Very good breakfast and great variety in a nice ambience. Rooms clean enough. Helpful staff. Close enough to the center. Very small and stuffy room. The photos on the internet are much better than in reality. There is only one nice room in the whole hotel from what we were told and that is the one you see online. Until a few months ago it was a 1 star hotel and you can probably still see it even though it has been upgraded to a 3 star. The street the hotel is on is a very noisy and busy at night there are sketchy people around. we didin't feel very safe.

hot breakfast waking up to a room infested by ants and an unsympathetic staff! (they were in my bed, on me, in my suitcase, everything... there was a steady stream of them appearing from under the fridge and disappearing under the armoir... staff did nothing to help me out and didn't offer anything in terms of a discount of a replacement room to shower in (I was checking out a few hours later anyway) gross! My room was immediately off the lobby and loud at night. It's not exactly a savory part of town come nightfall and there was a steady stream of visitors and women arguing both inside and outside the lobby.

Excellent value for money including free parking (a rarity in Porto) and breakfast, plus free WiFi. Room was well equipped and not small as expected. Noisy being on the street front but not an issue for us. Very helpful reception staff and bar staff.

Our room was fantastic, comfortable and we requested a room at the back, so we had absolutely no external noise. The hotel owner was so friendly, offered us a coffee on our arrival as we waited for the room to be ready, and moved us in as soon as he could (even though we were a bit early for check in). The breakfast was fantastic, had a great selection of pastries, and we thought that for the price, we could not have gotten much better :) The location. It is a bit far from the city centre (about 15-20mins on foot) which is pretty far when you have no car and want to visit the sights, however it was still not a bad walk, and although it is at the start of a sort of dodgy neighbourhood we were very close to the shopping strip, and there are always lots of ppl around, so we felt fine getting to and from the hotel.

Buffet breakfast was of excellent standard. Room was basic but clean and of acceptable standard. We were at the back of the hotel & found it quiet, however, other members of family had three rooms at the front of the hotel and did not sleep all night due to screeching of car tyres and people shouting throughout the night on the road infront of the hotel. *** Would only recommend this hotel on the previso that a room at the rear is booked.*****

Location was good, but still a good walk to the main historical attractions of the city. Very nice and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. No complaints at all. Minor note, the bathroom is very small and the beds are for very short people only.

An excellent location, uphill on the famous shopping street. The staff spoke excellent English, and was both helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean, and the buffet breakfast, and bar for after hours. There is a working elevator. WiFi is free and a good speed in the breakfast room (unfortunately not available in our room). A definite 3 star+ for 2 star price.

The rooms had a very nice design, the breakfast room was nice and pleasant, the free parking. Porto is a hilly place, and Hotel America is on the top of Rua Santa Catarina. If you have health problems and you only want to walk, or if you have luggage and no car, I do not recommend it. One possibility to reach the hotel, though, is to take the metro to Pombal Square and come down from there

The hotel is quite well positioned. But the room was very small. We travelled with our teenage children and booked a family room. When we entered with our luggage we barely had place to move.We had a rent-a- car, but the garage is very narrow and our car got scratched. The hotel manager was not very helpul.

Good comfortable room - a friend and I had a superior twin - 2 double beds, air conditioning, black out shutters, TV, spacious room. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and gave information about the area. 5 minute walk to Metro or 1--15 minute walk to river area.
