The staff were very friendly. The location is great. The air conditioning worked which is not always the case with some hotels. No secure place to store bags when the room is not ready. They were left beside a public entrance to the bar.

The reception staff is excellent. They are friendly, efficient and seamlessly multilingual. They always graciously answered our questions, even when they were swamped with customers. They helped us find vegetarian restaurants and figure out the local transit. The hotel is all non smoking - really - not just in the sense "Today we call it non smoking" and you walk into your room gagging on ash, squinting in haze of the previous guest's 20-pack bender. The location is excellent. You can take the train or metro to the beautiful Sao Bento station and walk (downhill, about 5-10 minutes) to the hotel. The hotel is minutes away from the stock exchange palace, Cathedral of Sao Francisco and tram (which will take you along the river to the ocean). You can take a short walk to the mega-touristy river restaurants featuring local ports (but there are plenty of excellent, affordable restaurants all over town). You can easily take a bike ride, stroll or run along the Douro, and a lovely (and vertiginous) walk across the Bridge Dom Luis into Gaia. The breakfast room was pleasant and the breakfast itself was good (lots of bread, cereals, cheese, cold cuts, seasonal fresh fruit, juices, tea, bland auto drip coffee). Our room was clean and comfortable. It was by no means luxurious, but we didn't spend that much time there. This hotel is a great deal - highly recommended for a vacation in Porto.

The staff at the front desk were wonderful and spoke excellent English, even better than most Americans. The location is close to the river and yet within easy walking distance to the cathedral and other activities within the central city. Hop On/Hop Off transportation is available to see all the sights and stop #1 is an easy 2 block walk from the hotel. The only negative is the size of the room. It is very small, and for a couple staying together, there is little room to walk around. We stayed there five nights but got use to the compact space after awhile.

I liked its central location (near to the river and in the old city), the efficient assistance of the reception desk staff with resepct to onwards travel arrangements to Vigo, the self-service breakfast, and excellent coffee! I didn't like the inadequate sound-proofing of the room I stayed in, which was at the front of the hotel and subject to quite a lot of late night street life noises.

Older hotel, but nice big room and newly renovated(?) bathroom. Excellent location close to Ribeira, river, bridge dom Luiz, Gaia, shoppingstreet etc. Also close to the first stop of the hop-on-hop-off buses(which are excellent also). Pastelaria and farmacia in same street. Streetview from our room, absolutely no noise because of isolated windows. Windows could be opened. Breakfast: GOOD cofee, hot milk. Sweets and white bread. Ham, cheese and fresh orangejuice. :-) Free(30 min) internet-computer in the lobby, helpful and englishspeaking staff. Bar with big tv(usually on sports channel) on ground floor.

Close to the port and attractions (though uphill from the port, so the walk up at night was just a little annoying). Room was large (actually had 2 bathrooms, which was odd but nice), bed comfortable The uphill walk

The location is very good for exploring interesting areas of Porto and easy stroll to the river side where many interesting events taking place and most of the restaurants are situated. The staff is helpful and polite as you would expect but nothing exceptional. The breakfast is included and very basic. One good touch is that you can squeeze your own orange juice! Everything was ver very clean. We had a pleasant view of the river from our window. Our room was 6 floors up and we had no problem with noise. Room had air conditioning. The room was rather small. The attached shower/toilet really tiny. You can not close the door if the seat is down! The breakfast room is very small and cramped. We paid 90 euro per night but I think for what we got it should not have been more than 60 euro per night. They get away with this high price because of their location.

Location was perfect for accessing both sides of the river and all tourist facilities. We had a spacious and well appointed room but had requested a room away from the lift and on a higher floor so ended up with a corner room which was two rooms that they had turned into one. It really was very good. Breakfast was typical European and was more than adequate. Wifi did not always work and staff were not able to help. I would certainly stay here again.

This hotel is very well located for the Ribeira area of Porto which was our reason for choosing it. The staff were very helpful. The discounted parking in a nearby public car park was a great saving on the daily rate. The hotel is a conversion of an old building and extra floors have been squeezed in. Windows in our room extended from the floor to waist height - it was gloomy. They also opened to floor level which would be a real safety concern for children. The shower in the tiny bathroom hardly worked. Breakfast in the small breakfast room was the worst we encountered in Portugal. There was no wifi in the room as advertised. Poor value for money at €90.

Our room had a wonderful view of the Ribeira and the port wine caves in Villa Nova de Gaia. A very excellent location to many nearby restaurants, points of interest, and tour bus companies. The internet connection was good and the breakfast selection wonderful, fresh squeezed orange juice. The front desk staff were helpful in answering our questions regarding how to get to the Campanha station. As noted by other reviewers the breakfast room service was spotty and many times we had to clear a table to have some place to eat. Housekeeping was also a bit hit or miss in the room but nothing that we couldn't deal with.

We loved staying at Hotel da bolsa, it was close to the rebiera were all the restaurants are, the rooms are fantasic, great size and the beds are really comfy, we also had a lovely view of the river room 306, breakfast is great for Euope and they are very helpfull, with sight seeing, its a great place to stay, we would stay there again, you can also pay 10 euro a day for there car parking, and there is wifi, and the red bus tours leave only 50meters away and you can buy tickets from hotel.
