The hotel is in a great location, less than 10 minutes walk from Barrio Alto, and not much further from other main areas in the city. It's a lovely, old-fashioned hotel with character. Staff were great and breakfast was pretty good too.
The wifi didn't really work in our room, but we didn't ask about this so it might have been fixable. This wasn't a problem for us, and might actually have been a good thing!
Reasonable price, good breakfast, friendly staff.
Ground floor room a bit noisy occasionally. Request upper floors.
The decoration is elegant and nice to have a big sofa in the room.
The key system is old fashion. Wifi is not available in the room but only in the lobby.
Location was superb, could walk to and from the Barrio Alto. Friendly helpful staff ready with a smile. Breakfast standard fare for Europe but a beautiful dining room.
Lack of pressure in shower was the only minor complaint.
Location, comfort, cleanness,good bathroom
Breakfast could be more improved with more choice of foods and better quality - it is always the same without e.g. fresh pastries which are so typical for Portugal
We recently stayed at this hotel and loved it! Fantastic location, best breakfast we had in Europe and super clean. I can't say anything bad about this hotel other than the bed was a little but hard. Beautifully old world appointed hotel with very helpful staff. Great value for money.
We were welcomed by lovely welcome fruits. A kind receptionist let us choose our guest room, arriving at the hotel. Interior of guest room was fantastic and it took only 10 minutes walk from the Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara.
This hotel had a luxury, lovely and sophiscated atmonsphere, however there seemed to have a problem of drainage facilities. A bathroom sometimes had a slight ordor.
Very friendly staff, nice and cosy atmosphere. Definitely not a hip place, but very charming and very Portugese! Great breakfast room...
Breakfast is good but a little boring on the third day.
Everything. It's old, not very modern, but has a wonderful faded elegance to it. The room was big and comfortable, the staff nice, the breakfast good, in a beautiful dining room.
The hotel is not very accessible, it was difficult to get around with a baby and the stroller. No lift and narrow doors.
The staff are friendly and efficient. The room in which we stayed was spacious and very comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent, and there are a couple of very good restaurants within walking distance.
A unique and very nice hotel with many great restaurants around the corner. Not luxury, but has focused on exactly what our priorities: A fresh bathroom, new soundproof windows, fast Wifi. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast including omelets, yogurt and fresh bread. We highly recommend this hotel!
The bed was rater small for two persons... No elevator, but the staff helped us with the bags.
Bedroom furniture and decoration were wisely chosen to allow a relaxed and comforting stay. The breakfast lounge was bright and airy, also a relaxed atmosphere. The location was within easy reach of the Metro, cultural, tourist and wine/bar/restaurant attractions.
This hotel is in an old building in which modern conveniences have been provided, while skillfully retaining and respecting the architecture, decoration and ambiance of another era (typical tile work, high ceilings, tall doors, brass doorknobs, dark wood furnishings, lush textiles). Paolo and Sandra provided kind, always cheerful, above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty service. Breakfast buffet was reasonably good, with a weakness or two (see negatives). Overall, a pleasant and delightfully atmospheric place to stay, and I would return.
The beauty and ambiance of the hotel itself may be offset just a bit by its location toward one end of Bairro Alto's higher streets, which makes for a steep climb or obligatory funicular tram or taxi ride when returning from lower levels. (The climb on foot is very scenic and charming in its own right, but tiring after a day of sightseeing.) Just something to be aware of... Also, some kind of hot food, particularly eggs, would have been enjoyable at the breakfast buffet! I found it odd that while effort was made to prepare omelettes, they were then brought out cold and served cold. (Maybe this is a Portuguese practice I'm not aware of?) Eggs and meat served and kept warm in a chafing dish, as is provided at most breakfast buffets, would have been much more enjoyable.
The atmosphere of the hotel is like entering a private home of a wealthy noble family from the 19th century. Our room was really nice, the bed was super comfortable although a bit on the small side. However, that should be no problem for those on a romantic city trip. The staff is friendly, the room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast fine, although I believe the fruits were not fresh but came from a tin. It's centrally located and has easy public transport connections - also to the airport with the metro from metrostop Rata, which is only a five minute walk from the hotel.
Hotel was quaint & very comfortable, breakfast good and staff most helpful.
Nothing, it's an old hotel so some noise from other rooms but no problems.
Casa de Sao Mamede is a charming, small hotel located directly in the popular Principe Real district, less than a 10 minute walk from the busy Bairro Alto. The hotel is built inside an old mansion. Although there are a few things that could be improved or refreshed, I think it's a steal for 65 Euro (what I paid for a single in July): air conditioned, private bathrooms, a beautiful dining area where breakfast is served, and a warm helpful staff. Highly recommended to those looking for something a few blocks from the noisy neighbourhoods.
In my room was a welcome card with a small detail offered by the hotel. The recepcionist was gentle. Very good location
Not havin a glass and a bottle of water in my room.
This hotel is easily accessible from the Rato metro stop. The interior is quite pretty, especially the dining room on the first floor. Everything is very, very clean and comfortable. Wi-fi is available at no cost, but coverage is spotty in guest rooms.
Roominess. Proximity to the Metro. Accommodating staff. Cafes close by.
Admittedly, the Casa de Sao Mamede isn't the newest hotel on the block. There are a few signs of wear. But our stay there was flawless, and you certainly get bang for your buck--or more-o for your Euro as the case may be.
The staff were excellent, location was within walking distance of Bairro Alto, perfect!
The ambience and decor of the hotel was wonderful. The rooms were set out well and were most attractive. The location of the hotel was good.It was very hot whilst we visited and the hotel was cool.Staff were great
Nothing to report
The character of the building and rooms. Bedroom and bathroom spacious and furnished in keeping with the period of the building. Staff very pleasant.
The location is Lisbon's best location in the heart of Principe Real and Bairro Alto. Walking distance to Chiado. Staff is incredibly nice. The rooms (renovated) are perfect and very comfortable.
If you have a car is tough to park. If you stay in the front rooms it might be street noisy. Internet (free) is not accessible everywhere.
Great location at end of metro line. Good standard of hotel with character and charm. Good choice for breakfast. Lovely room with four poster and excellent shower.
Noisy roads but OK at night if windows closed and AC on.
Good bed, good water pressure, well meaning staff and GREAT location
Walls like cardboard, no amenities like a box of tissues or a pot to make hot water, not a good breakfast (fruit salad from a can? in Portugal? no good bread - in Portugal? and a very difficult key to use.
