We checked in on Valentine's Day weekend and and didn't have a reservation at the restaurant. The host asked if we had a reservation we said no, so he sat us at a table by the door on the sidelines of the main dining area. We felt ignored and stressed at having to hail the servers' attention for a bottle of Panna or to even order any entrees or dessert. The homemade seasonal ice cream we were told was ginger tea flavored ,tasted like old frozen yogurt taht had been sitting in the freezer beyong it's expiration date, and the cherries on the side tasted old as well. :( My miso soup also had bitter tofu which must have been out of date, because i frequently buy this brand and it has never tasted bitter. The restaurant staff was not attentive and seemed to ignore our presence despite the fact that the restaurant was not highly occupied at the time. We were feeling a bit unwelcome, unsatisfied and stressed out so we we decided to leave and check out the bar area. This was was where the real 4 star hotel customer service was at! A completely different feeling from the restaurant.
We liked our bartender at the bar area. If he led the entire staff including the restaurant in a customer service/ etiquette training session, then perhaps only then would your hotel be worthy of having a 4 star rating. His attention to detail, warm and sincere interaction and knowledge of excellent customer service is what we expected to find at Hotel Angelo. He is a gem, take care of him as much as he takes care of his customers. He would be the reason why we would return to Hotel Angelo, despite the subpar staff and service we received at the restaurant Valentine's Day night.
