monotonous continuous music though soft. Tired of hearing 'Fuer Elise'.

location if you like shopping + very professional head of front office. When I left the usual tip for the lady who makes up the room ,she left me a thank-you note !

we made the mistake of believing that you could walk from the station with luagage , it is 15 minutes of which 10 minutes steep uphill! The hotel has some style in the lobby/bar/restaurant. Unfortunately You don't sleep there . The rooms are more hostel than hotel . The suites are ok. The front office staff is uninformed ( reception/ young people ) to very rude ( breakfast )

Extremely noisy room on front of hotel - disturbed until very late at night. Room desperately in need of TLC - everything creaked, the taps were loose and plug didn't hold water in sink. Very aggressive and persistent beggars outside were intimidating and frightening - would have been scary for women alone. breakfast coffee left in an urn was stewed and horrid. Charge for wifi - nowadays travellers want 24hour access for free. It is not an expensive hotel - a few pounds on the room price and free access would be easy

Really cool hotel with an awesome lobby/bar area on a prime shopping street. Pictures probably don't even do it justice. For the price, I don't think you can do better in Porto.

Room is really small, which didn't matter much to us. Also, thought the staff wasn't overly helpful and their restaurant recommendations were way off (which probably means they have connections to certain restaurants).

Breakfast was so-so.

The hotel is on the main shopping street, very close to all attractions in Porto. The hotel has some historical appeal - The library and bar areas are very olde worlde, and feature photos of famous people (including the English Royal family) who have presumably stayed at the hotel. The Dining room is very grand (from the early 20th century?) and has real atmosphere. Breakfasts are great - excellent food and plenty of variety. Lunch and dinner are also served, which can be handy in some cases. There is a lovely terrace on the roof, with pleasant views over the rooftops of Porto. It's nice to take a wine up there late in the day.

Although the room was advertised as having air-conditioning, this turned out to be not the case. There was something that looked like an airconditioner in the room, but it blew hot air when the ambient room temperature was about 30 degrees, independent of the temperature setting. The reception explained that all rooms were fed with the same hot or cold air (a central heating/cooling system I guess), and that it hadn't yet been switched from hot to cool (even though it was late spring!). This is not air conditioning, and I consider this to be false advertising. Booking.com should do something about this, as I'm sure it does not want to be associated with false advertising!

Loved the location, room extraordinaire(Manuel Oliviera), food was great.

poor, even boring breakfast. We have paid less in the past at other hotels and received a much better meal

The design of the hotel, and the history behind it!

Staff was totally lacking manners and quite rough! Was given wrong advice on listening to fado music, ended up in a circus like show!

The history of past guests on the wall. The old world lounge areas reminiscent of days past. I loved the photos on the walls of celebrities and royalty. The breakfast was very good.

Elegant-quiet.in the mode of portugal of yesteryear. A charming eperience.

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful in everyway.. The room was a good size and very comfortable. The bathroom was modern and very large with marble walls and floor and a great deep tub.

The breakfst buffet was OK but could be more varied and interesting. Paying for and using the WiFi was complicated and time consuming for me and the reception staff. Most three star hotels have free and simple WiFi. For the nightly rate this hotel should have free Wi Fi.

I liked everything about the hotel. It's service , accomidations, and location.

good location comfortable good value for dinner and wine although rolls with meal cost 1.50 euro each.

breakfast was just adequate rooms spacious but sparten needing a women´s touch.

The original public areas on the ground level have a historical significance, and represent the value of an old but fine building. Also being on the main shopping/leisure street was a big plus.

The guest rooms were horrible from the design standpoint, no harmony to anything, lighting was terrible for any purpose, and the biggest disadvantage to the hotel is the view from the guestrooms. There is a statement that the guest rooms were refurbished in 2003, cannot envision any improvement or better facilities

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean.

Our room was clean but very small and we were there for three days. The price was adequate and had it not been busy we would have gladly paid for an upgrade. My WiFi certainly didnt work in the room either.

The only thing I found was the staff were a bit rude, and as we were there for Easter Sunday was asked if they knew of any restaurants etc open and they just said everything would be closed! Of course we didnt find this to be the case but I was disappointed they didnt respond in a useful and helpful manner.

very friendly staff ! we were there for a 10 years marriage weekend and we told that against the reception ...the same evening there was champagne on the room for free !!

the music by the breakfast

Front desk staff was excellent: Diana and Christina, and the evening staff (female) when we checked in on 23-24 March (late after 2330) can't remember her name...outstanding service from all three women. She recommended the Italian restaurant down the street which was excellent.
