One night stay in Royal Suite. Amazing room and furniture, extra few Euros well worth the money. Room had tea & coffee, jug of fresh milk from reception. Has own free parking, unusual for Porto, but space limited, got in but wished we'd hired a compact car. There's building work, mostly exterior, ongoing. Only noticable from our room with window open, but quite loud in breakfast room.
Castle experience Beautiful design and furnishing Very friendly and helpful personnel Feels like at home
Breakfast is very subtle Location is not perfect - the streets around look dirty and unhabitated My room was extremely small - keep in mind, you'll hardly be able to stay for long.
In the breakfast delicious tart
The antique decor.
The builders talking outside our room at six in the morning. Staff were extremely apologetic at checkout without any prompting from us.
The breakfast was excellent with lots of variety. Safe and secure parking with cameras. Close walk to the downtown area. Unique architecture and grounds
The staff were extremely helpful, both the interior and the exterior of the 135 year old Hotel uniquely beautiful. Excellent breakfast and comes very highly recommend
The cat was sure friendly.
The internet was spotty.
The décor and character of the Castelo was excellent
I wanted an old Portuguese hotel with character and this the Castle has plenty. The room was lovely and warm and the staff very friendly. I was unfortunately unwell whilst we were there and the staff went out of their way to help. If you don't want to stay in a typical chain hotel but want something with a difference then I recommend this hotel, it is excellent value. Some people have said the standard rooms are not good. We had a standard room in the tower, in fact we had booked a twin room and we had two rooms, one with a large double bed and one with a single bed. The other standard rooms are in the process of being refurbished.
Built by a Brazilian industrialist, this beautifully restored property is a great place to stay: friendly, helpful staff; clean rooms; on-site parking; and delicious breakfast.
So many stairs! Our room was on the 3rd floor and no lift is available. It was very difficult carrying bags up steep, narrow stairs. So pack light!
Very welcoming and helpful staff. Amazing decor, beautifully maintained. Good location not far from the centre. Parking available on site.
A bit hard to find. Difficult if you have a lot of luggage, lots of stairs to climb. Breakfast was adequate but not outstanding.
not being told when booking of building work that started at 7.30
sitting in the garden with a glass of port, looking up at the moon and clouds floating by on halloween
The hotel's a bit out of the way from everything. Not too much of a problem as a 5 euro taxi ride gets you to the river but a shame to be so out of the way. Half the rooms are being renovated, so we were in the annex, which was fine but lacking a little of the character we'd booked the hotel for.
We absolutely loved that place so so charming with its azuleros and so typically Portuguese .The garden too was a lovely place to relax. Very near the metro stationwhich gets you anywhere you want ,we liked this feature but equally you could walk to the center of Porto in 20 minutes. A great location and such a nice hotel .The breakfast is delicious ,varied and copious. we would love to go back there for our next trip to Porto
Staying in a castle is the best
Very unusual and unique hotel. Even with renovations in progress, this hotel is worth a try. Located within moderate walking distance of Porto's sites and shopping. The hotel is uniquely furnished with very interesting and stunning decor. Simple, but with a luxurious feel, the hotel is comfortable and clean. The breakfast was very good. Recommend this hotel for just the experience of staying there. Nice!
Renovation work is noisy at times, but should be beautiful when completed.
A completely different experience from the usual hotels. Castelo Santa Catarina is full of antiques, chandeliers and wood panelling and has a unique character. In a good location, handy for metro, helpful staff and good choice of breakfast. Good experience overall and would recommend.
We had a room on the 3rd floor with 60 steps to climb up a steep staircase. Not ideal when you reach a certain age as we have! A lift would be ideal but doubt if one could be installed in this property. Next time we'll request a garden room.
The hotel is spectacular. An old family home which has been converted into an hotel. Has an almost 50's feel about it. It is gradually being modernised. It offers a very good buffet breakfast, all for a very reasonable price.
Nothing to dislike really. The courtyard bedrooms although comfortable are a bit dated. These no doubt will be upgraded in due course. Hotel is a bit far from the city centre but only 5 minutes away from a metro station.
Love the decoration of the room and the hotel. It's like I was transported in time to centuries ago. I felt like royalty. The service was great and breakfast delicious. Parking is available so that was a plus.
Although it is considered walking distance from the historic center, I felt it was a bit far away. A lot of walking is required.
The Castelo is an interesting building with a lovely garden. The breakfast is filling and there is a variety of different foods, including the delicious Portuguese custard tarts.
Paying the same for the smaller, musty garden room, with cracked tiles in the crowded bathroom and badly in need of renovation as compared with the other garden room, at least half as big again, with large bathroom, high tech shower and a much more pleasant smell!
Staff were helpful with bags and professional. Breakfast selection very good. The breakfast room is spectacular. Good value for money.
Everything was beautiful.
Lovely old building, great garden
Steep and narrow stairs
It is a castle! It is really a castle! Wonderfull interior in public space, beautiful garden, hearty breakfast to the sounds of classical music and chimes vintage watch; you will meet a man like butler at reception, if you're lucky ;)
We have some problems with wi-fi (we lived in the garden).
The building, furniture and its extraordinary gardens. Amazing property in the middle of the city. Excellent and helpful staff. Great breakfast. Nearby metro station. We could leave the car in the private parking after the check out. We should stay 2-3 nights if we could. Good value for money.
