Very quiet location, friendly reception from the owner. Room comfortable and clean. Excellent access to Pinhao and from there up the river Douro. Also easy access by car to Palacio Vila Real, and eventually back to Oporto (all motorway)
Sabrosa itself is very quiet so there isn't much choice of where to have dinner. Although Pinhao has a few restaurants and is about 15 mins drive away down a very windy road.
'Family' feel of the location - the host, Christina, could not do enough for the guests. We ate there - there aren't any restaurants in the village - but you do need to give prior warning if you want to do so. The food was good, although more expensive than many restaurants in Portugal because it was prepared specially for the guests.
Only down side was the mattress, which was a bit firmer than I like - didn't stop me sleeping well though!
We loved the beautiful historical quinta. The location was green and quiet and very central in the most beautiful part of the Port region. Christina prepares very nice itineraries for her guests which lead you via quiet back roads to the highlights of the region. The house is decorated with antiques and our room was very comfortable. After a day of sightseeing it is nice to relax by the pool or read a book by the cosy fireplace.
We had dinner once which whas nice but maybe a bit overprized for local standards.
Meal lovely (but pricey). But a lovely place to stay.
Good hiking opportunities in the surrounding area. The host provided us with trail maps and written guidance. The evening meals were good, served in large quantities. The room was clean.
Bed was uncomfortable. The rooms overlooking the rear of the property (as opposed to the courtyard) were exposed to noise. Lunch and dinner were far more expensive than the restaurant-quality food available in the surrounding towns/villages. There were no coffee/tea-making facilities or minibar. Wifi could not be received in the room or in the communal lounge. The host only accepted cash, not credit card. It was very difficult to get around without a hired car.
The hotel is in a beautiful location with excellent walking possibilities. The rooms and bathrooms are spotlessly clean.
It is very difficult to stay here without a car as it is isolated in a village with no amenities. The hotel has no bar so it is difficult to obtain soft or other drinks. It would be useful to have a fridge available stocked with cold drinks and tea and coffee making facilities in the lounge or bedrooms. The evening meals and packed lunches on offer are quite expensive. The beds and pillows are rather hard.
It is a safe and pleaceful place to stay. With a stately décor it remembers a museum. The room and bathroom were big.
Since it is located in a high altitude at night is better to have some warm clothes. There aren't many things to do, even when you ask for some advices or the tracks that are mentioned in the website they don't know. The breakfast could include regional products. There isn't a menu where you can consult the price of water or other drinks or snacks. If you arrive late is better to have dinner first, since the dinner must be booked previously on the day before and the menu is chosen by the cook. There is no lunch available. The mattress is too soft and bad for your back. The bathroom had only 1 soap even knowing that we were two. There’s no wc in the pool area. It is overpriced, it isn't worth 90euros/night, and it seems that you are in someone's house where the owners are all over you.
The owner of the hotel come to receive us in person when we arrive and was very helpful. The house was very charming and the rooms unique.
It was difficult to find and there were no restaurants around - you needed a car to go around.
excellent breakfast with fresh and delicious food in a nobel environment
nothing related to the house, but be aware that it is located at 500 m and can be quite chilly in the evenings
Beautiful historic house with spacious rooms, and nice communal sitting room and dining room. Our room had a lovely view over the valley. Christina was a wonderful host, the food was home prepared. The walks and drives around this lovely area were most enjoyable and Christina provided excellent directions and maps.
Not much to list. The shower enclosure was very small in a large bathroom which meant showering was cramped which is a pity because there was lots of room for a bigger shower in the bathroom.
The Quinta is in a beautiful setting in the countryside with a lovely pool. The house is very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. It was nice to relax there after a busy day and meet other guests over a port on the verandah. The breakfast was delicious with home baked bread and cakes all served in a beautiful dining room.
It's a little drive from the Douro river so no river views but otherwise I would certainly recommend it.
Everything - the location, the owners, the breakfast - everything. If you are interested in Portuguese wine and the Douro - you have come to the right place. There is so much history around this around - mind blowing. Absolutely clean, beautifully restored old estate.
We didn't have wireless internet in our room - so we had to sit around the beautiful piano in the entrance hall to be able to connect... But everything else was just PERFECT!
Very relaxing, excellent walking routes.
The home cooked dinners are over priced at EUR 30 per person. The host could provide more information on local activities such as wine tasting.
