The vip (called the "Veep" by locals) is located at the top of the hill, so essentially you really have a view of Ponta Delgada and the ocean and the background. It was really nice waking up to seeing the sun and the ocean every morning. The breakfast buffet is pretty good - there are assortments of breads, spreads, sweets, cereals, yogurts, meats and fruit. There are even eggs and beans that are okay - although I ate the eggs every morning, they were a brighter orangey-yellow colour that I wasn't used to. The buffet staff is pretty quick to ensure that the food is well stocked and that the tables are promptly cleared. The cleaning ladies were really sweet and attentive - I didn't have an iron and one of the promptly brought me one to borrow for a few days. The front staff was nice too and pretty fluent in English - when I arrived to check in, she started speaking Portuguese, and prompted switched to English. The room has no coffee machine but it has a small fridge. The triple room we booked had two TVs (not flat screen though). There was also a balcony with a table and three chairs, so it was nice to sit there sometimes and enjoy the sun. There was a good-sized desk that I was able to work on and lay out my work. In terms of walking distance, the hotel is farther up than all the other ones I saw, but for me, a 15 minute walk to the city centre is totally worth the view from the window. If I go back to Ponta Delgada, I'd stay here again. There were a few inconveniences that did irk me. For instance, there is only one computer with free internet in the lobby, and it was annoying to have to wait. For wi-fi, it costs 3 euros an hour (or 10 for 24 hours or something like that - the rates are posted in the lobby) and you have to get an access code to get online. I had to print my conference paper and I had to ask the staff to put the usb into the computer behind the counter so that I could open it from the free computer and e-mail it to them to print. That was really annoying for me. I didn't use the pool, which is free of charge, but I did use the gym and had to pay 7 euros for every time I used it. It has a few treadmills (with working fans on them!), some step machines, an assortment of weight machines, a smith machine, benches, mats, and free weights as well as plates. While I did like that the gym was much more complete than any other I have seen in a hotel, it was annoying to pay so much to use it. Sometimes I just ended up exercising in the hotel room or just running outside. But if you are not looking for a gym or printing, these things won't be a big deal.

The drinks in the minibar are very cheap (but maybe this is valid for the whole of Portugal). Nice balcony.

I thought this was an excellent hotel. They were very gracious, friendly, and proaafessional. I would give the hotel a score of 95% out of 100%. Their restaurant is also excellent. The only reason I did not give them a perfect score is I feel that such a fine hotel should have a better swimming pool and the pool they have is quite small. An excellent hotel and the Vip in Saldanha in Lisbon is almost as good.

Great location, service and clean. I just wished that the hallway areas had more of an air flow to prevent the odor from the carpet caused by the humidity.

The view I had from my room was amazing, I was in room 713 where I could just sit on my bed and see the ocean.very spacious room, very nice ambience, really friendly helpful staff, and a great breakfast too! The only thing that the hotel could have done better is to invest in the pillows which are really uncomfortable and in the mattresses which are a bit uncomfortably hard. So if they add memory foam covers at least to their existing mattresses that would be worth. And when the cleaning was taking place I was not given new shampoo/bath gel every day.

My room was quiet and comfortable - on the seventh floor. The best thing for me, as a somewhat weary traveller, was the excellent dinner - not only the food but the service. The desserts on the Azores are on the indulgent side. The surroundings of the hotel, and Ponta Delgada as a city, are not really attractive holiday destinations - though very convenient for air links to the rest of the world and to other Azores islands.

Staff help. I did not appreciate that the internet was extremely slow and difficult to connect to every time. I finally went to the front desk and was connected. I was told not to close their home page. (??? Something could have been lost in translation and I miss understood.) However I was told that I could purchase two hours of internet for 5 euro and upon check out I discovered that the vat (tax??) was 16 euro. That I did not appreciate. Use of the internet was a total waste of money and time. Use the free internet connection in the lobby.

Nice and big room, quiet. The breakfast is medium standard, we missed som vegetables as tomatoes and cucumber. There is not much to eat if you`r a vegetarian. The staff in the weekends was not so polite, took away our plate before we had been able to eat up our food. :(

The location is not that bad as most reviews suggested, as most people travelling in açores would rent a car. It cost us 9 euros from the airport to get to the hotel and 7 euros from the hotel to the ferry port. There is little difference in price between this four-star one and another 3-star we stayed in the city center. Honestly, this hotel was truly money for value. Because of the early departure, the staff started breakfast a lot earlier for us. Appreciate it.
