Excellent location for splendid view. Such a fine view is not many in my travel experience. Helpful staff.

I wanted a tiny refrigerator in the room.

It was a memorable stay. Everything was perfect, including a comfortable bed, elegant bedding,charming furnishings, spectacular view, and lovely hosts. Breakfast was something to look forward to! And there are great places to explore.

This is a very special place. The views over the Duro River valley are superb. The staff are friendly and helpful. Unique, comfortable and good value.

Friendly and helpful hosts. Spectacular setting. Great winter weather, price and seclusion. As beautiful as it looks outside, it is just as beautifully appointed inside. Visit the Port wine museum, the Mateus Gardens, the especially pretty town of Amarante.

Gorgeous home with relaxing lounge area, verandah outside room and excellent river views. Very handy to be able to order food and drinks such as toasted sandwiches and wine to save leaving the property. Breakfast with home made cakes and jam was delicious and beautifully presented. Household staff were lovely and very helpful with maps, taxis and itineraries for the region.

The staff and the setting were both exemplary.

The property is beautiful and the staff was incredibly kind. We felt like we were in our home away from home. I definitely plan to return one day.

There are a few places that will forever stay in my memory as outstanding in terms of their magical settings - Santorini; Vancouver's Sea to Sky Highway; and now Casa De Canilhas in the Douro Valley.

Absolutely fabulous. A beautifully maintained property with wonderful views and Maria and her staff couldn't have been more helpful. Homemade preserves and cake at breakfast time, snacks and drinks available during the day, pool towels provided. Maria had a list of recommended local restaurants to suit all budgets and also a list of things to do and places to visit over a five day period which was invaluable. During our three week tour of Portugal we stoppped in six properties and this is the one that was our favourite.

We had a beautifully private room in the garden, next to the pool with its own terrace. The room as lovely the only drawback being that we had a fan instead of air conditioning and the weather was very hot. This will not stop us going back but it would have been lovely to have had proper air con.

Don't expect too good restaurants in the village Mesão Frio close to Casa De Canilhas.

It was even more beautiful than it looked on the website. A perfect location which we will definitely come back to with other friends and family. The atmosphere was so peaceful and it was the best view of the River Douro that we found. The rooms were charming and comfortable. Very helpful staff.

Not keen on having to share breakfast table with other guests.

The Casa de Canilhas is a beautiful guesthouse overlooking one of the most incredible views in the world. The owners and staff are very friendly and made us feel very welcome and relaxed during our stay. I would highly recommend!!

No negatives - Totally enjoyable experience

Stunning location overlooking the valley. Swimming pool and breakfast were good. Hotel rooms were clean and well appointed

No on site parking which is a little of a concern as you park in a road layby

Beautiful home, gorgeous decor throughout, magnificent view of the Douro River below. Owners obviously proud of their B&B, and justifyably so. Welcoming and helpful, called cab to go into town for dinner. Can also walk to town but my elderly parents were with us. Rooms comfortable and immaculate. Regret we were there only one night - would love to go back for a week.

Fantastic location with sweeping views of the Douro valley. Beautifully manicured outdoor spaces, lovely house and gorgeous pool. Our room was in an outbuilding just below the main house -- very private and with a wonderful bathtub! We enjoyed sharing breakfast time with fellow guests and meeting them at the local restaurant recommended by our excellent hosts. It was a pleasant walk into the village where we also encountered a local folk dance and music fiesta on one of our two evenings in Mesao Frio. We highly recommend this charming b&B.

Parking was up on the road outside the property but not a big problem for us. A bottle of mineral water in the room would have been appreciated as there is no minibar and we were not in the main house.
