Score from 82 reviews Good
The resort is located in a lovely area filled with palm trees and a sprawling ocean view. If you are a "red level" guest you get access to a private, adults only pool with free bali beds.
For a "five star" resort, you'd expect great treatment from the staff. Not our experience – from the woman who checked us in, to the staff at the restaurants, to the staff at the pool, EVERYONE was rude and paid you no attention. Additionally, the facility itself – the rooms, the restaurants are fairly outdated and not very clean. The food options are decent but overpriced and fairly limited. A beautiful location, but spend your money elsewhere.
Breakfast was good.
Paying as much as I did, figured the rooms would be much more comfortable and upscale. The tv was small and no pay per view. The cable was staticky. The room was bland. For as lavish as the rest of the hotel was, I expected more from the room. There needs to be more information about the hotel, nobody seemed to know where the hotel was. Or weren't even aware of the hotels existence.
Position of hotel wonderfull and Red Level ammenaties essential.Red Level pool and staff especially Tony and Rubén very helpful.the 2 restaurants were very nice but deserted in the evenings.A hire car became a must at £100 a day or an outside restaurant to send a taxi for a change of scenery.Management needs to be more forward lookin and arrange evenings better for the customers.
Evenings.Felt cut off from the world with 2 resturants and evenings good but not not enough variety. Not even a piano or light music except Friday and Saturday disco music far to load and about a dozen people to listen.Taxis non existent because hotel is to far away.A good idea would be to have a hotel shuttle to take at least down to highway 3 to catch a taxi to local Resturaunts or towns. So many various prices to stay at hotel. We came from the UK and according to other guest we were ripped off USA guests paid half what we did
Everything especially the Red Level service and prices at thr restaurants were moderate.
Alot of tips everywere!!
not much to say here... the resort itself is beautiful beach is small..pool area very crowded and only 3-4 umbrellas for guests
Customer service is awful The resort did not want to honor the credit that was posted on the site ($500-900) but thanks to Booking I was able to get it (the credit is still a scam...you can only use part of the credit as you spend more money in the resort) you feel imprisoned since everything is far and the taxis are under contract with resort and fixed rates (exorbitant) the food (B/L/D)is average but their prices are way above average If you don't have a room close to the pool/front desk, you will need to call a cart daily (which you need to call for!) to pick you up there is more, but no need to bore you with it
Friendly, helpful staff. Gorgeous hotel grounds and facilities.
Food etc expensive and charged to park car on site.
The beach was pristine and virtually empty- everyone and all the kids were at the pool area. There are so many hammocks and chaises on the beach...it was like being on a private island. The bars and atmosphere- the bali beds in the lounge, the gorgeous grounds- all incredible. We like to walk, so we didn't even wait for golf cart service. We did a little snorkeling in the turtle grass protected reef in the ocean. The staff was very polite. The resort is luxurious. We had a regular room and it was lovely and very large. I can't see why anyone would pay for the Red rooms- the Red pool is dull.
Check out was very very slow. They promised to email me a copy of my receipt and did not. I didn't find check-in to be slow. The valet car service provider was nice but confused. (There is plenty of self parking at 15.00 a day with in and out.)
The location, room sizes and privately
Lack of activities, lack of restaurants choices, high cost of food and drinks and lack of live entertainments.
The courtesy of the staff. The room was cleaned, well equipped, and all the kitchen utensils were cleaned. The response to room service requests was very good.
The big pool is really good, specially when you stay with young kids. But it is time for the hotel to schedule a major overhaul to it, specially the floor. I do not know the reason but the water supply/return nozzles were not functioning to a 100%
Beach Front Location (notice that it's not really a proper beach. You can only swim up to the knees. After that it's full of algae) Suites are quite big and the resort (even if it's not a true 5 star) is pleasant.
Customer Care services are simply unacceptable. They are unable to deliver, independently what basic services are you requesting (like a plate of fruit, missing towels, whatever) - notice that we had the red level room (beach front-line) where you are supposed to get a more "dedicate service". Too Expensive Vs Other similar \ or even lower category hotels (I would like to underline again, the extreme poor service provided). Beach Restaurant (the only one with "fast food" closes at 6pm). Other restaurants are too expensive (especially, if you are looking to eat a burger, salad, soup, etc.). While I did enjoy the location, you need to have a car. Too far away to walk and taxis are quite pricey. Excursions are very expensive (even comparing with other hotels). Overall, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN.
The service was very slow but the people were nice.
The 24 hour pool was so dirty. The beach needs to be clean. There is too much seaweed. My check on experience was horrible. I called a week before so I could be prepared. The $100 deposit for each night was a big much.
The prices and fees for everything.
The grounds are beautiful. Nice beach chairs and hammocks. Great views; nice landscaping. The little store on-site is very helpful.
Rooms are dirty; hotel might have been "luxury"15 years ago but now the furnishings are beat up, run down. Ice machine never worked. I had 2 bad meals at their restaurants. One was so bad I sent it back - but was still charged.
Facilities are beautiful and beach is right in frnont of the hotel.
Prices in restaurants are too expensive.
Prior to arrival we read reviews which made is nervous. Such comments as unfriendly staff and facility not clean. My wife and I found the staff to be very friendly and most accommodating! Wonderful experience and would recommend upgrading to red level.
It is a very relaxing place!
The price was high when I arrived I found out that I have to pay $100 pe day as a guarantee and I was never noticed about it.
This was our second time there in 6 months. We love Gran Melia.
the check in time is really long
Good facilities, room cleaned thoroughly on daily basis, good size room.Japanese & Italian restaurants were very good , breakfast was typical international buffet. Bar was good but cocktails were expensive, as they are in all International hotels on PR.
Resort Oncosts, pricey bar bill, service not great in general & room service ridiculous. Took 25mins to get Room service to answer the phone & then told it would be 1hr 10 mins to wait. Needless to say we managed without Room service , so can't comment on the quality of the food! Had been forewarned by other reviews but the beds are really soft. So soft my husband asked for mattress to put on floor as was unable to sleep in the bed. But they did bring the mattress very quickly with additional bed linen.
The food was great!!!
Cost of restaurants at hotel, no real beach, poor service in general
