We loved the location and were thankful that we read enough other reviews to be comfortable to know to go straight to the little grocer adjacent to the apartment to ask for the keys and leave the woman the money. She was so kind but did not speak a word of English. Thankful I had a cousin with us to speak Portugese. It was nice that there was a washer and dryer. There is a restaurant not far before it and the man there was very friendly and came right up to us offering help. What a great experience!!

My Portugese cousin drove us in and it took us quite a while to find the location as we did not understand that you had to actually go through the castle gates to get to the apartment. It was stated that it was within the walls but it just took us awhile to find it

The location in the Castelo area ist great. Once we found the 2 elevators that connected us to the lower part of town, there was no disadvantage to being up on the hill and we enjoyed the views. The grocery store next door is well stocked and the owners are very friendly. They don't speak any English, but they are motivated and friendly.

The apartment was cold and damp. There was an odor of "wet dog" that no amount of airing could get rid of. As it has only 2 very small windows to the front (you're on the hill, but have no view at all) it felt like you were in a dark and musty cave. We were only given 1 towel / person for our 5 day stay and the towel never really got dry.... After the 2 day they start to get a bit ripe. We were glad we had our own with us. The apartment is on the ground floor across from a workshop that starts early in the morning. The cobblestone streets are nice but when the cars drive right past the window looking for parking - and turn around right in front of your window and drive back because there is only one parking spot and it is usually full - it can be very loud. No sleeping late (past 7 a.m.) The owner didn't show up the whole time we were there. The very friendly people from the grocer next door gave us the keys and then we were on our own. There was no information material in the apartment - no maps, info what to do with the garbage, info about the elevators to the lower town (they are hard to find if you don't know they are there!!). That would be "guest friendly". Make sure you find out where the fuse box is while it is still daylight - if you use the water cooker and heater at the same time you'll be left in the dark and need to know where the fuse box is. Even though we had asked several times before our stay for bank details so we could transfer the money, we never got an answer. On the last day the owner sent us a text asking us to pay the entire amount for our stay in cash to the people in the grocery store. So we had to go out and find a cash machine. The price was pretty high for what the apartment offered. At the end, we felt a hotel would have been better value for the money. Although we would stay in the Castle neighborhood again, we would definitely choose a different hotel or apartment.

Loved having a well appointed little apartment during our stay. It was quiet at night, comfortable and clean. Every detail was thought off, an extra umbrella in case we forgot ours, a nice coffee maker, well appointed kitchen including a corkscrew, abundant towels and linens.... It felt like it was our own little home during our stay. It was very convenient having the grocery steps away from the apartment. We purchased excellent wine, breakfast ingredients and other necessities for our stay. They had everything you might want.

It was a little bit confusing checking in. We arrived and were directed to a little grocery store and the storekeepers immediately got on their cell phones to call the innkeeper who was not there? They told us not to worry, all was being taken care of while we waited outside wondering what was going on. Not knowing that the storekeeper was the innkeepers mother and representative, I was admittedly nervous until this was cleared up. The grocers were wonderful to us once we got acquainted and we felt like we were saying goodbye to good friends by the time we left.

Apartment had everything you could need for a comfortable stay.

Finding where you have to go is difficult. We had to haul luggage uphill over cobblestones to get inside the castle and then try to figure out where the people who were supposed to meet us were. Once we we finally had that figured out we were delighted with the apartment for the first night. The next two nights there were tenants above us whose heavy footsteps in the middle of the night kept us awake. We actually left a day early even though we had paid for 4nights because we couldn't bear the thought of another night of interrupted sleep. Carpets are needed to muffle the sound or ask for quiet time between 2am and 7am would help. This is too bad because it really is a lovely apartment I a great location.

Excellent location within the castle walls- but don't bring your car! Small but comfortable apartment, well-equipped kitchen. useful general store next door.

It would have been nice if the owner had told us who to pay!

The Location is simply wonderful, you couldnt ask for better, but then, I was looking for the feel of old Lisbon so it is quant and quiet. Its uphill, about 10-15 minute walk from the center so be prepared for this or get the Lisboa Card so you dont have to fork out for buses and trams too much.

The studio in general. It is very dark. The electricity kept going off because the fuse cant cope much. The tv has only 5 channels all in Portuguese. The kettle and toaster didnt work and there is no oven. If you want to cook its not any way ideal. The shower goes cold very soon so one may have a quick shower. The staff are not helpful, i requested some towels as we only had one each but they never showed up. The Wi-Fi doesnt work either, I was so surprised as it had great reviews but maybe that is for the apartments. Still not to have any requests , one, is simply bad business.

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment, three adults and two toddlers. Very nice and clean, in an unique location (oposite the entrance to the castle). Fully equiped, even with two baby cots and a safety baby door for the stairs. Would definitly stay there again.

Absolutely no access with your own car. Taxi or bus is fine though.

Incredible Apartment!! Very sweet and charming! We had a very romantic experience!! Its near from everything and the neighborhood has a marvelous view to the low city. The castle is very close (10 min walking). Theres a supermarket with everything you need 5 minutes walking. The place is perfect for 2 to 4 guests. We strongly recomend this one!!

We stayed in the apartment at number Costa do Castelo 94. Its lovely apartment and full of character. very clean and had all we needed. The location is good as its near the castle but also close to Alfama. The guy taking care of us Rui could not be there to greet us in person but was very helpful via email and responsive to all questions. A good experience all round.

The location while great can be a bit noisey and we had to buy ear plugs on the 3rd night after two sleepness nights! there is a slight smell of damp but I found that went away quickly when you aired the place a little.

Staying in a studio, with the possibility to cook our own meals. The location, inside the walls of Castelo Sao Jorge. The welcome and good advices given by Joao. The coolness of the studio even in July.

Construction work next door that woke us up pretty early on weekdays.

We stayed for 6 nights and loved it. You were able to experience life as a resident rather than simply a tourist. We used the grocer next door every day and stayed in a few nights eating the foods available from their store. On our last day we had a flight out at 22:40. The grocers (part owners of the apartment) suggested we stay longer than the 11:30 check out and use the apartment until we left for the airport. No one was coming until the next day. This was so helpful and generous. We also made a good friend in Filipe from the restaurant around the corner. The Portuguese people are very friendly. We loved our stay in Portugal and would recommend this hotel to everyone who plans a stay in Lisbon.

Clean. Secure. Comfortable. Spacious. Modern. Well equipped. Interesting location and close to town center. Value for money. Best place we've stayed during a month in Europe. Has two bedrooms and porticot so would be great for young families too

Location overlooking the gate and castle wall. Large, full furnished apartment, clean, feel of neighborhood and not big city. The owners were a delight.
