea thoroughly and this hotel. We brought 2 beach towels each because I read the they charged $5 per day for beach towels. We also brought our own snorkeling gear because I read that good gear is hard to find on the island. We rented a car for 3 days and checked out the other hotels and still liked ours the best. The Hilton had no character, the Intercontinental was too crowded, the Sofitel had a restaurant that was ridiculously expensive and the Black Pearl just wasn't very nice. The food at the Kaveka restaurant is really good! Also if you want to go somewhere to eat, you just have to have the front desk call the restaurant and they pick you up and drop you off! They expect no tips in Moorea! The staff at the Kaveka are so friendly and you really feel like you get to know them well and their culture, that's the biggest difference between the Kaveka and the other hotels. Also you can be shuttled into town which is a 10 minute walk away to the grocery store every morning at 9:30 AM and they will either wait or pick you back up in an hour or two. We will be back! Loved it!
We didn't use the air conditioning because you have to pay, but the ceiling fan was at one speed and you couldn't make it faster. We heard from someone a few days before we left that there is a plug you can buy at the grocery store to ward off the mosquitos. We brought a lot of Skin So Soft bug repellant and a spray and lathered it on day and night - many many mosquitos
beautiful views, clean room, restaurant was o.k.
Nice but simple place - everything you need is around. No phone in the room. Very good restaurant for a 2- star rated place. Friendly staff. Somewhat centrally located.
Beach is small and to go into the water is very difficult because of many sharp stones/corals.
Friendly competent staff, not "in your face"; great value; all requested activities can be arranged; small beach and reef directly outside the hotel water frontage.
Expensive internet . . . but then, this discourages an on-line prescence whilst on holiday. Unplug and chill out.
Location, price and wonderful staff
The staff was very helpful and friendly from the minute you get there. Our on the water bungalow was relatively very private however there are other guests that share "your" beach...the food was amazing and snorkeling was pretty good. The views were awesome. There is good shopping close by and a grocery store as there is a small frig in the bungalow. The owner even went out of his way to take us to find my husband a hand made ukulele!
The location of our lagoon front bungalow was amazing. The air conditioning worked well and staff were friendly and helpful organising excursions. I loved having a fridge in the room to keep drinks and fruit cool.
When we booked it said toiletries were included, in fact that was only soap, not good for washing hair and moisturising dry skin!
great location, spectacular views and sunsets. Great value for money, personalised service and would recommend if you dont need the 5 star
food fair but not fantastic,no pool
Location on Cook's Bay was really pretty. The pier was great to jump off and snorkel. Not too far to walk to shops and restraunts.
Check out time was 10am. No TV channels in English.
Reasonable location. was the cheapest available place in an expensive country, great beach.
The Hotel doesn't have dedicated lobby staff, they use the Restaurant staff as receptionists, so you can't have reasonably fast lobby services during the Restaurant peak hours.
