Access to great food, easy public transportation, excellent price. and Fernando was a very gracious host.
Kind of a noisy fan....maybe earplugs would help one to sleep.
We were warmly welcomed to the hotel. Fernando is a nice guy who seems like he genuinely does care for guests here. The location was OK - right next to Walgreens supermarket and restaurants and a five minute walk to the beach. After the issues we had, Fernando came to an agreement with us and we left on good terms.
On arrival into our room, we were greeted by a big cockroach...Fernando quickly tried to hide this and dispose of it. The same happened when we used another room later during our stay - there is obviously a problem with cockroaches and hygiene. The WIFI did not work for 24 hours of our stay. Fernando advised it was not his fault, however we paid for a room with WIFI - we were disappointed we did not have this. The water did not work for 30 hours due to construction work within the area which affected a large number of people in nearby properties. Although this was also not Fernando's fault - it meant we did not have a flushing toilet, running tap water or a working shower for this whole time. Fernando had rain water however this quickly ran out. The rooms are extremely run down and are in dire need of refurbishment. The bathroom was very dirty. The old town of San Juan is quite far away and buses are not very regular or punctual and it is a $20 taxi ride to the airport from the hotel. We have stayed in some very basic places during our travels however we both agree that this was one of the worst places we have stayed, especially considering we paid $60 per night.
Service Price Manager Fernando is a nice guy
WIFI in the bedroom doesnt work
In a nutshell - First time in San Juan, on a budget with my girlfriend - looking to soak up the sun in a centric area = found it! Stayed at Mont Caribe this past week, and I am astonished by the warm welcome from the Hotel Manager - Fernando, great guy extremely helpful. Room - Our room had two beds, private bathroom, and a eating area (equipped with fridge/freezer and microwave) a balcony with 2 chairs. The room was cozy especially with the AC (that would freeze us at night :) great when its hot outside!) The TV in the room was rather small - looked like a CCTV monitor, but was hooked up to DirectTv - but I spent maybe 30minutes total in my entire trip watching TV, the area is very centric - so there is no reason why one needs to watch tv. Facilities - I used the parking spot that is included with the booking, a $50 refundable deposit is required for the remote control, attach it to your room/car keys and nothing will be lost. This was promptly refunded at checkout. (Fernando made refund slip with credit card on monday, and it posted on Tuesday) Services - Are available upon request, we stayed for a week and I consider myself a neat freak whereas I change the trash daily and keep everything neat, so cleaning services were not needed - the night manager was a great guy as well - don't be afraid to spark a conversation with him, I swapped towels twice and asked for floor towels once, and toilet paper no questions asked just gave it over. The area is very quiet, and stable - meaning that its not in a party zone where you'll hear a racket at 3am when you're trying to sleep - very centric as well about 3 blocks to the beach, which is actually very good. There are a few gas stations nearby, Wendy's, Burger King, Mcdonalds, Church's Chicken, Domino's Pizza, KFC, and mom n pops, a discount 99c store is on the corner.
Stairs can be kind of steep.
*Fernando the manage was exceptionally helpful, family run business so always keen to make sure your happy but also give you your own space *very private.. Front and back gates onto different street *great wifi *organized a drop off to the airport with Fernando.. Big help Great cafés and restaurants within a 50 meter radius. Esp cocobana opposite McDonald's. *kitchenette n fridge! *value for money *Very little was bad. Obviously it's not luxury but it has everything you need and more then most at the price. :)
Fernando was ok.
Everything the first night we didn't even have a queen size bed we had 2 twin beds, the toilet wouldn't flush, there's was no water, shower was only coming out as little drips, I was getting electrocuted when I was trying to shut off the water, AC wasn't working so they gave us this little fan that barely worked, the floor was filthy so disgusting. The next day they changed are room long story short me and my husband found BED BUGS we left. Fernando didn't even offer to give us our money back for the days we didn't stay there, our first vacation and everything went wrong.
I loved the owner Fernando who was very helpful and kind throughout our stay. He tells you where to go and what to see and makes sure you get your money's worth! The room was big enough for the two of us. It is not a place where you stay in by any means but a safe and comfortable place to come back to after exploring the island. The location is key! It is two blocks from the beach and around the corner is an amazing bakery that you'll find yourself going to every morning. We put a $50 deposit for a parking space, which I recommend if you're renting a car because the streets are very narrow and it can be hard to find parking sometimes. The room came with your standard comfortable bed, private bathroom, refrigerator, TV, and wifi. The place is cozy and gives you a local, non-tourist experience. If you're looking for luxury this is not the place for you but if you're looking for authentic Puerto Rican hospitality with a price you can't beat then I highly recommend Mont Caribe.
The gate to the parking spot didn't always function properly, however you could manually open the gate if need be. Also, you can't flush toilet paper down the toilet, which can be hard to remember at times. Other than these minor things there was nothing to complain about at all. Great experience!
Everything! Great place for the price !
Fernando was friendly and gave us a tour of the city despite our late flight. The rooms were clean, and the guesthouse was gated. Ocean park beach was a 5 minute walk. Bars, restaurants, discount stores, and Walgreens were also within walking distance. For longer distances, we rode the bus (T5 and 53) located on each side of the guesthouse. This place is the best way to experience the true Puerto Rico.
The outside of the guesthouse needed to be restored. It was not located in a tourist area. We stayed near the locals and most were unfriendly, even when I spoke Spanish. It is not recommended to walk at night either.
Fernando was amazing and really took the time to make sure we were happy. Awesome location two blocks from a great beach. The neighborhood is a local place and not surrounded by tourist traps. We ate at Kasalta around the corner every day for breakfast and ended our nights there with a few glasses of wine. Great location to explore San Juan and the island by car.
If you are looking to get pampered at a luxury hotel surrounded by tourist traps, this isn't your place. If you need an inexpensive place to set out and explore on your own you will be happy
If you want fancy and lots of service - this is not for you. However, if you want basic comfortable accommodations, prices you can't beat, awesome location, few tourists, and a wonderful host - you can't go wrong with Mont Caribe.
the others staying there were really friendly..location was PEERFECT
The room could use a real good cleaning ,,it would be so cute if they give the room a nice coat of paint..
Location was idea for us. The owner was like and old friend. Very pleasant.helpful with directions and even offered to show us around old san juan. All of the staff made you feel like you where home. Very clean and bright room.
Fernando was an excellent host! He made our stay very enjoyable. The entire staff was very friendly. The location is perfect - near restaurants, bars, and one block to the beach!
Nothing - the location for the cost is amazing. It is a guesthouse, so nothing fancy, but perfect for us especially because we spent most of our time outside anyway!
Great location: 5 miles from the airport, 5min walk to one of the best beaches near San Juan (Ocean Park) and one block from two great restaurants (Kasalta & La b de Burro - both listed in Lonely Planet). One block for the (15min) bus to old town. Great value, with an extra room, a balcony with deck chairs, and a refrigerator. Owner (Fernando) was super. Very nice, and gave us a tour of the area.
We prefer guest houses to hotels, so it was perfect for us. But maybe not for folks who appreciate fancy.
The kitchenette, overall size, location to awesome budget friendly food and close to the beach.
Location, close to ghetto-ish parts of Santurce if you go southeast. Location a good amount away from Condado. Does have excellent places to eat at and good shopping and some nightlife and everything on calle luiza street. It was a good thing I stayed here at the time I did though because it was cheap, nice wifi, kitchenette, and there was a tropical storm warning, that turned into a depression, and I was dealing with a bad sunburn so..it worked out ok. Decent place to stay at in the middle of a longer vacation or trip but not good if your not gonna be in San Juan for long.
The manager was awesome. He gave us a personal tour, informed us of where to go, how to get there and where not to go!
the location was in somewhat of a rough area
Fernando was very friendly and accommodating. He upgraded our room for free due to renovations, waited for us to arrive after hours to check in and gave us a personal tour of the area. The area was great (just outside of the tourist section) and very close to the beach.
There wasn't much that I didn't like. No real complaints. If you are the type of nit-picky person who likes to complain though, I would suggest going elsewhere because I'm sure you'll find something to complain about. You can't expect a low-cost place to be perfect.
