Location, charming place, good food
internet WIFI not available in my room, I had to go outside of the room to be able to connect. I have been there 5 times, and it is still the same.
After having booked through booking.com we sent a couple of emails to the hotel through their email contact form on their homepage. They contained questions regarding their restaurants, check-in and parking. Unfortunately we never got any answers back. At the end we called El Convento to ask those questions. When we finally got there to check in we mentioned the email troubles to the front desk staff. They apologized and were very friendly. Then they couldn't find our booking. Fortunately we had out booking confirmation from booking.com with us. After a few minutes they solved all the problems and surprised us with a free upgrade to the Pablo Casals suite which they also call the honeymoon suite. Needless to say we were very happy and this huge suite was just a dream. Very private, beautifully furnished, all the amenities needed, wonderful views over the town and the cathedral right outside the window. We enjoyed our time at El Convento tremendously, sitting at the small pool area, enjoying the free coffee and fruits and of course the complementary wine and cheese at 6pm. The only minor downturn was the restaurant Patio del Nispero: the menu didn't really apply to us because most of the dishes were fried. The food was good but for a luxury hotel not the quality we expected. Overall the staff was very friendly and outgoing. The parking right across the street next to the cathedral is very convenient. But most of all we just enjoyed our suite and the common areas of this beautifully restored historic building. Thank you again to all the staff members for our upgrade and for the wonderful time we were able to spend at El Convento!
The location and decor are made us feel that we were stepping into a different world - quiet and elegant. The dining room and bar are in an open atrium, giving the sense of an al fresco experience.
Wi-fi access was a bit spotty - but we didn't complain so perhaps it could have been easily remedied.
El Convento is a most charming base from which to explore Old San Juan. All of the restaurants are excellent. If you can grab a room on a high floor with a view of the harbor. There was a mistake and they were not able to honor our booking exactly but I really appreciated how the management went out of their way to make it right.
Nothing not to like but know it is a luxury hotel and priced accordingly.
Ity took an hour to get soup. Then the main course was dried out rice with little pieces of chicken that were mainly bones. Dessert was a creme brule with a thick crust that was like toffee and could not be broken into pieces. Service for even coffen in the morning took forever. They need a better chef and much faster service. The hotel was otherwise a gem.
the atmosphere created by the building itself, and its many places to relax and sit outside, the way the breeze flows through, the mix of old and new...
not a thing
The location was amazing. We walked everywhere. Taxi service is easy and consists of vans, so our family of 5 was able to travel in one vehicle. All locations are flat rate and reasonable. We loved all the outdoor spaces in the hotel and the 24 hour coffee, tea, water and fruit. We ate at all 3 restraunts and were very happy. We especially loved the breakfast. Staff was young and super kind and professional. Could not have asked for a better stay.
So beautiful. So peaceful. The staff was incredible.
Stayed for our wedding weekend. Staff was attentive and on top of everything. Facilities are comfortable, clean, and beautifully kept. Food was top notch and drinks just perfection. Thank you Luis Flores and Luis Castillo for your dedication. Thank you Ely Rivera for your attentions. Best weekend ever!
Our stay was 100% perfect!
Service Bed was VERY comfortable Food was EXCELLENT Loved pool & Jacuzzi on top
Room was small
Location, history, complimentary water and wine.
Small room size, the twin bed was even smaller than a dorm bed, small bath room, a pool and the pool room size was vet small, the initial room was facing streight to another house and maid room
Fantastic hotel perfect location and close to everything
Great room. Very friendly. Great location.
Liked everything about El Convento
Liked happy hour, vintage Spanish architecture and features
Elevator out of order for almost 24 hrs , car and driver hotel recommended at $350/day for 2 was dirty cargo van for 15 with opinionated, overly-loquacious driver, breakfasts overpriced, waitstaff disappear for long periods. Should have asked 2 60-somethings if they needed help with five long flights of stairs when elevator went out. Waitress at upstairs restaurant was rude in refusing to seat us for hotel-suggested Flamenco show when restaurant only half full. We spent more on drinks and dessert than their other patrons, many of whom also did not have meals.
Staff always friendly very courteous and helpful
Not looking for special treatment but always surprised that reception are unaware that you have stayed in the hotel before. My wife and I have probably stayed at El C 7 times in the last 10 years. Miss the honor bar
This historic hotel is well-maintained with modern amenities. Water, coffee and tea and fruit is available all day in the Lounge. Public areas are very welcoming. Restaurants available as well. City center location prime for city touring.
Much of Old San Juan was under construction while we were there, requiring long walks up and down hills. Quality shops are far apart and do not make city shopping easy. Taxis can only go one-way with a $12 minimum, so quick rides up the hill get expensive.
The gardener took the time to show us her gardens and was very passionate about her job, I was very impressed
Ambience and historical significance.
Waiting outside for airport taxi in the heat.
Everywhere I looked in the hotel there was something interesting to see We had a delightful guided tour through the kitchen herb garden Each evening we enjoyed meeting other guests at the wine and cheese party.
Excellent location near the best places to see in old San Juan PR
Very friendly staff Lovely hotel Good amenities
Small bed for 2 Problem with the shower Window broken
Location Wine and cheese evenings on the terrace Architecture
The staff was always helpful with anything we needed. They had great advice on local eats and went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of.
