We stayed in Lisbon in January, and our stay in Dear Lisbon was perfect. The location is great, walking distance to all places of interest and close to tram. Yes it is not the easiest to access, in a small alley at the top of a hill (typical of Lisbon charming city centre), but that what makes it great. The staff was very helpful, with tips on where to go, how to get there. All in all a great stay, in a fabulous city.
A tiny bit more effort on the breakfast (although still good value for money)
Good location in Bairro Alto, near tram 28. Lovelingly decorated clean guesthouse, good beds and tasty breakfast.
Location might be a problem for people with mobility problems, due to steep hills and uneven pavement in nearby streets.
Super charming place, good location and very professional and helpful staff. We will def come back. Gracias!!
Building work in the morning but we slept with the window open...
the b&b is absolutely beautiful - clean, stylish and modern and impeccably decorated. I liked the co-op-y feel to it where there's a shared bar and kitchen with an honour code on what you consume. great location by lovely bairro and baixa neighbourhoods.
it's a bit of a pain to get to though quite manageable. cabs can only get to within about 40 yards of it so suitcases have to travel up or down a steep cobblestone slope for a short stretch to get to or from the b&b.
I love the building, an old house beautifully renovated with love. Pedro and the staff are really friendly. It's a nice place to stay in an excellent location.
everything was great, and manager of hotel is absolutely great!!
few power plugs bad noise isolation
Lovely staff & a warm welcome greeted me on my arrival. Pedro & Maria & their team get top marks for my very brief stay with them. Excellent breakfasts, gorgeous furnishings & a very good night's sleep await you at Dear Lisbon B&B.
The access is by foot only. The area is on steep, cobbled roads, so anyone with a physical impairment may have difficulty accessing the hotel.
- The neighborhood is very typical of Lisbon - Nice staff - Cool breakfast makes you feel at home
- It's very hilly to get there walking from subway or AeroBus station - Small room
Very friendly and personal service Quiet location Clean and well maintained
No lift Very narrow stairways Access to taxi is uphill The breakfast coffee needs upgrading
Hospitality of all the staff who were amazing. The rooms were very comfortable. Location was good but quite difficult to locate the property. Maybe a detailed street map on the website would be a good idea
Trying to find the property in the dark was not easy.
Very friendly staff. Really were of good help in suggesting the plases to eat and for Faro. Ask them and book the table, because the Faro place they suggested was very small. We had a wonderful evening. We loved also the lady in the breakfast who really cared of me when I was ill.
We had a lovely welcome the first time we stayed, even though we arrived around the time that reception closed in the evening and were given a glass of chilled wine. The manager was extremely attentive and helpful on all occasions. Breakfast was lovely. The place exuded charm and atmosphere.
It is a bit tucked away and hard to find, so it is important if arriving by taxi to come in on Rua de Marcos Marreiros, off Rua Poco dos Negros which then leads onto the street. At times this is blocked anyhow and the last bit may have to be done on foot. The room is well designed, but has no hanging space. Similarly the bathroom would benefit from hooks on the wall.
Loved the decor, comfy rooms, excellent staff. Cosy homely atmosphere.
Quite difficult to find. Steep walk up the hill to centre.
Amazing place, beautifully decorated, smiling staff, classical music for breakfast. and a very helpful manager, that gave us great advice on everything we asked him. Thank you!
Location, (easy walking distance from main attractions)decor, (very stylish) friendliness of staff, quality of breakfast. Helpfulness in booking taxi, lending umbrella and adapter (I had bought wrong one)
It was unfortunate about the building work which was going on in surroinding properties which did make it noisy in the mornings and make the terrace uninviting.
We had a great stay at Dear Lisbon in the end of September 2014. The guesthouse is perfectly located below the Bairro Alto and Chiado. Not easy to find straight away as it is tucked away up one alley and down another. Excellent location for tram 28 which stops at end of alley. Room was spotless and a good size. Go for room 10, the best. Pedro is an excellent host as are all the staff. Very helpful with directions and places to go.If you're looking for a personal place to stay a bit outside of the hustle and bustle of Baixa/Bairro Alto but still within an easy walking distance of all attractions then I highly recommend Dear Lisbon. Thanks again for a wonderful stay, we had such a nice time in Lisbon! Andrew & Lynne
No reflection on Dear Lisbon as it was perfect. My only negative was the taxi transfer from the airport to Dear Lisbon. Beware of being ripped off. We were charged 25 Euros. We were in fact only charged 13.90 Euros for the return.
A little hard to find but a gem when you get there. Staff was awesome, helpful, welcoming and made us feel right at home and well cared for. Wonderful outdoor patio. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious. Hotel immaculately clean, good bed. One of the top places out of 40+ Europe hotels I have stayed at. Would definitely stay there again.
Staff, funky decor, but pokey, stairs very noisy, heard guest coming in very late at night
Poor location, very cramped, not enough space in dining room, totally dependant on guest coming at different times and weather permitting, outside tables, poor coffee undrinkable, fruit rotten In fruit bowl for three days. Leftovers for next days breakfast. Meat and cheese left out for hours, not covered (fly's) breakfast kaos disorganised,
The only slight issue is it's not that easy to arrive with luggage due to the hilly road, actually more hilly than expected. Get a taxi will help.
Staff was very nice.room was fine. Good breakfast
The location was a bit difficult for older travelers. Taxi couldn't find it. Practically threw us out the door and said it was that way. Very steep alley Togo up and down
Great location. Nice breakfast, and the lady serving it was really lovely!
Since six am there was heavy noise coming from within te hotel, I believe there were guests checking out and it was really noisy, the doors could have better sound proof. Also the manager wasn't very gracious when we got there at 1pm just asking if early check in was an option. He was quite dry and even though he ended up letting us check in we decided to go out for lunch first as he didn't makes us feel welcomed. Rooms are a bit small. There is construction work right behind the hotel and they were loud! Thankfully they didn't work on Sunday.
clean, helpful staff; location 5 minutes walk from barrio alto, breakfast buffet a good start to the day.
Minor down was room 2 little luggage space
We had a great stay at Dear Lisbon in the end of August 2014. This guesthouse is perfectly located below the Bairro Alto and Chiado. Sure, it's a bit tricky to find at first and the streets are steep - but so are all streets of Lisbon! The guesthouse is tucked away in an alley, just a couple of minutes walk from the beautiful viewpoint Miradouro de Santa Catarina where you can have a drink with a great view of the city. It's also conveniently located close to the Cais do Sodre station, only about 10-15 minutes walk, which made it easy to take the train. It's also a short walk to tram line 28 which takes you around the city. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated, the bathroom in perfect condition. The small garden was perfect for breakfast in the mornings and a beer in the evening. There is a small self service bar for the guests, which worked perfectly for us. Breakfast was nice with fresh juice, yoghurt, muesli and cereals, fresh fruit, bread, spreadings, cake etc. What really made all the difference was the wonderful help and attention we got from Pedro. He printed maps, gave us hints and tips for restaurants and sights, told us about a free outdoor concert, helped us with the metro tickets - everything! The last night he even helped us get tickets for Benfica-Sporting derby the next day - I can't describe how happy my husband was! (Thank you Pedro, it was great - even I enjoyed it!) So, if you're looking for a personal place to stay a bit outside of the touristy hustle and bustle of Baixa/Bairro Alto but still within an easy walking distance, I warmly recommend Dear Lisbon. Thanks again for a wonderful stay, we had such a nice time in Lisbon! Alexandra & Andreas
Apart from being a little difficult to find, we loved everything. We did our research beforehand so had directions and a map. We were welcomed by Gracia with a glass of fresh orange juice and a slice of cake as we arrived so early, and Gracia kindly stored our bag somewhere safe. When we checked into our room later in the day, we were welcomed again by Pedro with a chilled glass of wine and discovered that Gracia had put our bag in our room already. The room was cool, comfortable, clean, gorgeous bed linen and towels, modern quirky decor, quiet... I just loved everything. Breakfast is fresh, plentiful, delicious. It felt like home rather than a guest house. I loved the honesty bar and the cool terraced garden was a lovely place to sit at breakfast time, or after a hot day in the city. I couldn't fault a thing and would highly recommend it and will most certainly be returning :-)
