A fantastic weekend break at the Farol hotel. There were a few minor details that could have been better but we had an excellent conversation with the manager about the hotel on this and she agreed and explained about the work they are currently doing to improve the minor issues. Overall an excellent location, staff and food and would recommend this to anyone whom would like to have a relaxing break.

The hotel is brilliantly situated on the very edge of the sea - you couldn't get closer without actually being immersed. It is only a short walk to the marina, local museums and the town. The rooms are very comfortable, the facilities are good, breakfasts are excellent, and there is free Wi-Fi throughout. The staff are friendly, responsive and very helpful. We have stayed at the Farol several times in the past and would definitely recommend it. We were slightly disappointed by both the food (in comparison with previous visits) and service on the one occasion that we ate in the hotel restaurant, but there was a large party booked and it may have been an off-night.

Great location, great food..sushi, great bartender and cocktails. Try the ginger Sangria. See the bad bits Poor service at restaurant, given table at top which was empty and cold. Booked table in main room but ignored, plenty of space so no excuse, very poor restaurant manager. On reporting issue only received a token response so did not eat there again.....their loss and they did not even try to make amends, or get back some business, very poor. Mattresses very hard and pillows for giants, if you get the attic rooms, watch your head.

Absolutely superb location by the waters edge. General views and the recreation area on the seaside of the hotel is what makes Farol stand out. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Very disapponted by the hotel from a design perspective. Our room was all white and very basic, no decorations or traces of design whatsoever. Mattress was uneven due to broken springs. We've stayed at most hotels and guesthouses in Cascais and was especially looking forward to trying out Farol. If it hadn't been for it's superb location we would have been very disapponted by the overall feel, those 5 stars taken into consideration!

The room was spacious and the bed confortable. We booked and payed for a room with sea view. Instead we were given a room with a balcony to the street and a side window with a (partial) view to the sea. It was unnacceptable for the price we payed for it. The room should've been heated, instead we were so unconfortable with the cold, until the air conditioned heated the room. The breakfast was poor, not 5 star quality.

Everything about this hotel was amazing. The staff were very obliging & polite, they couldn't do enough for us & we were made to feel special. The only thing I noticed were we didn't have tea making facilities in our room.

Great bed, wonderfull pillows, nice amenities in the toilett. Also, my room had a nice, big terrace. The credit card I used to book the room was in deed charged before check- out - I don't agree with this at all, it should only be charge in case of no-show. My room was close to the main stairs and restaurant, could get a bit noisy also in the morning as the cleaning ladies were in the corridors.

Good location, next to the sea and peaceful. Booking.com sold me a sea view room. The room had a small window overlooking the sea otherwise it was dark. Not as advertised!

We spent 4 glorious nights here and had one of the most amazing trips of our lives. It's luxury, but laid back. You cannot beat the view. It has an unadulterated view of the sea and also a lovely view of the lighthouse. The restaurant served the best Sashimi I think I have ever had & I've been to Japan twice. Lovely cocktails & attentive staff. Couldn't recommend enough. Pay the extra for a sea view room.

The location was wonderful, though not suitable for young children. The pool and sun beds had magnificent views of rocks and sea. My adult daughter and I fell asleep to the sound of the sea splashing on rocks. We ate breakfast overlooking the Atlantic. It was peaceful and very relaxing. The beds were comfortable, the sheets/towels clean and fresh. The air conditioning good. The town( Cascais) was within easy walking distance and the train to Lisbon was cheap and ticket purchase fairly easy to negotiate. Almost everyone spoke English. It became a battle to get a hot drink served at breakfast. There was a coffee machine, which the staff obviously expected you to use- not good if you wanted a jug of hot water for tea or hot milk for a cafe au lait. The buffet was never explained to us- we were left to our own devices. Staff were quite aggressive when asking for our room number. One waitress was downright rude.We asked for hot water and hot milk, but nothing appeared-it all had to be chased up and we waited 15 minutes. It finally arrived with ill grace. We complained and had profuse apologies from the management, but it did mar the holiday. Surely it is not too much to ask for some service when you are paying almost 300 Euros per room? We had no free water. Still and sparkling ought to be provided in the room every night. Everything had to be paid for. Two apples stayed in the room all week. Silly things really, but important. Oh, and I asked for a twin bedded room(on booking.com. and in an email to the hotel), but we got a double bed. It was changed, but it was irritating.

Fab setting on rocks, sound of sea, breakfast on terrace, passionfruit mohitos, raspberry sangria, friendly staff, little garden terrace. Short walk into town. Very relaxing hol. Bathroom too small - nowhere to hang towels or put toiletries, shower oldfashioned & unreliable. No rails or sidegrips on pool. 5 star prices but without 5 star amenities.
