We travelled for 5 weeks in Spain and Portugal and this was by far our favourite hotel. It even beat 5 star places. The setting was lovely with a beautiful courtyard in which to have a drink and tapas or take your breakfast if you wished. The breakfast was brilliant - an extensive buffet as well as a la carte items. The staff were very friendly and helpful in recommending places around the town and the decor of the hotel was very stylish. We loved it!

This is a fantastic hotel and I would highly recommend it. The staff are excellent, very attentive and welcoming. The breakfast and other food that they offer throughout the day is fabulous. We stayed for nine nights and had booked a double room but when we got there, they had upgraded us to a suite at no extra charge! The atmosphere is the hotel is beautiful, its like a home from home. This hotel made the trip for us!

The Staff and ambience of the hotel. Staff are amazing, Only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer. Probably one of the prettiest hotels we have stayed in, within the city walls through an arch to a courtyard setting where we had breakfast, used to be an olive factory, rooms are on ground and 1st floor surrounding the courtyard. On arrival our car was parked we were asked what we would like to drink and then given loads of info on the best restaurants and how to see the sights, very informal and welcoming. Rooms are nice, big comfortable bed, quiet and peaceful but within walking distance of everything to see. Breakfast was fantastic - stay here just for that - lots of organic produce - fresh juices, bread, fruits, cheeses and hot items made to order. I cannot compliment the staff enough, they were wonderful, so helpful, extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly.

Staff is very helpful and friendly. They serve one of the best breakfasts we'd ever had in a hotel. Lots of variety and quality fresh ingredients. WiFi worked great. Room was a little disappointing. We were upgraded to a suite. So two rooms. The extra room had a bed and a desk. Furnishings are minimal. The little rug was dirty, there was only one chair, the toilet seat was broken. Amenities were only shampoo and body wash.

I've stayed in thousands of hotels over the years, most related to work and many were five star establishments...cannot recall any up to the level I experienced at Albergaria Do Calvario. Many of the staff are interns from the School of Tourism at the University, highly motivated and enthusiastic. The same can be said of the full time staff. Everyone went out of their way to ensure a perfect stay. The attention to detail on all levels was very impressive. It was a unique and wonderful experience.

The hotel is well located for ease of access, the rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable, the quality and selection of food on option for breakfast is very commendable and the on site parking is a bonus. I enjoyed being able to relax in the lounge areas with a wine or coffee. Above all, the staff were exceptionally welcoming and obliging and went the extra distance to make both my stays here relaxing and memorable. My sincere thanks to Michelle and the rest of the team. You are credit to the profession. Keep up the good work.

We loved everything including the atmosphere, amazing stuff, friendly, ready to help and answer all questions and not last gourmet breakfast. Peter thank you very much for advising us to take local road. It was great ride. Waiting for your list of tapas places in macarela area.

Big room, nice bathroom, good water pressure in shower. The hotel has free, private parking. Nice atmosphere, many local restaurants in the neighbourhood. The staff gave good information about the town. Free internet available in the reception area. Helpful staff at check-out letting me use their computer for flight check-in the next day. It seems that everybody wants to be helpful - and they are - but they should follow the line (see commentaries below). The hotel was a little difficult to find, couldn't see any streets signs in town. Using GPS would be a good idea. At breakfast hard to know who belong to the staff, a bit confusing. Everybody dressed in ordinary clothes, no name signs. Not all clients were treated equally. They do ask your name (which I don't think is necessary), but they forget to ask if you wish to have hot breakfast, which is available. You get a feeling they favour some people. Loud talking in reception going on until 1 a.m., very annoying because of the echoing (stone walls). Couldn't call reception because the tel.number was not in the room. Put it behind your ear on arrival, when they mention it! No lift. On arrival I had help with my suitcase to the first floor, but checking out nobody seemed to bother, although a man from the staff saw me struggling. After all the other kind details, one expects them to "keep their eyes open" and be more attentive.

The staff and owner made every guest feel important with their friendly and helpful manner, all were consistent in this respect. The food, public areas and rooms were all very clean, comfortable and cheery. I could not say enough good things about our stay and comfort in this very special place. Barbara and Larry Graham I did not like the fact that our stay had come to an end as we had obligations else where.

We had an incredibly positive experience at Albergaria Do Calvario starting from the moment we entered the beautiful ground. We were met with very helpful, courteous English-speaking staff. In addition to checking in, I had the misfortune of haviang to locate the finder of my just-lost smartphone. (The finder of my phone left a note but insufficieint info for contact). In addition to bringing us bottled water with glasses to drink and providing suggestions for restaurants and activities in the area, the hotel staff was most helpful in assisting me in locating the lost phone (this went on for several days after we left.) The Calvario was very tastefully decorated with lovely outdoor patio for drinks and snacks. Our room for three was a suite with a door between our daughter's room and ours. The sumptuous breakfast was everything that we read about. It came with a huge array of items plus prepared-to-order entree for each guest. Unfortunately we had to leave for Lisbon to deliver our daughter to the airport which prevented us from lingering over breakfast. Please do allow ample time to enjoy the ambience of this hotel, use it as a base to explore Evora and the surrounding area. We plan to do just that when we go back the next time and will stay at least a couple of days. The wi fi did not appear to work in our first floor room, only worked on the ground floor. Unfortunately, we needed it to search for the lost phone.

Every member of the staff was wonderful, helpful, kind and always ready with a smile! We were greeted by a most welcome "welcome drink". Our room was absolutely gorgeous. The breakfast was exceptional. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will dream of retuning...and then make plans to do so.

We loved this hotel. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the lobby was gorgeous and the breakfast was the best we had in all of Portugal. The front desk people were incredible friendly and helpful. Wish I could remember all their names to thank them here. John will even park your car for you in the garage below the hotel. We regretted that we did not stay for more than one night. What a great place. Great location just inside the city walls. Can we give more than a 10? How about 100?

The best of the best I have stayed at while in Europe. The owners and staff provide everything and anything requested. The rooms are very large, clean and remind me of a portugal/spain interior. The breakfast is the best I have come across in my travels in Europe. They provide quality and quantity of all types of foods depending on you preference. The location is located within walking distance of shopping and dinner. Great recommendations provided by the staff. You will not be disappointed. I will return very soon.

Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff, who made the visit to Evora a real pleasure. The hotel is beautifully appointed and the breakfast magnificent. This is easily the most enjoyable hotel we stayed in on our trip to Portugal. The staff also recommended a restaurant in Evora that was the best we ate at in Portugal. Highly recommended!

“Very relaxing environment, great location, lovely gardens, attractive pool area, internet in lobby, really nice friendly and helpful staff, great cocktails! Great to have food available all day as it leaves you with the choice to head into town, or stay in the hotel. Had been concerned about comments to do with a busy breakfast room, but we had no bother and there are notices up indicating the busy periods. We usually go for self catering DIY holdays and this was a lovely change.” Lorna, Worcester |
