Balinghai was everything we dreamed, wished and hoped for and more. It was exactly what we wanted on our last vacation but couldn't find. A tropical rainforest hideaway with crystal clear turquoise water coves and powder white sand, along with the friendliest staff and great food, big rooms built in traditional style where even the bathroom boasts a magnificent view! Looking at the resort from the outside you would hardly know it was there, it is that hidden from view and therefore gives you all the privacy you want, but still allowing you the view outwards. The rooms are large and all have great views, we stayed in the Hill House which is the closest room to the beach with it's own path leading directly in to the water, excellent way to start each morning. There is a separate floor beneath your room with a large patio area with daybeds where each morning you will find a thermos with hot water for your tea of coffee. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be ordered anywhere you like, to your room/patio, to the upstairs seating area or down by the beach. As the resort is set in a steep cliffside, an ingenious pulley system is put in place to send food between the kitchen at the top and the beach below. Nothing is too big a task for the staff and this friendly family run hotel is a delight to stay in. There are kayaks to paddle around in, and floating pontoons set up to swim out to, as well as lots of reef around, only thing is there is very little fish to be seen anywhere, shame as the water is as clear as crystal glass. We did however see a turtle while we were kayaking around to the next resort which was amazing! The sunsets are amazing each and every day and Balinghai is renowned as one of the very best sunset spots on the island. This is a dream destination and far exceeded our expectations, we will definitely be returning!

If we had 3 things we could put on the improve list, we would mention the following: - stock ice cream - get more comfy chairs in dining areas - lower ring tone on staff phone in bar

    Wifi strong

beach sand was rough, all for money, eventhough we din open the water

This is an amazing, secluded hotel/resort. Private, intimate, spectacular views. Lovely food, attentive staff, and an idyllic location.

However, it is quite far from the jetty port - after flying from Manila to Kalibo, a 2hr bus ride, and a boat ride, the 30 minute journey from the port isn't too much extra but getting back into the main area of the island takes time later in the day.

It was a dream. It was a house on a steep hill covered with tropical trees, with paths leading down to a private beach. Fresh fruit drinks were served from the beach bar, the meals that were cooked at the top of the hill and lowered down to the bottom in a basket from a rope and pulley. Not far from the beach is a cave, that you would discover only when you explore, with birds that acted like bats, and it is the perfect place to make love, if you bring a blanket in a bag.

Wifi was claimed, but the Hill House was out of range of the wifi signal. I could get wifi only at the top of the hill next to the lobby. For international travellers, it matters, because a lot of expense is accumulated by communicating on roaming.

The privacy of the resort was amazing.

It was a bit of a trek to get to restaurants and bars in town but the e-trike made it easy and it was nice to be away from the madness.

Such a nice hidden gem! With a natural setting over a lush cliff, the houses (cottages) feel somewhat simple and rustic, but with wonderful views and in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature. The Balinghai beach below is in a beautiful secluded cove, which made us feel in paradise.

    Wifi was unreliable.
