The Pestana Porto Hotel is romantically situated along the Douro River, right on the historic Ribeira Square. All guest rooms in this 16th-century building have a spacious bathroom.

the staff were amazing, so kind and helpful, even got a free bottle of port as it was my birthday
Bed, rain shower, breakfast & location = absolutely perfect! In room hair dryer broke and was replaced within 10 minutes. Staff very willing to help with tour & dinner reservations.
Excelent location, nice staff and live music at weekends.
If coming by car there isn't a place to stop to unload bags. Heating turns off at night and became a bit chilly around 5am.

Comfort, Clean and Tidy
No Free Bottle of Water
well located, clean and comfortable
Excellent location, interesting and different internal structure (vaulted stonework in the floors below entrance level), very good bathroom, nice hot snackfood in the front bar. Taxi rank outside. Home-made pineapple jam at breakfast.
Because the room was very compact (OK in itself) there was nowhere to put the enormous decorative bed-cushions at bed-time! Not much room for luggage either.
- The location is sensational - about a block back from the river - Luxurious room - Helpful staff
- Bit of a hike from the train station (mostly downhill on the way there) - probably worth a taxi if you have luggage
Location in Ribeira Architecture Comfortable bed
Room very dark - mahogany from floor to ceiling made room feel smaller than it was.
Helpful friendly staff. Hotel is in good location near riverside restaurants and boat trips. Room was clean, tidy and very comfortable bed, Free wifi.
My room was facing the street - so there was some noise in the early evening, but no problem later on even though I stayed Friday - Tuesday - but it was November, so not peak tourist season. My room had a double bed which made it a bit tight for space, but bathroom was a good size. No tea/coffee making facilities - but this is pretty standard in european hotels.
The location of this hotel is excellent and the staff exception
The room extremely small
Characterful hotel with excellent service from very helpful staff
What's not to like!
Location. Walking distance to shops and sights.
No view from ground floor rooms
Modern, clean, great location, staff was helpful with train information.
Room service meal of chicken and noodles (€28 including fee) turned out to be chicken flavoured ramen noddles, a meal worth pennies. I asked for refund but it was denied. I booked two nights on-line which stated my VISA debit card would not be charged and was only used to hold the room. Upon arrival I presented my business VISA which was what I wanted to use but they said to wait until checkout. Upon checkout I was told they already charged my debit card. I complained and they said they did this because they saw me walk out of the hotel the morning before and thought I was leaving for good and not staying two days. I pointed out that I was leaving the hotel to go sightseeing, a very normal thing. I wasn't carrying any luggage so I asked what made them think I was leaving for good. They did not have an answer but their tone and impatient attitude implied that they though I was trying to skip out. It felt quite insulting. They backed out the charge on my debit but the exchange rate was different so the amt credited was less than the amt charged. Plus I had to pay a currency conversion fee each time so it cost me almost $50 for their mistake. The main amenity I wanted was wifi because I had important emails to catch up on. This hotel promised wifi but I found out that it did not work in my room. They said my room was too far from the router and could not get a signal. I asked them why they did not mention this when I checked in and they said I could sit in the lobby to use the wifi. I asked for a different room but they had none and would not discount the rate to compensate. The room was small and very crowded. There was not enough room to walk between the bed and the TV area without turning sideways. No room for your luggage either. The air conditioning did not work properly in the room so we had to keep the window open. There were no screens so bugs flew in and I got several bites overnight. For a luxury hotel they failed miserably.
Location was incredible. The hotel was nice with a lovely foyer and fab location. Room decor was lovely. Breakfast was exceptional.
The bed was too large for the room so I couldn't get out of bed on the sides. Reception staff were a bit cold. Room service charge was 10 euro (besides food) which was ridiculous given my three course meal cost only 15 euro. If you don't want to offer room service, don't do it. Or charge a more reasonable service charge, e.g. 5%.
Nice hotel, new interior, well located, kind ,firendly, happy staff
Small room for single which is often the case in Europe
location, breakfast, style
noisy road outside
Loved the modern design of the hotel. Welcoming and efficient check in. Nice room with fantastic view of the river and across to the port houses.
Couldn't get wifi in our room. Nothing else.
Location of this hotel was perfect and the gentlemen originally checked us in was very helpful.
Poor wi-fi which drove us mad. No ironing service - you have to put your clothes through drying cleaning - very expensive if you just want some creases dealt with. No all staff were up to the standard of helpfulness as the gentlemen who checked us in. Bathroom lighting needs improvement.
We were allocated a junior suite with a balcony facing the Douro (south) and another facing the town (north). The overhanging roof provided a lot of shelter from the rain. The suite was very comfortable and well maintained. Morning breakfast offered an wide selection and was delightful. The coffee especially had an aroma and flavour not found in UK coffee chains. The restaurant food in the evening was very enjoyable. The waiting staff were very attentive.
1. Whilst accepting that the old building was converted to an hotel, the carefully built-in furniture allowed very little storage space. 2. The unusual side wall of the bathroom was a window with an electronically operated Venetian blind, facing the main bedroom. Why? 3. The kettle in the lounge area had a very short lead which meant that steam rose and covered the wall-mounted tv above. ( Do EU regulations apply?) 4. Although herbal tea sachets were available in the room coffee was not.
BREAKFAST ROOM VERY SMALL ¡¡¡ WE HAD TO WAIT ON LINE ¡¡¡
bedding was good
internet was not too fast, noisy hotel on a main road and the double glazing did not fit properly no tissues or kettle in room
Located on the river side. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast selection. I would come back for short stay!
During busy time, there is quiet a long queue waiting to be seated for breakfast, sometimes you need to share table. Also the rooms are pretty small.
location by the river reception staff very pleasant and helpful good breakfast nearby carpark
